Can you believe we are on thread 50! This is for all discussions on the BBC series Our Girl and any possible future series. Reference to Captain James is particularly welcome.

Evening everyone!

I expect you've all seen it, but just a reminder that Our Girl has been short-list nominated in two categories for the National Television Awards tomorrow - voting is still open. I have to admit that out of sheer nostalgic loyalty I did vote for both OG and MK Blush. In fairness to MK, I do think she's a good actress and there were times in the last series when she showed real grit. I'd like to see her do something really hard-hitting. No doubt she will rock up tomorrow looking sensational in a fab dress and good luck to her. However, I think she'll be hard pressed to beat Richard Madden in the best actor category. I am grateful that Bodyguard was in a separate category so I could vote for it with a clear conscience.

I may actually watch the NTA's tomorrow (I don't normally bother with award ceremonies as I find them a bit dull) but it might be interesting to see who's there from the OG. cast I'm not sure if it will hold any sway with the BBC over any more series, but it must be nice for TG to have the public acknowledge how much they've enjoyed all the series in general even if, like us, they've had a fair few quibbles with it over the years.

Wot? No nomination for CJ for being impaled?

Ilovelblue · 22/01/2019 07:55

Morning ladies. Re your comments Rhu, I've just seen this.....

Thanks for your two links eejit by the way. I did respond but never checked to see if it appeared so not sure what happened there. Definitely no sign of my local cinemas showing the Gandhi film so far. :(

Must say that having re-read that article and seeing Georgie has been promoted again, you would hope that if any of the other long serving members of Two Section are going to be in this series, then they too will have been promoted - Fingers and Brains particularly.

Not sure how I feel now a fourth series has been confirmed.

Rhubarb01 · 22/01/2019 09:10

Thanks ilove. From a very quick perusal of the article, my first reaction was that she's probably not with CJ! The jump forward in time suggests other things gave been resolved by the start. No word on BA so he may not be doing this? If not, please TG, tell us at some point that he got help and went back to Molly. I could live with that and watch series 4 with reasonable detachment.

Bonniefoible · 22/01/2019 10:04

My response to this is ‘meah’. As in the dismissive noise or the meaning of this emoticon ==> Hmm. I’ve just no investment in the Georgie journey, never had. I was so invested in the first series that I kept watching but the last series killed that off. If there’s no CJ or a continuing CJ Georgie love-in I’m totally out. In fact I’ll probably be behind the sofa with wine sulking.

I would have watched for CJ’s recovery journey but if it’s jumping one year ahead I guess we’re going to miss out on that.

So meah or Hmm about covers it. Wink

Rhubarb01 · 22/01/2019 10:16

I think the emphasis on Elvis in the article suggests this series is all about her and her struggle and CJ is out of it and probably the army. If two serious leg wounds didn't do for him then maybe that cliff jump did. In my opinion, the swiftest and most conciliatory way of ending the entire CJ episode is to showGeorgie scrolling through Facebook and seeing a photo of a smiling CJ and Molly with obvious baby bump! Amazing what a bit of photoshop can do. Story over and let's move on!

Bonniefoible · 22/01/2019 10:17

There is another article about it: Here

Magi84 · 22/01/2019 10:35

I second all your suggestions for how the story should go RHU and probably like Bonnefoi will be behind the settee with only one eye on proceedings until I hear some positive vibes re a CJ/MD fix! Surely in six episodes some kind of reminiscing could bring the subject up.

As mentioned both articles seem to emphasise her feelings about Elvis and also the fact she's back in Manchester with her family and that raises my hopes a little also.

kazzaD66 · 22/01/2019 12:26

I have mixed feelings about another series. I was rather hoping it was finished but now I may have to watch record then fast forward through it to get the gist Hmm I only continued with the last series because of BA Grin
As has been said already, I'm reading between the lines that CJ is dead, no longer in the army or not with Lane, if she is living back with her family in Manchester. If he isn't dead, it certainly would be lovely if there was a pointer to CJ being back with Molly, in or out of the army, having had treatment for PTSD.
No mention of CJ, so doubt he will be in it, esp as BA is filming Pennyworth until July. If he was still in it, would he STILL be a Captain with 2 Section?!Hmm
Btw, is Lane the only member of the British Army to get promoted? Every time there is a new series, she's got an extra pip! At this rate, she'll be Joint Chief of Staff before she's 38!Grin If Brains and Fingers return, please let them be promoted!

