No change there then. He’s always been an arse. I’m still a diehard bbc1 bake off fan but don’t mind it on 4. My dd refuses to watch it with me now though as she says it’s lost it’s genuineness. I also Intensely dislike Noel though.

ppeatfruit · 22/10/2018 08:53

Oooh I though Noel was going to be terrible but I have totally changed my mind, he's really sweet . He 's quite subversive too , saying cheeky things about Paul !!

ppeatfruit · 22/10/2018 08:54

"thought"

Graphista · 22/10/2018 14:35

Having to post in parts as neither app nor mobile site playing fair!

I thought it was fair enough to judge the slicing. Partly as it is part of the remit and they'll have had time to learn how the item (forget the name) should be made/look. Also because it shows if the bread is the right consistency for the dish.

B00dymary - no fancy pans here though I have to resist the urge to buy the huge would take up too much space and just gather dust anyway "dip and cook" special pan/device currently being featured on late night informercial!😂😂

"He's just got the latest maintenance bill from his ex wife" 😂😂😂 you just know he's an avoider that doesn't pay till he has to eh!

Graphista · 22/10/2018 14:36

Based on this week Rahul should have gone but let's be honest they've taken previous weeks into account. Bear in mind too - editing! More dramatic if all those previous weeks talked up in commentary and then has a duff week. Producers hoping we'll be all "noo not Rahul" but we are not that easily fooled eh? plus he's not as lovely as Liam

All that said manon was arrogant not sticking to the remit thinking French better.

"which is arguably what Manon did in sticking to classic French recipes." Agree! If they'd been asked to make a Madeira and she'd made an albeit good Victoria sponge you wouldn't be defending her - that's essentially what she's done!

"Santaclarita, you’ve summed it up very well." Agreed

Wowfudge she was never gonna win, she'd had other issues in other weeks too.

Can't see comments on radio times anyone got a link?

Graphista · 22/10/2018 14:36

I agree with ruby for star baker though - you lot just don't like her cos of her sarcastic humour! I love her! I think she's from a big family and so pretty thick skinned - nothing like loads of brothers/sisters/cousins to rub off your corners and toughen you up!

"I do enjoy Ruby's style. It was hilarious when her family were all shrieking down the phone and she just commented "I told you I was the quiet one in the family." " haha me too! She reminds me of my bff from 2nd high school - also big family, jolly and lots of fun but takes no nonsense!

"It’s a bit unfair on Briony having a round which in part necessitates cutting bread very thinly. It can’t be at all easy for her." Sorry but I actually think that's doing her a disservice she cracks on every week with finicky bits etc no different this week she's being judged the same as everyone else which is as it should be. Good on her she has done so well and now in semis she may well excel next week!

Oh yes! When is schaden due back? Ahhhh there you are! similar batter to yorkies I think except buttermilk instead of normal milk look way too fiddly to be arsed with - I'm with ruby split and fill that way!

Graphista · 22/10/2018 14:37

"and I also think Rahul has been set up from the beginning to win the whole thing" the same has been said of previous series but I think what actually happens is its edited after they know the winner so that the winner is more features and in a more positive light. Very noticeable in early episodes as the ones who go out early are barely on screen. I'd rather they edited more evenly - more interesting then as no clues.

Briony cries at the drop of a hat carefully balanced tier of cake so it now just irritates me when she cries

KJ though is normally fairly even temperament so it was tough to see her upset, it's not like her.

I don't think his lack of confidence is COMPLETELY fake but as its part of his personality he'll have spent all his life having to sort of "cajole" himself to do things he fears failing at. In fact I'm wondering if it's more fear of failure (too high standards on himself) rather than true lack of confidence the 2 don't necessarily go together - also how many times have we all felt confident doing X at home only to in a different environment think "fuck I don't think I can do this"?

Op I preferred how BBC did it and I prefer their presenters/judge but the ch4 one isn't awful as I feared. But what does annoy me is that it's on till 2115 which means it clashes with the start of the resident (which I refuse to miss a minute of!) so I have to watch on catch up and struggle to find the time in my hectic viewing schedule

wowfudge · 22/10/2018 14:43

@Graphista - so what if Manon was never going to win it? She didn't deserve to go last week. Everyone who is still in the competition has made mistakes and had disasters.

