OP posts:

I just wanted to kill him from 5 minutes into the first episode. He was totally controlling. When they went for the drive I kept telling her to release his seatbelt - I then told DH 'be careful' but he reminded me I wouldn't leave the driveway today until he'd done his seatbelt. I found the whole series gripping and I'll be reading the book and will recommend it to our bookclub if it's anything like the series.

Didn't the end of last week's show close with her in the dock on trial for his murder / manslaughter - or did I dream this ?
TBH, neither of them were nice folk.

Gemini69 · 21/10/2018 22:51

I'm so glad it had a proper ending.. so many of these things have dreadful open endings... Grin

Clawdy · 21/10/2018 22:52

I think Chloe felt Noah was being forgotten in the huge publicity about her dad and Jo. She didn't understand the situation.

I believe it was an Inquest into the circumstances if Alistairs 'ahermm' accidental death...

StripySocksAndDocs · 21/10/2018 22:54

Yes Chloe was odd - she hadn't had a great childhood though. It had all be a bit dysfunctional.

The first birthday thing was odd for sure.

bunintheoven88 · 21/10/2018 22:54

@cadburyegg

I didn't understand her holding the photo of Noah up either. Fair enough if it was photo of her dad, but Jo had nothing to do with Noah's death in the end. Didn't get that but, but thought the rest was good. And yeh Chloe was really creepy!

RandomMess · 21/10/2018 22:56

Chloe believed Noah was still alive, she wanted to do celebrate that hope.

Often families do something to commemorate a child's birthday after they've died.

Summary of the book below - which has a very different ending, it would seem

MissEliza · 21/10/2018 22:58

I guess Chloe is convinced that Jo is guilty of Noah's murder.
What did everyone think of the publicist being in the flat enjoying a drink when Jo got home? Was Alasdair moving on?

Clawdy · 21/10/2018 23:03

Just read that book summary - what is the relief she gets at the end? Read the book but can't remember!

OzzyMadBat · 21/10/2018 23:04

Joanna also makes a discovery which gives her some peace at the end of the novel

For those who have the book, what is this referring to?

myrtleWilson · 21/10/2018 23:07

I think Chloe is a 14/15 year old teen girl who has been caught up in the online debate about Noah. She was excited about Noah coming (hence the bootee) and being a teen is online - in one scene she talks about "online people say x or y" and I can see how she took the photo of Noah at 1 from an online forum where people are discussing what he may look like.
I don't think Chloe is malicious or believes Jo killed Noah but she's been caught up in a furore. But I think Chloe holding the photo of Noah was Jo realising that despite everything she still has to live with Alasdair's actions and lie - she can't live her life in any sort of peace because she can't speak the truth...

Wingedharpy · 21/10/2018 23:09

A leopard doesn't change its spots MisEliza.
Definitely he would have tired of Jo and got himself another woman at some point but she didn't give him chance.
She was just biding her time to get to what she wanted. And what she wanted was to know why Noah had died and where he was buried.

2rebecca · 21/10/2018 23:13

I thought the photo and her lying on the wooden floor was because she realized that was where he was buried. That was the photo he took when she asked where he was buried. I thought she later realized he was under the floor boards.

Aridane · 21/10/2018 23:16

I posted the book summary as Joanna pleads guilty and is sent to a mental institution for a couple of years...

Wingedharpy · 21/10/2018 23:19

That's what I thought too 2rebecca.
Maybe that was her peace, or as much peace as she would ever get.

fatbrows · 21/10/2018 23:48

Thanks for the book spoiler :/

SinisterBumFacedCat · 21/10/2018 23:51

Didn't watch because I read the book about a month ago. The book is brilliant, Helen Fitzgerald is well worth a read. I might watch on iPlayer if I get time!

OzzyMadBat · 21/10/2018 23:55

@sinister can you PM me the answer to the above thanks x

SinisterBumFacedCat · 22/10/2018 00:47

OzzyMadBat · 22/10/2018 06:39

Thanks x Flowers

OzzyMadBat · 22/10/2018 06:45

It sounds like it was a pretty decent adaptation. Maybe a slow edit (4 hours could have been cut down?) Still unsure as to Chloe holding photo and justice for Noah signage...assume that it was a comment on people being overinvested/libellous/tricoteuse (like in the case we cannot mention). Did it reveal what Alex had been digging/why the shovel etc (I drifted in and out at various times, sorry). Was the Noah case still open/a cold case?

JustDanceAddict · 22/10/2018 07:16

Why was she on for murder though, there must’ve been more evidence we were t party to? Was it just the undone seatbelt that got her arrested?
Tbh I wasn’t keen on the ending - even though I know all Jo wanted was gone bear Noah’s resting place she probably won’t get peace as she will always know what really happened.
Alistair was vile -,it was obvious he had given him the wrong meds, but I wasn’t sure when - glad he died!!

OzzyMadBat · 22/10/2018 07:23

No evidence of braking
