Can you believe we are on thread 50! This is for all discussions on the BBC series Our Girl and any possible future series. Reference to Captain James is particularly welcome.

I can't remember the last time I saw a doctor in a white coat.

Rhubarb01 · 24/01/2019 21:39

Donna is speaking to a woman who knows all about being bored and finding someone else because she's lonely. This is deja vu to Mrs Cadman.

Ilovelblue · 24/01/2019 21:40

Haha Rhu - so you've not been visited by the men in white coats??

Imagine being allowed to smoke by somebody's bedside these days!

Mrs Cadman comes into her own here helping Donna to look respectable again. She gives lots of advice about being an army wife, then Donna goes and ignores it all!

Rhubarb01 · 24/01/2019 21:40

Needless to say, Donna, tells Dave everything straight away.

Ilovelblue · 24/01/2019 21:41

Do we assume Major and Mrs Cadman have put aside their differences and indiscretions?

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 24/01/2019 21:41

There's a few people who probably reckon I do need a visit from the men in the white coats ilove Grin

Ilovelblue · 24/01/2019 21:43

It makes me laugh to see Lt Pascoe as the barman. He does have a lovely voice.

Don't call us Paddy....

Rhubarb01 · 24/01/2019 21:45

I'd like to know where Paddy got the bra from at short notice.

Ilovelblue · 24/01/2019 21:45

What a childish lot.

eejittwo · 24/01/2019 21:47

There are some nice touches in that episode, and remember I’m seeing it all for the first time.

Rhubarb01 · 24/01/2019 21:48

Ah, this is sweet with Paddy and Nancy.

Ilovelblue · 24/01/2019 21:48

It's like a trip down memory lane back to the 90s isn't it eejit?

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 24/01/2019 21:50

It's sad to see the way this has driven a wedge between members of the same family.

eejittwo · 24/01/2019 21:54

And to think the same thing would have happened ten years later, over Iraq.

Ilovelblue · 24/01/2019 21:56

Same time, same place everyone for episode 4 (which is definitely my least favourite so far).

I've just ordered series 3 from eBay - it's quite addictive.

Going back to OG, do we think BA doesn't want to be associated with his character any longer. Did we not read somewhere that this Georgie/CJ love interest was not the way he had played CJ up until then and we deduced he didn't agree with the direction the storyline went?

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 24/01/2019 22:08

I read it that way ilove. He definitely said something about not having played the character that way. I think it would be far better if he doesn't do any more. I still want a tying up of CJ's story, even if it is just something off screen, but I honestly think the best way to finish this whole thing off is to show Georgie going off to do something admirable and uplifting. Actually, the ending of series 2 when she went to work at the refugee camp felt like that.

Ilovelblue · 24/01/2019 22:40

I guess time will tell and it depends who is available at the time of filming. Definitely some of the section need to be promoted. If Georgie has been promoted, then Brains and Fingers deserve it too, more so really! Whatever the script, do we think SF will be involved again?

OP posts:
eejittwo · 24/01/2019 23:14

Yay to Spanner and Peanut.
BTW, won't be able to make next week, as I have another appointment at that time. Will certainly watch the episode and read your comments later.

Rhubarb01 · 24/01/2019 23:17

I reckon SF will be involved. If they're going to Afghanistan again, then I can't see them not turning up. I liked the new SF 'Boss' in the last episodes - he added something to proceedings.

I always thought Brains had potential, until that episode about his parents' divorce and needing a word from Georgie to help him sort his head out. Sorry, but I've always thought Fingers was a bit thick, but I suppose he's been there long enough to make lance corporal at least. I wonder if Ruby will appear again. He was a nice lad.

eejittwo · 25/01/2019 07:12

Oh, that Brains stuff about the divorce - it was part of the bad dream that was Bangladesh and I always thought it had been chucked in (like Ruby's snog), just to show off Georgie's caring (interfering?) side by that ex-soap producer female. About the only decent storyline in Bangladesh was Rab and Maisie.

kazzaD66 · 25/01/2019 11:05

ilove rhu Reading the BA interview, I got the feeling he might not have been too impressed with the way the storyline went, if only because it made the character he was playing (and therefore himself as an actor) look a bit daft and not very believable - because he was playing CJ a different way, with different emotions.
I don't see how he can film OG anyway, given he is filming Pennyworth at the same time - and he can hardly nip between roles when there is a gap in filming (as he did with OG and Fleabag) - not with that moustache Grin Also, I would have thought that the BBC would have announced if BA was coming back. He is the second lead role.
As I said the other day, the rate Lane is getting promoted seems to be ridiculous, esp given the cockups she's been the cause of involved in Hmm
Others deserve promotion! And,if she is now a sergeant, where does that leave Kingy? Is he not returning? It doesn't really matter anyway, she'd run the whole show anyway, even if a Brigadier was there! Wink
I need to stop being so involved in this...!!Grin

Magi84 · 25/01/2019 12:48

It's amazing really just how involved we all are in all things OG. As Kazza says GL being promoted to sergeant so quickly is a bit much to put it mildly. Agree BA seems to have been less than enchanted with how things ended in the last series. I always get a bit nostalgic and stuck on the thought 'if only Lacey Turner hadn't decided to return to Eastenders what kind of stories would we have got, and how many series also.

Am still enjoying Soldier Soldier but must admit that in the later series (I'm on No. 6) they too go a bit adrift and you can see changes of direction in storylines that seem to be there to 'spice' things up so to speak - probably to keep up with what they think are more modern trends. One or two of which stretch credibility just as we found in OG! Sticking with it though.

Bonniefoible · 25/01/2019 19:08

I remembered another Soldier Soldier similar programme the other day: Red Caps. Drama about British Military Police. Maybe when you all run it out of episodes you could try that. Smile

Magi84 · 25/01/2019 20:00

Bonnie I remember Red Caps and was really enjoying it when I remember it came to a somewhat abrupt end. Actually before we started Soldier Soldier I looked into the idea of Red Caps but apparently it never went to DVD so I am not sure if there is a way to get it. I am watching Soldier Soldier on the UK TV app but no sign of Red Caps on their menu list. Any ideas?