Graphista · 22/10/2018 15:24

I was referring to your comment about they didn't want a French person to win just saying I don't think that was a possibility

Kool4katz · 22/10/2018 15:40

Love Noel and actually prefer the C4 version overall.
Would have been happy if they ditched PH and found a new expert judge. He's clearly an arsehole.
Glad Manon went as she's just plain annoying.
Definitely want Ruby to win as she's my imaginary BFF.
I actually like Rahul and think he's seriously talented whilst Briony and KJ are obviously very competent and lovely but I really don't want them to win.

Graphista · 22/10/2018 17:20

Omg I'm watching rizzoli and isles and they found a aebleskiver pan at a crimes scene GrinGrinGrin

A scandi descent cop recognised it!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/10/2018 17:24

I’m not a big PH fan but I do think they probably needed him for continuity, as everyone else had changed.

FWIW, I don’t think Mel, Sue and Mary were being ‘loyal’ to the BBC out of any sense of principle. It was a cold hard career decision. They all get a lot of other work from the Beeb, and good luck to them. PH doesn’t.

I’m less worried about the judges than what they have to judge. It’s all about the architecture these days. I bet the actual baking is a lot more interesting in the qualifying heats. They should televise those.

Yoo-hoo Graphista

Yes - I'm here. Looking forward to tomorrow (The week can't go quickly enough for me. This is my LIFE!)

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 22/10/2018 20:07

I think the same fleas. I long for the era of "proper" baking.

derxa · 22/10/2018 20:21

Love Noel and actually prefer the C4 version overall Me too. Noel is a wee sweetie. I can't stand Sue P.

Graphista · 23/10/2018 01:03

Hey schaden Smile

My weeks go in somehow slow and too fast at the same time. Agoraphobia is a bastard! I'd be going out my mind without mn and telly most of its gone already!

As I said I watch on catch up as I watch the resident and there's a 15 min overlap. But as its the semis I'll try and watch tomorrow night at some point. I've yet to watch last weeks extra slice too.

ppeatfruit · 23/10/2018 11:01

But it's not ALL architectural it's only the showstoppers, the BEEB did them too. I quite like the fact that there are some proper homely recipes too, like the rye bread etc. unusual but educational too. independents

PH does quite a few baking programmes for the independents too. i'm off line for 2 weeks now see ya'll later Grin KEEEEEEEP BAKING !!!!!!

glamorousgrandmother · 23/10/2018 13:26

So, who thinks Rahul will go tonight?

StripySocksAndDocs · 23/10/2018 13:58

If this week's effort is the same as last one's then yes he should go; if it is and he doesn't go when he should have again then it'll be deeply suspicious!

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 23/10/2018 14:35

I don't think he will glamorous, but I hope he will.

He gets on my wick . . . (I know, I KNOW - everybody else loves him and thinks he's so sweet etc etc etc. Well, I don't. He might be lovely in real life, but on here he is getting right on my mammary glands. SO THERE.)

HildaZelda · 23/10/2018 14:43

I think Kim Joy will go tonight.

GhoulishGremlins · 23/10/2018 14:56

Loving the new name Schadenfreude!

Riversleep · 23/10/2018 16:11

I think Briony or Ruby. Both Rahul and Kim Joy are divisive with the public so I'd think the producers will want them both in.

whatashower · 23/10/2018 16:19

Hi all. Looking forward to tonight, think its still anyone's game. Rahul will be under pressure to bounce back convincingly for sure, and it feels like K-Js to lose, maybe? If Rahul does turn in a good performance and no-one truly, truly bombs like Rahul did last week, it will be a hard one for the judges tonight.

Graphista i would have been beside myself if I'd seen that rizzoli and isles episode just after gbbo. How extraordinary 😀

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 23/10/2018 17:13

Loving the new name Schadenfreude!

Me too and I was tempted to make a similar modification myself, but whilst I quite like being called fleas I’m not sure I could feel the same about worms Confused
