Hi all, I wasn't sure if Raahh was around so I thought I would start a new thread (thanks ferrier) in case of any urgent tennis news that we might need to start posting about immediately! I'm looking forward to Shanghai this week Smile

Oh Sue's in her PJs

JaneJeffer · 14/11/2018 15:40

Might get sued Andrew? Ooh do tell

PrivateParkin · 14/11/2018 15:47

I went to make a cup of tea and the match was over!!

Why does AC fear being sued?! Grin

If they speak about what was going on with Djok Shock (we all know he knows nothing really despite all his prying during the summer)

PrivateParkin · 14/11/2018 16:49

He's just trying to hook in the viewers with his hints!!

[Pricateparkin] Anderson played the best iof anyone and I really warmed to him - he I think they said is the first SA in 23 years to qualify - I was trying to think who the last one was - I came up with Christi van Rensburg or Kevi Curran ? I would rather like him to win - he also came across very nicely in the post match interview.

Yes re Jamie Murray - saw him there last year too - they have qualified for semis already . I do enjoy doubles .

I was a bit Hmm that all the single matches were so one sided - rather thsn be close - they are the top ranked playing top ranked. So wish Delpo and Nadsl hadn’t been injured . I think the longest match was 70 mins

BeaLola · 14/11/2018 17:53

Oh and Annabelle Croft had the weirdest footwear on with her low cut knee skimming dress.

As to missing action - the lady sitting in the row in front of me went out to get a drink and when she cane back the second set had been and gone and we were on post match interviews !

£10 for a 350ml rose wine Shock

Raahh · 14/11/2018 17:54

Ahh, Kevin Curren. I saw him (twice) lose to Stefan Edberg in Didsbury ('87/88).

I can't believe that is 30 years ago!!

Raahh · 14/11/2018 17:55

Bea that is a pricey glass of wine!

Raahh · 14/11/2018 17:58

I think Wayne Ferreira might be the last South African to qualify?

PrivateParkin · 14/11/2018 18:01

Reeling at the wine prices!! And that poor woman coming back to the post match interviews. I think I wouldn't dare to leave my seat under the circumstances!!

I think Wayne Ferreira of SA must have qualified mustn't he - I haven't checked but he was always pretty consistent in the Slams. One of my fave players back in the day - what a forehand. In fact he was at Wimbledon this year - in Kevin's supporters' box on the day of the semi final.

Btw I read that Aga Radwanska has retired. She's only 29. A shame really, she was a great player for "court craft" (as they say) in an era of big hitters. Apparently she has opened a hotel in Poland which is themed around her best matches!!

OP posts:
Raahh · 14/11/2018 18:14

one of the things I always remember Aga for is a very floral dress she wore one year at RG. I was not a fan. Grin

BeaLola · 14/11/2018 18:55

Sorry about bad typing - I was in the car - passenger I hasten to add and not driver.

Yes re Wayne F - how could I forget him ?

It was £10 for 250 ml !!! - they don't let you take any food or drink in with you - I cant remember how much 2 diet cokes were but it was pricey !

I'm glad its not just me - in the afternoon I was there on my own (& had a row to myself) and the people behind/in front kept getting up every 5-10 minutes ! I made sure I had used the "facilities" , took the wine in & then sat glued to my seat for the whole session & only left at the end - I figure I'm here to watch Tennis I can go without a drink for a little while. Surely they can hang on for a bit ?

Thinking about this made me remember Eastbourne this year - my first time there. The lady & her husband next to me ate constantly - she had a hamper - picnic eggs, sausage rolls, sandwiches, cakes, G&T , trifles etc etc and they literally chumped through a whole match. I don't mind a nibble here & there but who really eats like this in RL ? I found it weird. At least there you could take your own food/drinks in if you wanted. Sorry if I sound picky !

PrivateParkin · 14/11/2018 21:16

I'm agog at people eating trifle during a tennis match!! Grin It's sort of hilarious but mostly annoying! I have to admit we did go out during Anderson v Isner at Wimbledon this year but that was long enough to have a full afternoon tea!! Not at courtside though. And I went out to get pick n mix as well Grin (I needed the energy!) But for Rafa and Novak I was glued to the seat.

The other thing that would stop me eating trifle etc would be the fear of being on TV while stuffing my face - and AC commenting on my picnic!!!

PrivateParkin · 14/11/2018 21:23

PS this Cilic-Isner match isn't fun to watch. Isner is just blasting his way through and Marin is over hitting and making nervous errors. He'll be out if he doesn't win this one I think? Although no doubt there are various "permutations" which I will wait for AC to explain tomorrow Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 14/11/2018 21:35

I've just looked at the scores for the Cilic Isner match.

I really dislike Isner. Even when I can't watch him Grin

Come on Marin!!

PrivateParkin · 14/11/2018 21:55
Grin The other annoying thing is that he's using one of those racquets with the red strings. It's really distracting (and a bit 80s?).

JaneJeffer · 14/11/2018 22:08

Private you have to eat trifle at Wimbledon next year. AC would have a great time trying to figure out what the ingredients were Grin

PrivateParkin · 14/11/2018 22:37

Jane I would actually love to do that!! Perhaps I could also sip a fruit tea and he could muse about that as well?! Much to Tim's annoyance!

PrivateParkin · 14/11/2018 22:42

Yay Marin btw. Pleased for him!! Djok has definitely qualified for the semis, I think Cilic or Zverev can still go through (presume Isner can't).

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 14/11/2018 23:36

Private I hope you would go for raspberry and echinacea tea! Haven’t watched any tennis but enjoying the AC chat! Pleased that Cilic won - still not sure how it will all pan out.

Raahh · 15/11/2018 06:34

I fell asleep.

and then woke up every 2 hours. I feel hungover.ConfusedSad
Private, I think you should flavour your trifle with strawberry and Echinacea. That would definitely be a talking point. You would need to tweet him, mid match, to tell him. He would get far too excited to watch the rest.Grin
