It was a difficult watch I thought. DH had to leave the room half way as he couldn't cope. I have taken a 4 month old on a flight to Australia from London so I really felt her pain, that said there is absolutely no way an air hostess would say other passengers had been complaining. They are so super lovely when you have a baby.

I think Noah is dead. Probably mixed up medicines on the plane or something and that is why we don't hear him on the really long drive, yet he has cried in every other scene before that. Then, when they are at the house, Joanna is cuddling his body. They were surprised the old lady came around again as they thought they'd be on their own and Joanna vomited due to the shock of their situation. Although if this is the case why you would cover it up I don't know - surely that just makes things worse in the long run??

Alistair is a grade A arsehole. End of.

abacucat · 01/10/2018 17:08

Yes if she had posted on MN, she would have been told to LTB

youarenotkiddingme · 01/10/2018 17:29

My guess is Dad killed baby but will frame his XW to get custody of his daughter!

Random!

abacucat · 01/10/2018 17:32

They make it clear that Alistair did nothing when his wife took his DD to Australia. And that now he could only get her back two years later by showing that his wife was unfit to care for his DD. But he is treating her like a possession.

SoupDragon · 01/10/2018 17:36

My guess is Dad killed baby

But how? I can’t see how either of them could have done it given the time frame shown in the car and the shop. Have I missed something?

SoupDragon · 01/10/2018 17:36

I do think the father is the “baddie” though, I just can’t work out how.

SoupDragon · 01/10/2018 17:38

I don't think Alistair was in court, so the trial could well be about attacking or killing him

Actually, that did occur to me too. There’s some kind of twist to what is being shown anyway.

Squidgee · 01/10/2018 18:36

im in the camp of baby is dead from mixed meds on the plane and they're trying to cover it up having thought about it.

KittyLane1 · 01/10/2018 19:34

I think Ali killed Noah, accidently or otherwise and is letting Joanna believe it was her so she will comply, she will trust him to "spin it" ( like when he asked her to cry on tv)

I think he manipulates or threatens Alex into helping him cover it up, maybe by promising she can keep Chloe if she burries the body ?

Bestseller · 01/10/2018 20:11

If Alistair is as high profile in his job as it appears, wouldn't it be common knowledge that he was married?

LuluJakey1 · 01/10/2018 20:40

Kitty I think you are right. He is a manipulator and will be 'staging' the aftermath of the baby's death to ensure he gets what he wants.

theredjellybean · 01/10/2018 21:04

I thought the Meds mixed up or maybe she gave the baby a tiny dose of her dihydrocodeine to stop him crying. But the baby was definitely alive when they were landing in Melbourne and she woke up
I flew with a 7 month old and the stewards asked me to make her stop crying as people were trying to sleep.
I had been awake for about 20hrs at this point and thrust my daughter at the air stewardess and said 'you try'.. So I think Joanna 's reaction was great on the plane.
I travelled from Australia a lot and never had a helpful are steward or stewardess

PiggyPoos · 01/10/2018 21:22

I find this rather upsetting because I had a little crush on Alasdair when he was in Top
Of the lake and now he's a wanker.

Thought it portrayed well how little snidey comments from random people can chip away at someone struggling with a baby like she seemed to be.

I don't know how she's have had time to do anything to the baby tbh, but we will see.

Her two face face fingers was a bit bonkers.

PiggyPoos · 01/10/2018 21:23

That's awful jellybean, I was watching that and wondering if people would really be such asshats.

Wingedharpy · 01/10/2018 21:41

I too think that Dad killed baby accidentally due to drug mix up.
Baby was alive when they landed but died en route to house they were staying in.
Dad pressurised Joanna into not reporting it due to adverse publicity which could impact on his wish to take his daughter back to UK.
Joanna went along with it as she's half crazy with sleep deprivation and possibly PND.
Either:
She killed Dad in UK once they returned with his daughter or,
She killed Dad in Australia and was supported in leaving by ex-wife.

Why the trial is in UK if it's the 2nd option - I have no idea!
(is it a trial we're watching or some sort of hearing to decide if she's mentally up to being extradited for
trial in Australia?)
Is she in some sort of secure mental health facility?

FlamingJuno · 01/10/2018 21:41

I had a baby that cried all the time and found it almost unbearable to watch. I'm in the camp with those who think Alistair killed the baby, threw her under the bus to save himself and she subsequently killed him, which is why she's on trial. There's lots of McCann / Lindy Chamberlain dingo baby references.

I think it'll turn out to be very sad in that he was a difficult baby but she loved him and didn't want him to come to harm.

whenskiesaregreyRETURNS · 01/10/2018 21:41

I'm rewatching this on iplayer to see what I may have missed

Em308 · 01/10/2018 21:47

If the ex-wife is being called as a witness she wouldn't be sat watching the trial, she wouldn't be allowed.

whenskiesaregreyRETURNS · 01/10/2018 21:56

Original arrest and photos were made by British police.

whenskiesaregreyRETURNS · 01/10/2018 22:38

I think her buying the tampons is an excuse for her to get out of the car because 'only she would know she needed them'.

whenskiesaregreyRETURNS · 01/10/2018 22:41

What's the reference to the blue dress when about to go on TV?

PrincessScarlett · 01/10/2018 22:50

I presumed the reference to the blue dress was another aspect

PrincessScarlett · 01/10/2018 22:52

Sorry, posted too soon. Was another angle to his controlling behaviour in that he told her what to wear in their relationship.

EvePolastri · 01/10/2018 23:03

I think I'm going to watch it again on Saturday when I'm next off work

I bet I missed loads

StripySocksAndDocs · 01/10/2018 23:13

What an intolerable foul man he is. Totally self-centered. Not sure how it would be misinterpreted that he actually wasn't. Not with sleeping the entire flight. I mean we might have been mislead were to to her, 'please Joanna', to get out of bed because he'd been up 5 times already (doubt it, she told her friend otherwise).

Yes, the baby made no sound from near end of flight and any time in Australia. There does seem an element of Joanna being easily manipulated (the very fact she continued in a relationship - or started one timeline doesn't easily allow us to know how far into their relationship they were, but it seemed just at the very start - Joanna remained with him despite him bringing her to his martial home and not giving two hoots his daughter walked in).
