And with Andrew Scott,
he is great
as is Olivia Colman

Loving this series - more so than the first. Isn’t the point that they’re both lost and he’s turned to God and she’s still looking for what will fix her?
I do hope they both find it in each other but agree we know nothing about why he’s so broken.

I was upset about his confessional misuse - i’m hoping it was Neil, as that’d be a better outcome than another priest abusing his position and taking advantage of someone vulnerable. Two lost and vulnerable people finding their way out though is perhaps too optimistic for fleabag!

Colman after the funeral - just amazing. The whole series would be worth it just for that character!

Tootrousers · 26/03/2019 16:59

Also when he said don’t call
Him father that suggests she doesn’t normally? Anyway we’ll find out soon hopefully, I love this programme so much

RosaWaiting · 26/03/2019 17:05

biscuits

"When he says "Fuck you calling me Father like it doesn't turn you on", she gives him a hard stare. She doesn't share it with us at all."

I think there are some scenes that simply cannot be interrupted and that was one of them. As it was, it was brilliant!

KneelJustKneel · 26/03/2019 17:07

Oh wow! That was an incredible episode.

Namechange for obvious reasons - my ex became a priest so much conflict in my heas. At the time as above anger at his abuse of trust, which I still feel. But but... I can relate to her desire to have someo ne else make the decisions (almost a D/s pull) and it was there just before when he commandes her to stand stil in the vesitry and she didn't move. I'm both aroused by the authority thing ..... and shocked at his abuse of it! But such a hot kiss. Sigh. Dont get to see those these days :(

Interested to see where it goes. I found she went to a catholic independent school which would explain her knowledge of church life!

Connieston · 26/03/2019 17:09

The more I think about it the more I think it was actually KNEEL. Just because rrrrrrrrrr.

Are we going to run a sweepstake on our theories Grin No I have no idea how betting odds work Grin

It's Neil not KNEEL 2/1
It's KNEEL not Neil 5/4
They won't shag 10/1
Step mother unmasked horribly 5/4
Claire finds true happiness and unclenches her buttocks 100/1
Absolutely mind-blowing twist at the end 5/1
Not that much of a mindblowing twist but Fleabag finds peace 4/1
Not that much of a mindblowing twist but Fleabag is still Fleabag 10/1

RosaWaiting · 26/03/2019 17:12

It never occurred to me for a second that it was anything other than "kneel".

it was to make her more vulnerable.

It was only when I looked on Twitter that the possibility of Neil entered my head.

Dontloseyourhead · 26/03/2019 17:21

It never occurred to me at the time it wasn’t kneel, and it was uncomfortable as it didn’t quite make sense - I’ve not seen anything before that made me think he wanted to subjugate her or needed to, she freely offered to sleep with him/made her intentions clear previously when they were drinking in the garden.

So maybe it is something to do with his past treatment of women and the line about needing to move ‘people’ as a father is telling - maybe they’ve both got a dysfunctional relationship with sex?

Dontloseyourhead · 26/03/2019 17:22

love people as a father, not move obviously

Goatrider · 26/03/2019 17:22

I need (knead? Wink ) to watch it again!

Given how the 1st series ended, I'm confident there's going to be a neat and possibly surprising end to this one.

Dontloseyourhead · 26/03/2019 17:24

Oh yes, it clearly bears further, ahem, analysis!
How clever is PWB?

Connieston · 26/03/2019 17:28

Maybe we discover Boo turns out to have done something awful to Fleabag. That would redress the "balance" somehow. I mean something in the past. That might explain the dark look Boo gave Fleabag when she shook her head in the cafe with the priest.

Dontloseyourhead · 26/03/2019 17:32

Boo controlling her now could also be a sign that she’s descending further into mental health issues?

Connieston · 26/03/2019 17:33

...maybe why she ran away from the camera.

CountFosco · 26/03/2019 19:29

Also pretty sure he didn't break fourth wall.

Just watched it again and I think you might be right. In the cafe FB looks at us behind him so he looks around to see what she's looking at then says 'argh' which could be to us and could be to her.

I'm so confused and am going to binge watch once the last one is out so that I can understand it.

RosaWaiting · 26/03/2019 19:37

Dontloseyourhead "I’ve not seen anything before that made me think he wanted to subjugate her or needed to, she freely offered to sleep with him/made her intentions clear previously when they were drinking in the garden."

but that would be her in control....not what he wants I reckon.

nicecheese · 26/03/2019 19:40

Just watched it again. But the last bit upset me, I was hoping he wouldn't try and take advantage of her when she was vulnerable .

redpickle · 26/03/2019 20:31

Anyone else think it was Pam (the over zealous housemate/parishioner) who made the picture fall down?

There are so many subtleties in the script, definitely worth watching again.

BubbleandSqueeeek · 26/03/2019 21:20

My take on it is as follows: it was kneel. It was reflecting the fact that she came to pray in the first place, and she was kneeling when about to do so. He asked her to pray for him when they were in the vestry, and this was an extension of that. He wasn't about to abuse her, was just a continuation of the religious theme and them playing at Catholic confession.

He is a troubled soul from a damaged family and has put his past in a box - rather like Fleabag - to start a new life of abstinence and religion. Then he meets a mirror of himself, someone who gets him, and his faith is now challenged. Hence the drinking. Hence the continual references to his temptation and their chemistry: castration to avoid sex, her being turned on by calling him father, her being in his thoughts, etc. He's battling with it, and losing.

I think he's going to bottle it and move parishes. Sadly.

I literally discovered Fleabag last week, and it's the best thing I've seen in ages. I've binge watched up to the current episode and I'm gutted to read this is the last series. PWB has written a superb cast of characters that have great depth, and to captivate an audience with a relationship with so much chemistry in just 22 min episodes is a huge feat. Hot Priest has completely been in my thoughts all day, his mix of intelligence, vulnerability and quirkiness reminds me of David Tennant's Doctor Who, who I also loved. And total girl crush on Fleabag too.

covetingthepreciousthings · 26/03/2019 21:26

I've just watched the last scene with subtitles on, incase anyone is interested it comes up as 'kneel'

Crabbitstick · 26/03/2019 21:30

I assumed he was going to pray with her until he saw her kneeling and then he was conflicted and acted on his desires. I will be sooooooo disappointed if he doesn’t turn out to be a ‘good’ guy. But I think one of the great thinks about this program is no-one is good or bad, they’re all complex as humans are. Apart from Claire’s husband who is a massive dick.

Tootrousers · 26/03/2019 21:32

Agreed that they are all complex and a mixture of bad and good. That’s what makes the series so good

Figgygal · 26/03/2019 21:42

OMG that was intense
Love it

howmanybiscuits · 26/03/2019 21:52

What was the significance of the Quaker meeting? What were they doing there?

Is it usual for a Catholic Priest to attend Quaker meetings?

Tootrousers · 26/03/2019 22:02

I just took the Quaker mtg to be an example of priest’s spirituality and enjoying peace and contemplation. And for fleabag it seemed like the start of her opening herself up a spirituality she’d never experienced before

howmanybiscuits · 26/03/2019 22:09

Perhaps - but why a Quaker meeting? Why not an experience within his own church.

I don't know much about religion, and it suddenly occurred to me - hang on, he's not a Quaker, he's a Catholic priest! What's he doing at the Quakers?

I bet is has some kind of significance, but no idea what!
