Did anyone else get a bit excited for the trailer for that?

Also now we have Silent Witness and LoD in the Horizom I may never leave the house.

Niels leaving was a bit strange.

So you have a million euros in your car and a car pulls out in front of you and as a seasoned cop you aren't suspicious and get out of your car? yeah. Baptiste really "is not the man he used to be". Also, Baptiste had bags of room he could have driven round the girls car.

I felt like laughing when the TGW revealed herself, as if. I clocked she was TG a few seconds after she first appeared on screen. Watching it I could only think of the IT episode when Douglas's girlfriend tells him on a noisy restaraunt that she "used to be a man" and he mishears and thinks she said "I'm from Iran" and shrugs but when he finds out the truth has a big fisticuffs with her.

I think Stratton might be going to use the money to pay the ransom/fee for Christine (?) Anne Marie's sister who is being held (By another gang?)

I had a feeling this programme was going to be rubbish.
Given up.

They seem to be chunking aspects of the story.

I think Niels will turn out to be a baddie (my initial gut reaction when we first met him).

How come Baptiste hasn't yet told his wife about Niels?

Thought the window cleaner guy had the girls locked up in his house - who was he passing through the bag of cheese puffs to at the beginning?

I think it's only Edward Stratton's unpredictability (and Tom Hollander's acting) that's keeping me interested.

I guess Julien's assertion that "he is not the man he used to be" is key to explaining the plot weaknesses and driving forward the story. Maybe the Williams brothers were running out of plot development ideas and a few Baptiste blunders helped to push it to six episodes.

Maybe Kim's loving relationship with her man wasn't traditionally sexual (clutching at straws, I know).

AvonCallingBarksdale · 11/03/2019 12:03

How disappointing this is turning out to be. Not a patch on Missing, especially the second series. Jessica Raine is terrible and, much as it pains me to say it, Baptiste is definitely not the man he was

Ilovetea33 · 11/03/2019 12:15

Where did Stratton get the swimming trunks from? Surely the hotel personnel would have helpfully pointed out that it was a nude sauna?
I also got annoyed when he was writing on the beer mat and I had to pause the programme and get up close to the screen to see what was written. Not everybody has a huge TV.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/03/2019 12:22

Ilovetea33 yes I was a bit agog at all those nude people in the sauna and was fully expecting a nude rear shot of Edward Stratton as he walked away.

FoxSquadKitten · 11/03/2019 13:26

I'm sure in the beginning they said they hadn't been 'intimate' yet.
I'm just glad the dog is ok 😊

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/03/2019 13:39

I'm just glad that the dog is ok so far... Still two episodes to go. I suspect there will be another threat to Julien's family, although if they 'clock' that Niels is his son he may well be the collateral damage (otherwise why introduced him as a character?).

AngelinaNeurosurgeon · 11/03/2019 14:02

This series is to The Missing what Broadchurch S2 was to Broadchurch S1 Sad
Remembering how gripped I was and everyone who posted on here too when both series of the Missing was on.

RedForShort · 11/03/2019 14:03

Not going to lie, I'd never have thought Talisa Garcia (actress playing Kim) was a transwoman. She's no more masculine looking than some woman might be to my mind anyway.

If they haven't been intimate it makes more sense. Though how long ago was she supposed to have had the sex reassignment surgery? (Or has she?)

Mishappening · 11/03/2019 14:04

Tom Hollander is such a good actor.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/03/2019 14:27

I think she was supposed to have had the sex reassignment surgery 18 months beforehand.

Maybe Baptiste is a good supporting character rather than 'the main event'? Maybe it's that the overriding plot premise isn't as strong as in the two series of The Missing? The Williams Brothers series seem to vary rather in their reception?

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/03/2019 14:50

Maybe that’s why she kept saying no to the engagement ring /marriage

And they hadn’t had sex

So not hard /weird be didn’t know

Defenestrator · 11/03/2019 15:04

When I first saw her I thought 'transwoman' because of the amount of facial surgery and who the hell wears heels that high all the time. Then I thought I was being a bit unfair to an older woman who had had 'work' done and had attracted a younger man, but actually I was right first time.

RedForShort · 11/03/2019 16:19

Evidently I've no ability to spot facial surgery (I'd clock it if it were akin to Jocelyn Eisenstein!). Maybe I've the same unawareness as her Welsh lover!!

beanaseireann · 11/03/2019 17:45

I didn't spot she was transgender either Blush
I just thought she was a beautiful woman a la Barbara Bach or Talisa Soto.

Stickladylove88 · 11/03/2019 18:16

Wotsit man was all a bit convenient. I thought he might be stocking up for a no deal Brexit but even more implausibly he has his own cctv network which straightaway plays footage of the bloke who stole the money. Ever so slightly unlikely l, non?!

The80sweregreat · 11/03/2019 19:49

It has gone off track lately : Im getting bored I knew that Edward would do that though and I do think his son Niels is a baddie? Not sure why , but he seems dodgy.
I guess that the boyfriend of the trans women hasn't slept with her so he didn't realise? Hard to believe otherwise.

I don't care enough about any of them to be that bothered who is double crossing who though.

FoxSquadKitten · 11/03/2019 19:58

I didn't spot she was transgender either

Nope, nor me 🤷‍♀️

Gwenhwyfar · 11/03/2019 20:24

"Wotsit man was all a bit convenient. I thought he might be stocking up for a no deal Brexit but even more implausibly he has his own cctv network which straightaway plays footage of the bloke who stole the money. Ever so slightly unlikely l, non?!"

I thought he kept women as sex slaves in his basement and only gave them crisps to eat! Quite relieved to see those screens.

I guessed Kim was transgender because of the secret injections. Never guessed she was the big baddy though.

beanaseireann · 11/03/2019 20:35

Gwenhwyfar
I too thought the window cleaner was hiding the women in the cellar and feeding them Wotsits.
Glad I was wrong.
Isn't Amsterdam shown as being so seedy.
I visited a couple of months back but Baptiste has put me off going back.

RedForShort · 11/03/2019 20:47

Ah yes Gwenhwyfar figured it when the character was secretly injection. I'm referring to the posters who say they knew as soon as they saw her. I mean even though the character is transgender I would never have thought the actress is a trans woman. Not ever.

Don't detect any facial surgery either; she seems quite naturally attractive as far as I thought. Evidently I can only spot plastic surgery when it's botched!!!

AngelinaNeurosurgeon · 12/03/2019 06:39

I don't care enough about any of them to be that bothered who is double crossing who though.
Exactly Sad
And the only remaining mystery is where is Natalie’s sister and the other women? But that SL hasn’t progressed at all since the first episode, so I assume they’ll be conveniently discovered in the final episode.

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 12/03/2019 13:06

I didn't get that one Hmm

If the former brothel owner/hardman was so hard they were really scary to all these nasty Romanian gangs, are we really supposed to believe all that went when she started wearing makeup?

And in the same vein, are we really supposed to believe Baptiste was daft enough to not notice Niels and Stratton were dodgy nor his ex was constantly drunk? Him being a miraculously good detective and all?
