Yes but bake off is a completely unknown quantity. You are putting yourself up to be judged on something that you do for a hobby. You don't need to do that, whereas you would need to go for job interviews. After this week, I think it's more that he just needs people to tell him he's great all the time. He clearly was shocked when he actually was crap rather than the fishing for compliments poor me when he was clearly going to get told he was brilliant.

SneakyGremlins · 16/10/2018 22:47

Hang on, is Kim joy wearing eyeshadow?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/10/2018 22:49

My face is literally 🙄 every time he simpers

Me, too gremlins

I want to smack him.

SneakyGremlins · 16/10/2018 22:50

Yay judging time!

southeastdweller · 16/10/2018 22:50

'Unknown quantity'? One of the most popular TV shows of this decade? Confused

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/10/2018 22:50

He's really getting on my wick now - playing for sympathy.all the time.

SneakyGremlins · 16/10/2018 22:51

Manon's looks good, I thought.

wowfudge · 16/10/2018 22:51

I've just caught up and I call FIX! No way did Rahul deserve to go through instead of Manon. His rye bread was terrible, his apple pancakes were burned and his Danish pastries were burned and the decoration messy. They justified getting rid of Manon because she hadn't filled her pastries.

SneakyGremlins · 16/10/2018 22:52

Holy fuck Kim Joy's looks incredible

Heratnumber7 · 16/10/2018 22:53

All at number 7 agree with you wow. Definite fix.

SneakyGremlins · 16/10/2018 22:53

Oh Kim Joy don't cry Sad

Riversleep · 16/10/2018 22:53

An unknown quantity for him I meant. If I was as unconfident as he's made out, Id be thinking I wasn't good enough to even get through so why put myself through it. I wouldn't even bother applying.

SneakyGremlins · 16/10/2018 22:54

Ginger and blueberry? Confused

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/10/2018 22:54

Well, that's that.

See you next week people.

SneakyGremlins · 16/10/2018 22:54

Plus they go through several auditions.

southeastdweller · 16/10/2018 22:57

Could be a few reasons - maybe the pressure of being on TV got to him, maybe it was competing with other people for the first time. Practicing at home and actually doing it are two very different things. Who knows, maybe even someone else pushed him to compete.

Justmuddlingalong · 16/10/2018 22:57

He reminds me of the really brainy kid at school who did all the "oh, I've failed, I just know I've blown it" shit after every test or exam. It wears thin, very quickly.

SneakyGremlins · 16/10/2018 22:59

Dweller, are you his mum?Grin

Kim Joy's shocked face when they said Manon Shock

StripySocksAndDocs · 16/10/2018 23:10

well those were both surprising choices.

All seemed off kilter this week.

MrBirlingsAwfulWife · 17/10/2018 00:12

If his first bake was inedible and his technical was last and his showstopper was burnt....surely the judges needed to clarify their decision not to send Rahul home??? His baking was the worst. If they decided that Mannon went because she didn't meet the brief then they should have clarified becsuse it certainly wasn't obvious to me.
Oh and Bryony should have been star baker

Santaclarita · 17/10/2018 06:22

I think they sent manon home because in her first challenge, the bread wasn't even Danish it was French. She got 4th in the technical and in the showstopper she did French baking again with pain au chocolate and it was burnt and not nice. You can't really go through when you can't follow the rules. Rahul was shite too but he at least did danish baking. Badly, but he did try.

PollyFlinderz · 17/10/2018 06:39

Santaclarita, you’ve summed it up very well.

lLikeCake · 17/10/2018 07:48

But if you are a perfectionist- at school, at sport, at baking - the slightest failure will be mortifying.

I think Rahul is a genuine, meek, modest guy who gives himself colossal standards to achieve.

If you want Astar AStar A at A Level to get to Oxbridge and you get AAA then in your eyes you've failed. If you need ABB to get to Keele and you get AAA then that's a mighty success. Same A level grades, different outcomes.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 17/10/2018 08:14

Rahul reminds me of Ruby from a few years back (who I hated...even now, if I say I can’t stand a celebrity, DM says “ah but as much as Ruby?!”). The constant “oh I’m saying it’s crap just so everyone says how brilliant it is” or “oh I’m soooo stressed, I must be going”

Fucking stop it. It’s annoying

derxa · 17/10/2018 08:39

DH who has never watched GBB before last night was outraged that Manon was eliminated. We were shouting at the telly. What a travesty!
