Took the liberty of starting a new thread. Hope the title suits!

I thought that they did release the figures at the end of the series, thought I had seen them on wikipedia?

derxa · 25/11/2018 22:44

I think Pasha looks quite sad. He knows they're not going to win and he probably respects Ashley for her hard work. However the GBP will never allow it.

MozzieMagnet · 25/11/2018 22:56

Nope. ITV have given out stats for DOI and IACGMOOH but Strictly don't which pissed off Ricky Whittle no end.
Series 1-9 they said who was 1st/2nd/3rd
Series 10 onwards 2nd and 3rd positions were both called Runners Up

CassandraCross · 25/11/2018 23:01

I've never seen them Catherine and was of the belief that the BBC flatly refused to release them when asked a long time ago when there were grumbles about not being able to get through on the phone lines leading people to believe there was some manipulation going on and scandals about voting fixes on other shows/awards on ITV.

CassandraCross · 25/11/2018 23:06

ITV don't give out the number of votes on X Factor or Britain's Got Talent for respective acts do they? I know at one time one programme used to give the total number of votes cast but not break them down but I can't remember which one and I haven't watched X Factor or BGT for years and never watched DoI or IAACGMOOH.

covetingthepreciousthings · 25/11/2018 23:18

I've just seen Oti's Instagram post, kind of makes it sound like she might be leaving Strictly after this season, I hope not though.

Just basically saying she's sad her journey with Graeme is over but she'll still be involved with dancing when The Greatest Dancer starts on bbc1

CatherineCawood · 25/11/2018 23:21

I must have been thinking about DOI then? Soz.

psicat · 26/11/2018 00:00

I've got no idea what Ashley is like as a person, she may be lovely but the mean little part of me did a mean little chuckle at her reaction when her name was called out. I do not think she expected that.
I know ringers are part of the show and always have been but her and Faye seem to be the most ringer (? Ringerist??) ones yet. Ashley's jive was amazing, Faye's couples choice dance was Fab U Lous but it doesn't give the same reaction as watching a novice finally click - or for that matter someone who has some dance training in their background knock it out the park out of the blue. Watching those two is pleasant but it might as well be the pros performing.

The other thing with ringers is that, if they're in the DO the other couple have no chance (unless unlikely having 2 ringers in DO). It was G's time to go home but he could have a fighting chance against say Lauren. When Ashley's name was called he and Oti probably went round and said their goodbyes to everyone.

Nothing against the two ladies, just my little rant.

PawneeParksDept · 26/11/2018 00:10

For me now only a Kevin and Stacey win would satisfy.

A Faye win I'd accept but I'd have a face on

A Joe win would aggravate me, my first post of the season was ANYONE BUT JOE though I suppose he IS a novice

Lauren should be long gone

Charles remains "off' somehow

Ashley no for reasons gone into already but also increasingly a sense that she feels like it's a done deal and she's obviously going to win that is til tonight

Kevin and Stacey DESERVE it on every level

OP posts:
SubtitlesOn · 26/11/2018 01:23

I would love for Kevin and Stacey to win but I think Joe will win due to his you tubers voting

I think Ashley will be in DO again but will win DO again

I find Stacey's documentaries on BBC also on catchup in iplayer very powerful and she certainly has more guts than I ever would talking to drugs gangs in Mexico or violent women in Thai prisons or children that are trafficked into paedofile gangs by their own mothers or women that have started their own army in Middle East or refugee children travelling overland/sea alone from Syria etc

Stacey has an amazing way of listening to and talking to people from all over the world who live in completely different circumstances to me

some of them very violent and dangerous lives but she listens to them and lets them talk about whatever they feel about xyz

Very highly recommend that you watch them (maybe not when children are around)

Miscible · 26/11/2018 01:25

It did occur to me during the opening dance that it was slightly unfortunate to be celebrating dancing by disabled dancers during the week Lauren came bottom. It would have been even more unfortunate if she'd gone out.

UrsulaPandress · 26/11/2018 04:57

It always pisses me off when the judges get sanctimonious about the way the public vote.

MrsJamin · 26/11/2018 06:45

All caught up with others feelings about yesterday and I agree with so many of you! 👊
I don't really understand why people are voting for AJ&L - she has no passion or commitment to the movement in her dances, she always looks like she is rehearsing rather than performing. She's got to go before the final! I don't see how we're going to get anything other than an Ashley Faye Stacey and Joe final, Ashley to go and then Joe to win (perhaps Stacey).
Ashley absolutely should not be in strictly. It's not about trained dancer, it's about being a professional dancer. That shows that you haven't just done the training but people pay you to dance and just dance rather alongside any other performing skill. It's like Robbie Williams being a contestant on the x factor rather than judging it! Every week in the VT she says how haaaard the steps are and they are confusing her, it's so very very false.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 26/11/2018 06:47

I agree Ursula

Their surprise was ridiculous. Clearly no one on the Strictly team read these pages. Wink

They don’t realise the GBP don’t like a ringer. The judges attitudes really annoyed me.

I have to say Charles has grown on me - he seems to have become slightly more humble - or he’s a very good actor, which after all is his day job.

Maybe Ashley will become more humble being in the DO but I’m not so sure.

