Hi all, I wasn't sure if Raahh was around so I thought I would start a new thread (thanks ferrier) in case of any urgent tennis news that we might need to start posting about immediately! I'm looking forward to Shanghai this week Smile

Private I will still watch, if Rafa isn't there, but with no Delpo either, I have to say my interest will be limited. I don't mind Sascha, but of the 'young guns' I'm routing for Tsitsipas. Who will be in Milan. I'm assuming they won't go with the sexist models and stuff at the draw this year for that!

PrivateParkin · 14/10/2018 20:10

Oh god is forgotten about those models!!! It was so painful!!! Yes hopefully they'll give that a miss this year.

I'm not too fussed about Zverev. I'm not mad about the way he plays, I don't know why. I just don't find him exciting to watch, sorry Sascha. I much prefer Tsitsipas, or Shaggy.

So say London is made up of:
Djokovic
Fed
Rafa?
Zverev
Andre
Cilic
Thiem
And either Keith or Isner. Rafa is going to leave a big gap if he isn't there...

Andre?! Now if he was playing I would be tuning in!

Was supposed to say Anderson...

Private Grin

I have been watching the rankings, and Delpo was so close to overtaking Federer. I was getting quite excited. Grin

PrivateParkin · 14/10/2018 20:21

I know. I think it could well have happened.

He should never have played in bloody Shanghai! He should have taken the advice of this thread, and gone home to recover from his man flu in front of an imaginary log fire!

Private I thought I was the only eejit who walked into tow bars Grin

PrivateParkin · 14/10/2018 20:55

Oh no Jane! It's so painful isn't it??! I blame my DH as the car was parked in the garage and he turned the light off just as I was trying to get past the car so I didn't see the stupid towbar. My knee still hurts now!

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 14/10/2018 21:04

I was going to a family funeral and whacked my knee off the towbar when I got out of the car. It was so painful but I had to act like nothing had happened and then afterwards I realised I had been walking around with a big circle mark on the knee of my trousers Blush and that wasn't the first time I've done it! I am a klutz.

PrivateParkin · 15/10/2018 20:54

Jane that's awful Sad I hope you were ok!

I haven't seen any tennis today (not sure if any has been on?). I saw some photos of Richard Gasquet arriving at Antwerp which was about as exciting as it got for me today (what a wet, miserable day!). He's still rocking the bleached hair.

Also Tsitsipas & Shaggy posted some photos on twitter of kids' day at the Stockholm (I think) tournament. They looked about the same age as some of the participants! Grin

JaneJeffer · 15/10/2018 22:59

I had forgot about whacking my knee until you mentioned it Private and it has been painful recently because I'd been playing football with the dog! I must get the physio to have a look at it.

We've had beautiful weather here the last few days.

PrivateParkin · 16/10/2018 13:19

I am thinking of getting my knee checked as well! But i just keep putting it off.

There's no tennis on TV this week - except on BT Sport which I don't have. I need tennis back asap - or I need to start a good book or something. I had a look at some other Mumsnet threads earlier and ended up just backing away nervously from most of them!! Shock

JaneJeffer · 16/10/2018 15:30

I know what you mean Private. I feel safer on here where you're all used to me!

JaneJeffer · 16/10/2018 18:22

Uncle Toni criticising the 25 second rule. I wonder why? Grin www.tennisworldusa.org/tennis/news/Rafael_Nadal/61474/-you-must-change-davis-cup-when-federer-nadal-don-t-play-it--uncle-toni/
Really badly written article. I could be a journalist at this rate.

PrivateParkin · 16/10/2018 19:08

Jane that article! Confused I was wondering why Uncle Toni was saying how much he liked playing in Shanghai - then I realised it had randomly switched to talking about Federer in the middle of a paragraph!

It's going to be interesting to see how the new towel rule works in the youngsters' end of year tournament...

Private - If you need a good book I have just finished 4 3 2 1 by Paul Auster & I think it is one of the best books I have ever read.

(It's long (850+pages) so I was v happy to read it on my kindle & not have to hold the book.)

I was entranced, despite some of its pretentious wankiness, and I was so bereft when I finished it that I contemplated starting it again, which I have never thought of before.

Google it & maybe give it a go - it's kept me entranced for a week.

PrivateParkin · 17/10/2018 17:35

Ooh thanks magi have just looked it up - sounds right up my street! Apart from the pretentious wankiness of course, which sensible people like ourselves could never enjoy!

No updates on Delpo. I'm quite worried.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 17/10/2018 17:45

Sounds like there is some good tennis going on at the mo, shame none of it is available to view!

Have just seen some pics on twitter of Delpo with his leg in some awful looking contraption.

OP posts:
magimedi · 17/10/2018 22:08

Poor Delpo - sounds like he's going to be out for a while.

If you read that book, Private I'd be v interested to hear your view of it.

Raahh · 18/10/2018 08:41

I'm really gutted about Delpo, he had worked so hard to get back into contention , it doesn't seem fair that the season ends for him like this. The injury doesn't sound good.

I'm off for a spa day with my mum, my sister and my dad's partner (all very amicable!)Grinit was actually Christmas present we never got around sorting(and if imhonest, my idea of hell), but I'm sure it will be fine when I get there!Grin

JaneJeffer · 18/10/2018 10:23

Hope you enjoy it Raahh. Would also be hell for me!

PrivateParkin · 18/10/2018 10:36

Yes hope you manage to enjoy it Raahh! I never used to mind stuff like that when I was younger but nowadays I can't be doing with people faffing around and prodding me etc Grin

I'm gutted about Delpo as well. His team has just tweeted he is doing physio and they can't say when he'll be back playing. Sad

OP posts:
Raahh · 18/10/2018 18:50

Thank you both, I actually quite enjoyed it.

the 3 glasses of fizz helped Grin.

PrivateParkin · 19/10/2018 14:58

Glad you enjoyed it Raahh! Fizz always helps - with anything, basically.

I see Wimbledon has just announced they're bringing in a final set tie break at 12-all. Huh. Shame they didn't think of this 4 months ago Halloween Hmm

OP posts:
Raahh · 19/10/2018 15:06

private makes you wonder if the Rafa/Djok result would have been different, had they got on court sooner, doesn't it?I totally blame Isner ( because Kevin seems like a nice bloke Grin).

PrivateParkin · 19/10/2018 16:56

Raahh I honestly think it would have been a different result. It was such a hot day which would've favoured Rafa. But anyway yes it's definitely Isner's fault. Or Djokovic's. But definitely one of them Grin

I wonder how many matches will actually get to 12-12 though? It probably changes your mindset a bit in the final set if you know you could get to a tiebreak. But it's basically a whole extra set which seems a bit much - but it's still better than 24-22 Hmm.

I see Tsitsipas is in the semi final of Stockholm. He's still got a chance of being an alternate in London I think.
