Hi all, I wasn't sure if Raahh was around so I thought I would start a new thread (thanks ferrier) in case of any urgent tennis news that we might need to start posting about immediately! I'm looking forward to Shanghai this week Smile

Yay well done to both of them! Good decision on the Wimbledon tie break thing. It will probably end up being known as the Isner rule although it’s not really anything to be proud of.

JaneJeffer · 21/10/2018 18:29

Well done Kyle. I didn't think he was going to win after he lost the first set.

I'm happy for Tsitsipas but I would have loved Gulbis to win it cos I love him.

You're right Fizzy Isner should be ashamed of himself Grin

PrivateParkin · 21/10/2018 19:14

I love Ernests as well - he's so talented and seems a bit crazy. I was just looking him up (as it were) and his highest ever ranking was no10, and since then he's been down at no589 Grin and now back "up" to no145!!

I do love Tsitsipas and hope that he's the future of tennis etc, but it would've also been nice to see Ernests win another title. Can't have everything eh??

I agree Gulbis is a real talent, who seemed to fade away. it's great to see him back in the mix.

ferrier · 21/10/2018 19:38

Awww ... just seen a little clip of Kyle after his win.

Raahh · 22/10/2018 21:08

Good to see Cilic won today. I saw he was playing Shaggy and I was a little concerned after his recent run of form.

PrivateParkin · 22/10/2018 21:10

Hmm - that's interesting about Federer. So he's saying he was injured at Wimbledon? That explains a lot.

I see Stan has withdrawn from Basel and won't play again until next year. Basel and ? (whichever other men's tournament is on this week, I can't remember) anyway they are both on Sky.

Have there been any updates on Rafa does anyone know??

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 22/10/2018 21:12

Oh I didn't see that about Cilic Raahh - I'm pleased for him! I was also a bit worried about him. Hopefully he can get some good results the rest of the year.

PS I've been lurking in the Christmas bargain threads and now I'm getting loads of ads for some doll or other at the top of this page - I have no intention of buying any dolls at all!! Bring back the Tu Tsitsipas lookalike ads!!

private it's Vienna at the moment as well, I'm score watching the Raonic match.

Raahh · 22/10/2018 21:22

it's a real shame about Stan, I was hoping he would end the year well but it was not to be.

Mama1980 · 23/10/2018 08:08

Poor Stan, was also hoping he could end this yea on a high.
I've been looking for updates in Rafa but I don't honk there's been any news yet....

ferrier · 23/10/2018 17:00

Just been watching Norrie vs Isner. I really do hate it when the big servers win ☹

mama1980 · 24/10/2018 09:56

Me too ferrier
Saw fed went through in Basel but only just, lots of speculation as to whether or not he is still not 100% fit.
Does anyone know if Delpo has pulled out of the ATP WTF?

PrivateParkin · 24/10/2018 16:12

Apparently Delpo is still hoping to play in London mama!! I can't see how a fractured knee could heal that quickly but I admit I am not a doctor!! Maybe if it's just a very minor fracture it could be ok? But I have to say, it sounds like he should be relaxing on a couch somewhere rather than busting a gut (or knee) trying to be fit for London. But what do I know.

I haven't seen any of Basel yet but that scoreline was surely a lot closer than Fed would've wanted.

OP posts:
Raahh · 24/10/2018 16:58

private I think if it was me, I'd be giving myself more time, and coming back strong in the new year. He doesn't have great luck with injuries healing quickly.

PrivateParkin · 24/10/2018 17:25

Yeah me too Raahh. In some ways I'd prefer him not to play. Even though I'd love to see him there. He should be looking at the bigger picture IMHO.

They were saying on the good old tennis podcast today that soon, ie in the next year or two, there's going to be a "lull" like after Sampras finished playing but before Federer became good when people (Hewitt, Roddick etc - well they didn't say their names but I assume that's who they meant) could nip in and get a slam or two before the next dominant players came along. So they were saying once Federer, Rafa, Djokovic retire, there will be opportunities. They were suggesting Kyle Edmund could possibly cash in on this, which I'm not so sure of. But DelPo has to be ready for that I think. He'd be better off protecting himself now with a view to playing for longer. I mean, do the players really care about winning the WTFs?? Maybe he's just desperate to participate??

PS saw this funny picture from the Stockholm final. Ernests doesn't look too pleased with the bouquet does he?! He won again today, in Basel - on course for a match with Fed I think. That'd be great. Ernie for the win!!

Raahh · 24/10/2018 18:03

GrinHe looks thrilled ! Oh, definitely Ernie to win. I'm not convinced by Federer at the moment, and the other day he claimed he was injury free, so I will be very sceptical if that is used to excuse any more dips in form.

Raahh · 24/10/2018 18:11

Stefanos is through too. Which is great.

PrivateParkin · 24/10/2018 18:30

Yay! They're both on a hot streak at the moment!!

OP posts:
Raahh · 24/10/2018 19:12

Dimitrov's year is not looking like it will end on a high, he lost again today.

Raahh · 24/10/2018 21:23

I've just seen Coric won- but Cilic has lost his first set.

JaneJeffer · 24/10/2018 21:44

I'm not surprised Ernests isn't impressed with that bunch of wilting flowers Grin

I saw a tiny bit of his match today until Jack Sock went off for treatment. Apparently Ernests had also had a bit of courtside treatment so I hope he's not injured.
