Thank you soooo much Myimaginarycat Grin

bibliomania · 03/10/2018 09:50

Thanks for the new thread. I loved the teaser shot for next week's programme showing a cake completely falling apart. (Am slightly shocked at myself that I now count this as High Drama, but I do, I do).

iklboo · 03/10/2018 09:57

Thank you. Not sure if I will be able to watch live(ish) next week. I'm pretty sure DS's school has something on. Should be interesting though - completely new challenges.

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2018 09:59

It;s probably a vegan cake bibliomania I make vegan cakes they need more baking powder, and instead of sugar they need honey /syrup or molasses, plus soaked, whisked linseeds, to keep them in one piece!

I hate chickpeas, you can use the unsalted liquid from a can of white beans for aquafaba. I also hate coconut and cashew nuts, which is a problem when shopping because they're in EVERYTHING vegan !!!1

Igottastartthinkingbee · 03/10/2018 10:29

Oh my god the trailer for next week had us howling ‘nooooooooooo!!!!!!’ at the sliding cake!

whatashower · 03/10/2018 10:37

Yes, thanks cat great title too.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 03/10/2018 11:38

I just like everything (except parsnips Grin)

Lonicera - I have carried this forward from the previous thread because i think it is a really important point.

PARSNIPS ARE FILTH!

They should only be fed to cattle with wonky tastebuds.

They are fit for neither man nor beast (but what can you expect, as they are not even vegetables, but merely the ghosts of long-dead carrots)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 03/10/2018 11:39

Oh - and thank you for the thread cat. Much appreciated.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/10/2018 12:00

PARSNIPS ARE FILTH!

Now @Schaden, I thought we were friends, and then you go and say something like that Sad

Parsnips roasted in Parmesan are heavenly, also in whole grain mustard and a bit of honey.

They are revolting boiled, I’d agree. 🤢

Jumping on the thread!

Sorry to see Dan go. I bet he'd have coped well in vegan week as he often made comments about the technical aspects of baking. He just had a total mare this time.

Love parsnips, roasted (honey roasted preferably)

whatashower · 03/10/2018 12:46

Ok, we are allowed to carry forward parsnips but can we park my gentle roasting for being underwhelmed by vegan week which I am now regretting the rest? 😀

whatashower · 03/10/2018 12:50

Am not going to watch the trailer as DH gets amused when I involuntarily scream and cover my eyes at a surprise cake collapse. On a par with the shower scene in Psycho or when that head bobs through the boat in Jaws. Etc, etc.

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2018 12:55

Oh dear Schade I LOVE parsnips (hides face in shame) They are sweet and delicious, they do have to be fresh and organic though, you see I don't like spuds so I use parsnip or celeriac mash instead.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 03/10/2018 13:34

In the interests of peace and harmony, I am prepared to overlook all of you perverted passions for parsnips.

They are tolerable roasted in honey, but nothing more and I will allow you to eat whatever you like, you are adults, after all, and can't be saved can make your own choices.

shower - your anti-vegan tirade is a thing of the past in my eyes.

bookbook · 03/10/2018 13:57

Thanks for the new thread fleas
parsnip muffins are delicious - I grow a few, and always end up with spare as there are only a couple of my family that like them - but the muffins get devoured !

Toofle · 03/10/2018 14:25

ppeatfruit, honey? That is no vegan recipe!

ChicagoLil · 03/10/2018 14:30

Parsnip cake.

Toofle · 03/10/2018 14:32

Will nobody think of the bees?

abbsisspartacus · 03/10/2018 14:34

Is parsnip cake better than beetroot cake?

SneakyGremlins · 03/10/2018 14:35

I hate parsnips. Fake carrots they are.

jay55 · 03/10/2018 14:45

I love parsnips but not in cake, I always disapprove of veggies in cake, unless it’s a fish cake.

whatashower · 03/10/2018 14:53

Curried parsnip soup is magnificent, tbf.

Currently baking puff.

Top tip. Do not wear a fluffy jumper when baking.

Tonight the shower family were having pork, leek and cheese encroute. (i.e. an artisan sausage roll). Have adjusted the menu board slightly to pork, leek, cheese and angora.

'Will nobody think of the rabbits'

bookbook · 03/10/2018 15:00

abbsiss - definitely better than beetroot cake, not as good IMO as carrot cake .
I use this recipe, and leave out the nuts , and make it as muffins,( so I don't need the filling/icing )
parsnip and maple syrup recipe

Over600Ecalypts · 03/10/2018 15:23

We are also looking forward to vegan week. I have made chickpea meringue and vegan marshmallows - both work well but I find them tasting too bean-y. You can also use the liquid from most other beans too. Even from tinned peas and tinned potatoes!!!

I saw the collapsing cake in the closing credits - won't say whose it might have been. The shot showed Sandi and Noel plus contestants outside, walking away from the tent and they were looking back at the cake so saw it happen. One contestant was Shock - probably theirs? I think it happened after the baking time had ended and the production crew were filming all the bakes before judging.

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2018 15:26

Toofie I didn't mention cooking them in honey btw. But I'm not a vegan just a sort of health freak Grin

mmmm carrot cake book My most successful vegan cake to date , made with cooked carrots, DH had no idea what was in it, he just kept eating it!!