eejittwo · 22/01/2019 19:43

THERE IS NO NEED FOR GEORGIE TO LEARN TO LIVE WITHOUT ELVIS, TG. I've given you the get-out storyline for you to re-wind the clock on this very website, haven't I, ladies? And my storyline means Molly and CJ don't split either, though there may be a story somewhere involving a chest of drawers.
Has anyone read the 'Elvis isn't dead, he was only faking' ff? Maybe not the best, stylistically, (esp compared with GHOSTS) but an interesting take, though I don''t know how plausible the faking - as explained in the story - is.
Anyway, if anyone is going to suffer PTSD, surely Georgie must, after all she has been through. Can't be only Dr Dullandboring who noticed that. So it could be interesting if TG is owning up to that.
Notice that it's a different producer from the female who came in and ruined Bangladesh / blew up Bones / had that silly ending. The new one has done Death in Paradise - Afghan's going to be a bit different from the Caribbean. Grin I
f Georgie's still getting over Elvis, does that mean only flashbacks to footage we have already seen, or maybe the odd bit from the cutting-room floor?

Delphin · 22/01/2019 21:40

Oh, you have moved on to the next Army series! Haven't been here for a while, but I just checked Amazon UK and I might order Series 1 and 2 of Soldier, Soldier. I had the complete box on my wishlist from literally years ago. At not even 9 Euros for both (incl. postage to Germany), they don't break the bank, even if I find that I don't like them. Hopefully they don't take ages to get here.

Ilovelblue · 24/01/2019 09:31

Morning ladies. Hope we've recovered from the National Television Awards (haha). I watched some of it but got bored after about 45 mins. Despite our misgivings about OG, it would have been nice for the series to have won an award.

Anyway, whatever our views on it, we still have numerous Soldier Soldier episodes to watch before the new series is screened. Are we on for our watchalong tonight?

OP posts:
eejittwo · 24/01/2019 17:59

Will be on parade at 9pm.

Rhubarb01 · 24/01/2019 19:03

Evening, will also be present and, hopefully, correct at 9pm.

It seems to me, if it was ever in doubt, that we have definitely decompressed! This is the least enthusiastic response to the news of a new series we have ever had. I'm not thrilled but I'm sure I will watch out of sheer loyalty. I am telling myself that it may be interesting, especially if there are some new two section members and a new O.C. (see, I picked that up from Soldier, Soldier!) - still hoping for a woman!

The requests for two section promotions were interesting. I don't doubt its due for a few of them, but I'm surprised that Georgie got promoted to Sergeant after all the trouble she's caused.

As for the outcome of the CJ story, I can't imagine he was killed in the jump. Consider how traumatised Georgie would be, not to mention the kiss of death label - narrow escape there Dr Boring! Actually, I wondered if he might make another appearance, somewhat changed by his jilting, although I expect Dr Judy was round there like a rat up a drainpipe, clutching a plate of leftover vol-au-vents.

If there is a good outcome for CJ - left army, proper help for PTSD and reconciled with Molly - I reckon it would be a canny move on the part of TG to wait until about episode 5 to slip the news in, as that would keep us watching.

Thinking of canny moves, I'd better leave off now until 9pm. See you then ladies!

eejittwo · 24/01/2019 19:21

Please, Rhu, don't. I couldn't cope with the manboobs! Not unless there was some SERIOUS eye candy as compensation.
Wonder if we'll see Spanner, Peanut and the new SF bloke again?

Bonniefoible · 24/01/2019 19:25

If I could have some sort of dream scenarios I would at least want to see Georgie rocking up to Afghanistan on Operation Resolute to find she’s working Molly then let the fun and games begin. Not going to happen, but it would be amaze-balls as my teenager would say.

I would settle for an off screen CJ Molly fix. Unconvinced that’s going to happen either.

Plot points that I would drive me insane (well, more insane than the end of season 3)

  1. New Captain who becomes a Georgie love interest.
  1. New SF office who becomes Georgie’s love interest (been there done that)
  1. CJ being CO still. I mean come on, they did the deed and he should be freaking Major by now.
  1. Georgie gets kidnaped. AGAIN.Hmm
  1. Georgie in charge of everyone short of a Brigadier. AGAIN.Hmm

I think I just remove most of the plot used in season 3. Grin

Rhubarb01 · 24/01/2019 20:49

Bonnie I second all your views on future plot.

eejittwo · 24/01/2019 20:58

Bonne, if I were a betting woman I would lay serious money inside of these plot threads Grin

Ilovelblue · 24/01/2019 20:58

Me too Bonnie (but I will still be watching).

In position and...we're off!

Rhubarb01 · 24/01/2019 21:01

That's an unpleasant start to the episode.
