Hi all, I wasn't sure if Raahh was around so I thought I would start a new thread (thanks ferrier) in case of any urgent tennis news that we might need to start posting about immediately! I'm looking forward to Shanghai this week Smile

Thanks Private - v inconsiderate of potential house buyers stopping you from watching tennis Grin

Roger just didn’t look convincing at all - actually I don’t think he’s looked that convincing for a while. Maybe age is catching up with him and he’s not superhuman after all.

I think Djokovic will get to number 1 - I didn’t see his match with Zverev so don’t know if he played really well or if Zverev was a bit flaky.

Hopefully Coric will give him a bit of a run for his money tomorrow.

PrivateParkin · 13/10/2018 16:33

Fizzy I know, cheeky sods! Coming around here being interested in buying the house, when I want to watch tennis!! Outrageous. Grin

I hope Roger will carry on for another couple of years. Didn't he say he wanted to play Tokyo Olympics? I suppose he can't become even more selective about tournaments, he must be at the bare minimum as it is.

Yes I hope Coric will give Djok a good match tomorrow. He plays in quite a similar way. Presume Djok will win but here's hoping!

I hold onto the thought that he didn't look that convincing from 2013 to 2016 but still managed to win two Grand Slams in 2017.

PrivateParkin · 13/10/2018 20:10

Yes that's the thing with Federer isn't it? He can still turn it on. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he won the Paris masters/O2 or something.

Did you hear him saying that the courts in Shanghai were too fast for him? He was basically saying that used to be in his favour, but now it's not the case.

OP posts:
ferrier · 13/10/2018 20:31

I haven't heard his interviews no.
I think all the tour is suffering a bit from the big servers seeming to get the upper hand again.
So many courts were slowed down ... and balls changed etc a few years back but now it seems to be swinging the other way again.
From a rallying point of view I think Fed benefits from a slightly faster court. But if he has to deal with the huge service then it's not so good for him. However, if he wants to be no. 1 he needs to win on any court!

ferrier · 13/10/2018 20:33

As long as he's fit he has a very good shot at the O2. Historically the court surface has suited him there. I do worry about his back though. He didn't look as free in his movement and as quick to react as I would expect.

JaneJeffer · 14/10/2018 16:49

I didn't see the final but given the result I'm not bothered. I wonder whether there's any tennis on TV next week. Can't see anything on Sky.

Raahh · 14/10/2018 16:55

There are a few tournaments in play Jane Stockholm/Antwerp/Moscow, think the highest seed in play is Isner, though.

JaneJeffer · 14/10/2018 17:02

Oh great...

PrivateParkin · 14/10/2018 17:12

I guess the main guys are saving themselves for Paris??

I didn't see the match today either, CBA when Djokovic keeps winning!

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 14/10/2018 17:58

I felt the same about the final as well - it was on quite early and I had a nice lie in. Not really up for watching Djokovic first thing in the morning!

I think I’ll save myself for Paris now Grin

Raahh · 14/10/2018 18:06

There are a few of the top seeds scheduled to play Basel the week after. I'm just hoping Delpo is fit enough to play and he didn't injure himself too badly. He might skip Basel, and just play Paris, to give himself time?

Raahh · 14/10/2018 18:07

its been a year of two halves, definitely,as far as Djok has been concerned.

Maybe I preferred him in the first half. Grin

PrivateParkin · 14/10/2018 18:31

Yes definitely Raahh! He was much better then Grin It seems a bit unbelievable how suddenly he's come back tbh.

Yes Delpo was supposed to play in Basel. I haven't heard any updates on his injury but it wouldn't be too surprising if he didn't play. He's won it before though hasn't he, so maybe he might want to go back?? Presume Stan is playing as well. I probably will look in on that, although saving yourself for Paris does sound quite glamorous!!

Oh no - spoke too soon! Delpo fractured his knee Sad highly doubtful for London Sad

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 14/10/2018 18:34

Even saying "highly doubtful" seems unrealistic doesn't it? Surely no-one could recover from that in a month??

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 14/10/2018 18:40

Oh no - poor Delpo Sad. He’s had such bad luck with injuries - wishing him a speedy recovery.

Raahh · 14/10/2018 18:41

oh crap.SadI was really looking forward to him being there. He has been doing so well- must be gutting to have to end things now.

But a fractured knee really doesn't sound like something that will heal in a few weeks.

JaneJeffer · 14/10/2018 18:44

That sounds painful.

PrivateParkin · 14/10/2018 18:55

It does sound painful. Last summer I walked into the metal towbar on my FIL's car and absolutely whacked my knee on it - it was agony! And I didn't try to play tennis immediately afterwards!

Am gutted for Delpo, what a way to end a great season.

PrivateParkin · 14/10/2018 19:28

Isner is next in line for a London spot!! Glad I held out and didn't get tickets yet!!

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 14/10/2018 19:29

Sorry - fake news. It's actually Keith Nishikori who's in 9th place, but he's only 70 points ahead of Isner at the mo.

OP posts:
Raahh · 14/10/2018 19:39

Isner is playing 3 tournaments up to London I think, so he is in with a chance. Of the 2, at a push, I prefer Kei.

Raahh · 14/10/2018 19:39

or Keith. Grin

PrivateParkin · 14/10/2018 19:45

Yes that would be my view on it too. Slim pickings, Raahh!

If Rafa doesn't come back before Paris, this season is basically dead to me!!

I will still watch all available tennis, obvs
