Is saying that HD is in it again a spoiler?

NopeNi · 27/03/2019 12:22

Bit dramatic about "spoilers" Confused

For all we know those are just flashbacks or imagination moments of those people anyway.

ThanksItHasPockets · 27/03/2019 12:26

I'd prefer not to know the guest casting for the forthcoming episodes. I enjoyed last week's all the more for Kristin Scott-Thomas's appearance being unexpected. No flouncing here, however - if the consensus is to allow discussion of future casting then I'll temporarily hide the thread and rejoin you all later.

WarmCoffee · 27/03/2019 12:35

Love love love Fleabag, especially this series. I'm watching the newest episode again straight away, because it deserves a second viewing.

I agree with PP that Hot Priest has past issues with sex. However I think it's to do with his brother - remember in episode 1 at the dinner party he said his brother is a paedophile? I imagine that's why he's not close to his parents too - maybe they still support the brother and he doesn't agree?

Could it be possible that's why he turned to priesthood/faith - disgusted by the actions of his brother and his family, and he was happy to abstain from sex because he has seen how it can be a cause of pure evil? Might be something in it. I doubt anything is a throwaway comment with PW-Bs writing, so I'm sure his brother will be mentioned again.

Happily, I think if he did turn to priesthood because of his brothers crimes and his subsequent falling out with his family, then if he resolves this and comes to term with the fact it's not his fault and he doesn't have to punish himself for it (etc), he may leave the priesthood and, like a previous poster said, become a Quaker and live happily ever after with Fleabag.

@travelledtheworld, thank you for your helpful reply.

Dontloseyourhead · 27/03/2019 12:41

We can only hope warmcoffee, or even that they remain friends, I was happy in episode 3 when I thought they were going to stay as platonic friends as a non exploitative male in her life is exactly what she needs!

NopeNi · 27/03/2019 12:43

Come to think of it, almost every scene shows him drinking, and his parents were both alcoholics, so I think it's more likely to be alcoholism.

howmanybiscuits · 27/03/2019 12:47

People saying she went to church to pray not to seduce the priest, I don't agree. She has said many times she doesn't believe in God she only goes to the church to hang out with the priest and is desperate to get it on with him, 'gorgeous neck' etc

He'd irritated her by being too pushy about getting her to open up to him. And she'd then spent all day thinking about her dead mother and best friend. She went to the church after she thought he'd be in bed and doesn't seem him out- she spends time on her own, until he gets in the way of her peace. Literally with his music and figuratively with his focus on sex - which, for once isn't her's.

It makes his betrayal of her worse.

PresidentHump · 27/03/2019 12:53

@warmcoffee i read that in the original script he was going to say his brother was a 'cunt' but the BBC asked for it to be charged. So it was changed to paedo . So perhaps not that important to the story

PresidentHump · 27/03/2019 13:21

Cast stuff is a big spoiler for me. Sorry I flounced though. Clearly didn't mean it. But do much prefer it when future stuff isn't spoken about persinally

Connieston · 27/03/2019 13:29

It's really hard to find actual spoilers for this season, believe me I've tried to find them! Most of what's going on here is just unpicking the details and guessing so the last episodes are bound to be surprising regardless. Given the flash backs are so much a part of it even a familiar name on the cast list doesn't mean they're going to be doing owt interesting. It's maddening Grin

howmanybiscuits · 27/03/2019 13:33

PresidentHump I'd guessed that Hugh Dennis might be back because I rewatched episode 1 and he's in the flashbacks, which usually means there's some relevance to the upcoming story.

I don't think it tells us anything about the storyline though!

There's going to be a wedding, so that's an opportunity to get loads of characters old and new on screen, for PWB to write surprising / disastrous / farcical / redeeming interactions between them.

Hugh Dennis and the Priest on screen together could make for some great TV, for example. Doesn't mean Fleabag and him get together.

And anyway, surely the Hugh Dennis character won't come in as a white knight to "rescue" Fleabag - it's not that kind of story!

I think I might have worked out what the Priest's past is about btw, from rewatching and seeing possible hints - but I'm not saying as I don't want to spoil it! And if I am right, I don't want anyone to conform or solidify it as I want to enjoy the element of surprise!

Hurry up Monday!

howmanybiscuits · 27/03/2019 13:37

Oh, what's going to happen about Clare's husband wanting to press charges on Fleabag I wonder?

RosaWaiting · 27/03/2019 13:40

maybe Hot Priest will run off with godmother Grin

whatwouldkatyactuallydonext · 27/03/2019 13:41

Did anyone notice in the first episode in the restaurant fleabag said something like "are you sure you're a real priest?" and he replied "yes" but in a really peculiar way - like being caught out in a lie perhaps, or maybe more innocently, feeling a bit of a fraud.

howmanybiscuits · 27/03/2019 13:42

maybe Hot Priest will run off with godmother

OMG no!! I'm still hoping he's redeemable as a friend! That would be just awful!

Clare's dick head husband, on the other hand...

RosaWaiting · 27/03/2019 13:44

Katy yes, def noticed that.

howmanybiscuits · 27/03/2019 13:44

Like imposter syndrome?

And, when Fleabag find him playing music in the last episode, it's playing don't be fooled by these rocks that I got, I'm still Jenny from the block

Under his priest's frocks, he's still the same man he always was.

whatwouldkatyactuallydonext · 27/03/2019 13:48

I also felt it was quite abusive to tell her to kneel and then open the curtain to her at her most vulnerable. It felt almost like he was getting off on the power of having her kneel before him - seeing himself in the god role maybe and she's kneeling to worship him...?

Sorry, random thoughts- no one else I know watches it!

RosaWaiting · 27/03/2019 13:49

oh I just stumbled on this

www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/london-life/fleabag-priest-andrew-scott-phoebe-wallerbridge-a4102166.html

I wonder if Andrew is prepared for the same crazy following he got as Moriarty? I've almost forgotten he was Moriarty because I saw him on stage a few times and that's obviously way more time to watch him be amazing. His screen time is relatively short in Sherlock - but of course, take the screen presence and you don't even realise that.

RosaWaiting · 27/03/2019 13:50

Katy yes that's what I said!! It's about power.

thedevilinablackdress · 27/03/2019 13:53

Don't know if anyone's mentioned it but I believe you often kneel as part of confession? So that's what I thought (well, after a bit...)

CookieSwirlC · 27/03/2019 13:58

I love love love this show, I’ve binge watched series 1 and I’m now up to date on S2 as well over the last 2 days. Does it appear on IPlayer on mondays?

I love FB and HP together. I’m going to rewatch that episode again tonight I think. I also think he meant for her to kneel down and he was coming to pray with her/absolve her of her sins but was overcome when he saw her and couldn’t help himself.

BertrandRussell · 27/03/2019 13:58

Priest is a bastard. No question.

EBearhug · 27/03/2019 13:59

I am sure he meant Neil not kneel.

Hard of hearing subtitles said kneel. Though they are not always wonderfully accurate, they're a lot better for pre-recorded programmes than live.
