Hi all, I wasn't sure if Raahh was around so I thought I would start a new thread (thanks ferrier) in case of any urgent tennis news that we might need to start posting about immediately! I'm looking forward to Shanghai this week Smile

He did play well, from what i saw , magi, and you can't win consistently by relying on a big serve and serving dozens of aces. If that was the case , Karlovic would be a multi slam winner. So, obviously there has to be more to Kevins game, to have got where he is. Raonic is the same. ( when not injured).

Keith just seemed to have run out of steam, and was outplayed. But as come backs from injury go, he has to be happy with his year.

Raahh · 13/11/2018 17:41

oh, in that case Private he needs to get serving some more!Grin I looked up the match stats in the car, while I was waiting for dd1. it's a lovely gesture.

They need to dip into the Kyrgios swear jar...Grin

PrivateParkin · 13/11/2018 18:42

Yes, I think Kevin does quite a few fundraising/charity things doesn't he, and they don't just seem to be about self-promotion either (although obviously it doesn't hurt).

Yes Keith has had a great comeback year really - he was playing challengers at the start of the year!! Perhaps he has just had enough?! The WTFs quite often throw up these weird one-sided results don't they? Remember the year when there were loads of matches like that - I think it was when Andy Murray lost 6-0 6-1 to Federer, or whatever it was...

Private yes, he was, and it didn't look great for him really. I was impressed by him at Wimbledon (grass is not his thing)- I mean, any one who beats Kyrgios is fine by me, and I wasn't going to watch (2 of my least favourite players at once), but he played well, even managing to stop the endless fawning over Nick from the commentators. Grin

PrivateParkin · 13/11/2018 19:43

Yes he had a good Wimbledon didn't he - although he did beat Gulbis which I obviously hold a grudge against him for!! Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 13/11/2018 19:48

Well, Gulbis has (by recent standards) also had an ok year- surprisingly. It was good to see him playing .

Of course, Keith was then stopped by the Djok, who had found his mojo by then Grin.

PrivateParkin · 13/11/2018 21:24

Thiem was... not at his best Confused Roger played much better than Sunday though.

What a crazy group. Any of them can still qualify.

On sky arena they’re showing a Rafa/roger match from Miami - not sure what year it is but Rafa looks very young and bizarrely roger looks older than he does now. It must be from a while ago as Rafa has quite a lot of hair!

BeaLola · 14/11/2018 00:04

Back from tennis. Really enjoyed it.

Anderson was superb - but Keith ? No idea what he was up to - he never got going - it’s like he thought the warm up was still on - it was embarrassing 6-0 6-1 - the cheer when he got his 1 game - the crowd tried to Will him on but ...

Both doubles good . Federer was so much better than Sunday pm. He was less grumpy too and was less Smurf like ! Thiem didn’t get going either - he did dobd lovely returns and passing shots but seemed to give up.

They showed the tube VT a lot - they went to Houses of Parliament apparently. Didn’t get to find out why no socks but lots of close ups of his ankles .

Also in post match interview saw Kevin’s rescue dog - very cute. Out of all the players I saw Anderson was the best .gor a tall guy he moved around really well.

JaneJeffer · 14/11/2018 00:15

Glad you had a nice time Bea.

AC also said it was embarrassing for Keith.

Thiem seems to go off the boil a lot. I think his concentration isn't the best (takes one to know one).

PrivateParkin · 14/11/2018 09:37

Sounds brilliant Bea, really interesting about Anderson! He's quite underrated isn't he? Bit of a dark horse for the title here would you say?

Did you see Jamie Murray then - he was playing yesterday wasn't he? I haven't seen that anywhere is showing the doubles but presume they will once it gets to the knock out stage.

Glad Roger didn't disappoint! Agree with you both about Thiem. He's great to watch when he's on it, though.

Raahh · 14/11/2018 14:21

I've just tuned in, and AC wants a juicy 3 setter today.

I suppose none of the matches have been great so far- the Cilic/Zverev one had potential, if Marin had been able to win a set- but he just squandering chance after chance.

Raahh · 14/11/2018 14:22

They are discussing tea again.

PrivateParkin · 14/11/2018 14:22

AC is back on the tea topic....

Raahh · 14/11/2018 14:22

Boris and Matts Wilander!

Lendl is looking very stern indeed.

Raahh · 14/11/2018 14:29

We have been commenting on the pink/red for ages. Get with the programme, AC!

PrivateParkin · 14/11/2018 14:48

Yes, AC needs to check the thread to stay up to speed!!

Not sure about Boris's jacket. I think he just about gets away with it!

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 14/11/2018 14:50

Zverev looking impressive - take back what I said the other day.

OP posts:
Raahh · 14/11/2018 15:04

First set Djok then.

At least I'm spared the commentary while I'm in the car. Grin

JaneJeffer · 14/11/2018 15:05

Just caught the end of the set. Come on Sascha!

AC made me laugh saying Djok had "some things in his private life which we don't talk about ". Only because nobody will tell you Andrew Grin

PrivateParkin · 14/11/2018 15:13

I know!! As though he's privy to everything that goes on!

MajesticWhine · 14/11/2018 15:14

I have an unexpected afternoon off and thoroughly enjoying this match - very good quality.

MajesticWhine · 14/11/2018 15:25

Oh crap, since I posted that Zverev has lost the plot

MajesticWhine · 14/11/2018 15:31

I hate that thing when Djok tries to make the crowd cheer for him a bit louder. So desperate.

JaneJeffer · 14/11/2018 15:35

Yes Majestic if you have to encourage them to cheer when you've just won it's not a good look
