EvilRingahBitch season 5 sounds very controversial! I think I'd quite enjoy the scandal Grin

I absolutely love Matthew Cutler as a dancer/teacher/choreographer despite having missed his winning series. I think the producers treated him poorly towards the end.
Gutted I missed his glory days on Strictly and that he was eliminated first in season 7 with Martina Hingis. I thought they did a beautiful dance but sadly no public support at that very early stage. I'm looking up who the judges saved. I'll be raging if it was someone crap!

I only really got to enjoy Matthew in season 6 but he had Christine Bleakley as a partner who I hated. Not helped by the judges favouritism and babying towards her.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 26/11/2018 16:45

Martina and Matthew:

A very nice waltz for the first week I thought. I see she was in the dance off with a rumba - was that a series where they got to dance a ballroom and a latin before the eliminations started?

Martina was definitely first out against Rav Wilding in the dance off. Bit unfair to have rumba that early on. It was a decent attempt but not great and it isn't a crowd pleaser. Curse Len and his deciding vote!

Aliona was new and I expect they wanted to keep her in. Rav wasn't that great and was eliminated 3rd. I seem to recall some gossip afterwards about Rav not being very pleasant - can't recall what it was about though.

Gutted to lose Matthew so early (with a competent partner too) in a season of duffers that included Richard Dunwoody (jockey) and bloody Craig Kelly!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 26/11/2018 16:48

Oh and it was Alesha's first season as a judge (gah). She didn't vote for Matthew due to perceived favouritism which gave Len the deciding vote!

Far too invested!

ThursdayLastWeek · 26/11/2018 16:55

Upon further investigation I think you’re all right, it was this mysterious Murillo fella. I watched that series but dint remember him or his partner!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/11/2018 16:59

Thank you to the lovely Arlene Phillips for choreographing the opening number, shame we didn’t think she was lovely enough to be seen on camera when we sacked her as a judge or she would now be head judge and we wouldn’t be having the most dismally cursed series ever.

Too right Choccy

I don't know which was my favourite series, but the one that I liked the least was Series 13. Jay McGuinness won it and I liked him a lot, I also liked Katie Derham and Georgia May Foote. But there was so much negativity in that series, both Peter Andre and Jamelia thought that they were much better than they actually were and sniped about their marks, and their egos seemed to over-shadow everything. Iwan Thomas also had a huge ego and thought he was a good dancer, but at least he went out early. Helen George became so neurotic that I was worried she was going to have a full on nervous breakdown in front of the camera. Ainsley Harriott was so incredibly annoying. Jeremy Vine, while not being personally annoying or egotistical like most of that batch of celebs, stayed in far, far too long and was an atrocious dancer, and every week that he stayed in Karen Hauer (I don't think she was Clifton yet then) got more shrill and manically up beat. Daniel O'Donnell, generally a pleasant man if not the brightest, got stage fright and basically froze up every time there was a camera pointed at him. And Kellie Bright, not as annoying as Harriott, but definitely attempting to be.

Honestly, it felt like car-crash TV every week until about the final two or three weeks when it calmed down a little bit.

areyoubeingserviced · 26/11/2018 17:30

My vote is for Charles now that Graeme has gone

dontcallmelen · 26/11/2018 17:41

Yy Blackamericano I think that was my least favourite series, Kellie & Kevin really really got on my nerves, I think I must have watched all the series Dh is a massive fan as well, just that sometimes because I have watched it for so long it all melds together, I really liked Sophie Ellis Bextor Charleston, forgotten how good Louise jive was.
Yy Matthew Cutler & Ian Waite loved them both, also another sportsman that I liked was Matt Dawson, he was very elegant.

SubtitlesOn · 26/11/2018 17:54

I think going on the number of social media subscribers etc Joe has he will always win the public vote every week

So therefore he will win in the final when they will be voting in their 1000000s

IMHO

dontcallmelen · 26/11/2018 18:03

Ooh yeah, jake did some fab dances I think the usual punishing EE didn’t help him towards the end.

xsquared · 26/11/2018 18:04

Unfortunately Subtitles, I think you could be right about Joe, and I really don't think he's a worthy winner. Yes, he's had a journey of some kind but he's overmarked and he's had a couple of rubbish dances.

It would be good for a woman to win it for a change, so I'm voting Stacey.

SubtitlesOn · 26/11/2018 18:38

Yes I agree with you

I have been voting Stacey since the start cos I am enjoying watching her learn and her enthusiasm (I also find her documentaries very interesting and far throw from glitter balls and sequins)

SubtitlesOn · 26/11/2018 18:40

However if Stacey is against Ashley next week the "judges" will vote her out SadAngrySad

Minimammoth · 26/11/2018 18:40

I agree, time for a woman winner. Stacey for me.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/11/2018 18:41

Dominic Littlewood was a creep who outstayed his welcome

Wasn't he though! Not dissimilar to a certain Gurning Grocer . . .

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 26/11/2018 19:09

Ew Greg Grin

I didn't realise Aliona had threatened legal proceedings against Johnny Ball:

here

I never really took to the Clifton clan. Gave Kevin a fair chance but didn't really rate Karen's dancing and OTT personality (ditto Janette on both scores) from the off and didn't feel Joanne was a good fit for the show.

Unfortunately Kevin is so ridiculously competitive he ruined whatever good vibes I had for him. I could just about stomach his series with Susannah as he was new and novel (they still grated) but no more after that!
He also seems to have had a bit of a fortunate run of partners - Susanna, Kellie, Susan, Louise, Stacey. Even Susan was a good duffer to have as she became the comedy vote-grabbing contestant.

Disclaimer: I'm sure I heard that the producers rank the contestants on ability as well as other factors such as height before pairing them with pros.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/11/2018 19:19

Pawnee - just watched your clips - was struck not only on how good the dances were - with the minimum of props and "faffin' abaht", but also how good the music was and how the costumes didn't look like they were grabbed from a jumble sale.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/11/2018 19:22

Gareth - than you for the link to the article - and as it happens, it lists the people Aliona was paired with - one of them was Greggggg Wallace! I can't remember him being on Strictly. My brain must have blocked it out to protect my fragile mental health.

mydogisthebest · 26/11/2018 19:25

Is Joe winning the public vote though? Surely if Lauren avoided the dance off even though she was bottom of the leader board it means she got more votes than all of them except Stacey and Faye?