CaptainBrickbeard · 26/11/2018 06:59

Ashley does hard choreography! Do you think the pros are faking modesty on Friday ITT when they discuss the challenges of the group dance that they are LYING, FAUX-HUMBLE LIARS!!!!! Or do you accept that doing something professionally doesn’t actually prevent you from ever finding any single aspect of the job in any way difficult?? I’ve been doing my job for eleven years and some days I struggle. Why would it be different for a dancer? She’s not exactly going out there doing easy routines every week. Why do you think she’s lying when she expresses that parts of it challenge her?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/11/2018 07:51

Thank you for the thread Pawnee

Waves to MrsTommy, Fuzzy et al

Okay folks - I haven't actually spent two days under the table in the pub, but I did get rather moved pissed than I intended (just as I was about to leave, slightly squiffy, a bitching session started about someone I loathe with a passion don't much care for, so I stopped to listen, my half pint glass (I'd gone on to halves of lager as a way of "warming down" before staggering home) - anyway, my half-pint glass was miraculously filled with wine, just like the magic porridge pot, that seems to just appear and I got my second wind.

Yesterday I was busy with church and things I should have done before but didn't, and hen watched Strictly on catch-up. I found most dances disappointing (I don't know - there's a strange flat vibe this year) and only really liked Ashley's (though I thought beige wasn't't the best choice for a Latin American costume (they are hardly famous for their vibrant shades of taupe, are they?) and Faye's, which was lovely - I almost wept!, and the horror that was the Lindyhopathin made my eyes bleed.

Joe was dreadful - good on Craig for calling him out on it - Lauren was rubbish and Graeme was absolute crap. Stacey was too clumpy and her make-up made her look a bit like me on Sunday morning like she'd been dug up and reanimated. Poor Charles (never thought I'd see myself type that) seemed to be crouching and bending his knees to try to dance at the right height and it ruined his spot. Must have been very uncomfortable, too.

And the scoring fiasco! As someone wisely said - :When Bruno is the voice of reason on that panel you know the Apocalypse is round the corner the show has lost all hope.

I enjoyed that Ramps and Karen Tango, it does put into sharp relief the differences between the earlier series and now - the lack of faffing, the standard of dancing expected, adherence to the technical aspects of the dance, the scoring, I could go on and on and on. The later incarnations of SCD feel like a cheap imitation of the earlier ones, why did it go so downhill?

I've been watching the little videos kindly provided by people clever enough to do these things, and totally agree with the above comment (from previous thread, and can't remember who posted it, so apologies for not giving credit where it's due). Everything above is spot-on, and I would add that in general the music was much more appropriate - it not only makes the dancer's job easier, but it really sets the mood for the viewer and increases the pleasure we get from the performance. Costumes weren't as cheap and nasty either!

I actually didn't mind Ashley's WTF face after the "thon" - it made her much more human and less sugary and hypocritical = I like her better for it.

Joe's the one I'd like to see out, from the hight scorers, but he won't be. I'm hoping Lauren to go next - I'd love to think Chucky would stay in over Joe, but I can't see it happening. Would only occur if the DO had Joe vs Ashley/Faye - they won't let that happen.

Show has lost all integrity. I am joining the Revolution. You will find me in the shed, sharpening my bayonet and loading my musket.

maddiemookins16mum · 26/11/2018 07:55

Can’t take to Joe, in other years he’d have been long gone. Ashley being in the bottom two indicates she got the lowest public votes. Faye..meh. Stacey to win.

Lottapianos · 26/11/2018 08:00

'I actually didn't mind Ashley's WTF face after the "thon"'

Same here. CLEARLY it was the wrong result and she looked confused and a bit panicked - fair enough

partystress · 26/11/2018 08:15

Delurking to put in a word for Lauren and AJ. Agree she didn't look like her heart was in it last night, but the sheer additional difficulty of any armography, the need for AJ to work in a different way, and her positive reactions to feedback is what has me rooting for them.

Plus, was lucky enough to be at the recording of The Halloween show this year, and AJ was by far the loveliest pro - seemed to be the team player, keeping everyone smiling, and very solicitous towards Lauren off camera as well as on.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/11/2018 08:18

It always pisses me off when the judges get sanctimonious about the way the public vote.

Me too - sitting there with their "I'm-so-superior" Cats-bum faces! Yes - it's a competition, but it's also ENTERTAINMENT! If you don't like it, take your overpaid arse somewhere else!

I thought it was bloody cruel to Charles to keep him until the last two before revealing he wasn't in the DO, and I thought thatBruno should get an "official" warning for his shitty comments to Graeme.

I'verevised my earlier opinions (again!) and would like a Faye/Ashley/Stacey/Charles final with Faye to win (though I wouldn't mind Ashley - never thought I'd say that!).

Of course we won't get that because the shamefully overmarked Stick insect will not be thrown out before Charles, and due to the hormonal outrages of pubescent girls, will very possibly win.

(Then I will have a face on Hmm)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/11/2018 08:20

armography

Come the revolution, this will no longer be in the Strictly dictionary. Who had the pencil? Write that down will you, please?

In fact, write it down twice.

It's important.

Alwaysfrank · 26/11/2018 08:23

In the confusion after the lindyhopathan, I'm pretty sure Shirley began by saying Ashley had seven points, not that she was in seventh place. I re-wound and listened again.

Alwaysfrank · 26/11/2018 08:26

Also, much as I don't like Ashley very much, if people don't vote for her and she's in the dance off again it makes it unfair on whoever else is in there.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 26/11/2018 08:37

I think that was what happened too always. It would make sense to have the list reading down the paper from 7 points to 1, and it's quite common for competition results to be read out first to last rather than in reverse order.

UrsulaPandress · 26/11/2018 08:42

She did say 7 points, but I think Ashley was expecting reverse order hence her outrage shock at hearing her name first.
