“and instead of sugar they need honey /syrup or molasses, plus soaked, whisked linseeds, to keep them in one piece!”

That’s isn’t quite true ppeatfruit. I have made several vegan cakes, and have used none of those ingredients. Unlike you I love chickpeas, coconut and cashew nuts. However I only like coconut in dishes that are meant to taste of coconut. The vegan “cheese” made with coconut is truly vile.

Your post made me laugh out load @SchadenfreudePersonified Grin

Sorry for deviating this thread into parsnip territory BTW. Parsnips have no place on a baking threa. In fact they have no place anywhere.

StripySocksAndDocs · 03/10/2018 16:03

Parsnips are evil potatoes. Especially chopped. You innocently think it's a potato so eat it, only for parsnip taste to fill anger your taste buds.

LoniceraJaponica · 03/10/2018 16:05

I have been taking in by fake mash such as this before. The disappointment is devastating.

yawning801 · 03/10/2018 16:17

Parsnips are just vile. I hate sweet potatoes and can only just about deal with sweetcorn - but parsnips...

FuzzyCustard · 03/10/2018 16:42

I pop over here to sign in only to find you are already two pages in! Yikes!!

My daughter once made a beetroot cake and I was really disappointed as I thought the red streaks were jam.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/10/2018 16:48

Parsnips are generally modest vegetables. Carrots, on the other hand, are positively lewd. They seem to delight in growing protuberances.

I need to have a bash at a vegan cake in a couple of weeks, so this episode is well timed for me. Even though I can't quite get my head round the idea of cake without butter.

whatashower · 03/10/2018 17:30

Random news but if there any Scots on this thread, my Facebook feed tells me a vegetarian Square sausage has just been launched. I’m not a big fan of stuff pretending to be something else but I do wonder what it tastes like. It’s equally pink 😀

rebelworld · 03/10/2018 17:37

You could tell whose collapsing cake it was as Noel’s immediate reaction was to turn to physically comfort them.

LoniceraJaponica · 03/10/2018 17:55

*@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal * this raspberry chocolate cake is absolutely delicious, and doesn’t taste “worthy” at all. I have made it a few times and not told people it is vegan. They love it as it is very fudgy and yummy.

Over600Ecalypts · 03/10/2018 17:57

@whatashower - I'm hoping to get hold of some. I've heard it's in Aldi and Morrisons. Can't wait!

FuzzyCustard · 03/10/2018 18:13

Anyone who wants gluten free stuff, I can recommend Lidl's gluten free nut bars. They are VERY yummy.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/10/2018 19:44

Oooh, thank you @LoniceraJaponica!

ChicagoLil · 03/10/2018 21:28

I bloody love parsnips and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Curried parsnip soup.

HildaZelda · 03/10/2018 21:59

Only place beetroot belongs is in the bin. Bleurgh! Sad

iklboo · 03/10/2018 22:21

Ooooh I love beetroot. And parsnips.

Swede & turnips on the other hand are 'anging.

glamorousgrandmother · 03/10/2018 22:35

I love beetroot, parsnips, turnips and swede. In fact, any vegetable except Jerusalem artichokes.

Gersemi · 03/10/2018 23:26

I've hated beetroots with a passion since being regularly forced to eat pickled beetroot in school. Since then I refuse to contemplate eating them in any form whatsoever.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 04/10/2018 06:37

Really interested to see what a vegan meringue is like

ppeatfruit · 04/10/2018 07:37

OMG Gersemi Are you my dh? !! He was force fed beetroot in vinegar, there was no other in those days, at school by a nun ( a little sister of mercy!!!!!!) when he was 4 and he feels the same as you about it!!!!!

Which is Sad because it's lovely, I like ALL roots. Except potatoes.

glamorousgrandmother · 04/10/2018 08:04

I remember a spoonful of vinegary beetroot beside a pile of watery mashed potatoes for school dinners in the early 60s. It was disgusting and I refused to eat it. Vegetables deserve to be treated with respect and then they are delicious.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 04/10/2018 09:20

Tonight the shower family were having pork, leek and cheese encroute. (i.e. an artisan sausage roll). Have adjusted the menu board slightly to pork, leek, cheese and angora

If I see anyone picking fur from their teeth, I'll know it is either Bear Grylls or member of the Shower family.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 04/10/2018 09:22

My daughter once made a beetroot cake and I was really disappointed as I thought the red streaks were jam

It's not to late to have her taken into care Fuzzy

ppeatfruit · 04/10/2018 11:17

A good pinny is always useful if you're wearing angora or cat hairs Schade

Iam now trying desperately to remove all the effing cat hairs from our house because our ds and his lovely new wife are visiting tomorrow. He has a terrible allergy to cat hairs. (we live in an OLD stone house with bumpy walls and beams) we have one house cat and one stray Persian who WANTS to be a house cat and dh lets him can you imagine? Oh and 2 other strays that we look after outside.

whatashower · 04/10/2018 11:19

Good luck with that ppeatfruit 😀👍
