What did she keep swigging on the plane?

thecatsthecats · 01/10/2018 09:53

My mum and sister used to have screaming, shrieking rows when I was a kid. If I even think about screaming like that my throat tightens in response.

The wife - Alexandra - said something cryptic on the phone to Joanna.

"Now you've got a baby you know..."

I got a feeling they were trying to imply two different things there:

  1. That Joanna was possibly feeling detached from her baby and wished it would disappear.
  2. That Alex was leaving unspoken "... you know how much of a useless twat he is when you have a baby with this man, why would I leave my daughter with him."
thaegumathteth · 01/10/2018 09:54

Yes @EvePolastri that’s what I thought about the tampons too

Mummyme87 · 01/10/2018 09:59

I think she left the baby somewhere and he was never in the car in the first place

ArtemisWeatherwax · 01/10/2018 10:02

I am very much hoping the trial in the UK is for the murder of her knobhead husband.

PrincessScarlett · 01/10/2018 10:13

Yes, Joanna is showing great restraint in not having killed Alistair in episode 1!

Part of me thinks they are showing Alistair in such an unsavoury light so we all automatically hate him and think he's the villain when in fact it will turn out to be the opposite.

ArtemisWeatherwax · 01/10/2018 10:41

Or it'll be like Keeping Faith where no one ended up caring what actually happened to Evan.

Clawdy · 01/10/2018 12:21

Irritating though Alistair is, I really don't see him as a baby-killer.

SadieLancaster · 01/10/2018 12:32

Ok I’ve read the book now and also watched episode 1.

So obvs the tv adaptation is going to be more of a what happened/whodunnit whereas the book makes the main event clearer right from the start.

I sobbed at the end of the book and I’ve now downloaded a couple of titles by the same author. Impressed.

CoolCarrie · 01/10/2018 12:35

I think we are meant to think the husband is an arse, it’s the default position in dramas like this. We didn’t see the whole flight, maybe he had the baby earlier on and they were taking turns with him. The ex wife definitely wasn’t in the court in Glasgow I made a point of looking for her. I think she is dead and that’s what the court case is about.

EvePolastri · 01/10/2018 12:53

I was sure I hadn't seen her too!

placemats · 01/10/2018 12:54

The husband is an arse. End off. No meaning about it.

He. IS. An. ARSE.

troodiedoo · 01/10/2018 13:21

if anyone knows what happens please can they pm me and tell me? I'm mildly curious but cba to watch it again.

zen1 · 01/10/2018 13:23

One of my DC had 2 teeth fully through at 3 months! You could see them coming at 6 weeks.

Bellatrix17 · 01/10/2018 14:27

@troodiedoo

I will! I’ve read the book and it’s very good - although I can see why they’ve done it slightly differently, the book gives 80% of it away at the start!

Ladygaladriel · 01/10/2018 14:33

I don’t think she is standing trial relating to the disappearance of the baby. The psychiatrist said something like ‘despite her past trauma she knows what is happening today’ I took that to mean the past trauma was a separate thing to the trial.

PrincessScarlett · 01/10/2018 14:39

Did we see Alistair in court? Maybe she's killed him?

4forkssake · 01/10/2018 14:56

wouldn't the baby have had to be shown to the customers officials along side the passport? It'd have taken some doing to show noah sleeping in a sling or in a pram & pass him off as being alive if they'd overdosed him?! Loving the theories though.

Gersemi · 01/10/2018 15:33

I don't think Alistair was in court, so the trial could well be about attacking or killing him, which could explain why it's in the UK. Though it would be quite unusual -but not impossible - for the accused to be out on bail on a murder charge.

flopsyrabbit1 · 01/10/2018 15:39

wow this is a fast thread for TV programme

shame its not on tonight, love the different take on it from others

thecatsthecats · 01/10/2018 15:42

despite her past trauma she knows what is happening today

Speaking of which her mum died when she was 15. Possibly something there.

If she's there because she killed Alastair, then her calm state in the trial and the psychiatrist's office might be explained. She's not defensive, guilty or hysterical because she is perfectly content with the action she took!

Lndnmummy · 01/10/2018 16:22

I started watching it but had to turn it off. It’s so raw with me. I started crying and I’m still crying now. I will record and watch it on a few months

Figgygal · 01/10/2018 16:47

Utterly hated the Pig fiancée everything was about him and what he wanted

Couldn't bare the baby crying like that he was so small Sad

abacucat · 01/10/2018 16:48

Late to this thread.
But the Husband is totally awful. I felt sorry for Joanne. She seemed naive, exhausted and isolated. When she went into the shop, my DP shouted out - what about the baby. I could imagine she would leave him in the car if he was sleeping, she would not want to wake him and risk him crying. And if the car had central locking, he probably had the keys and she could not lock the car. I could also see why she would think in a small place like that he would be safe. It was not a good decision, but she is exhausted and sleep deprivation does affect your thinking.
I think the way she reacted was very realistic. She seemed in utter disbelief, like it was not really happening.
So not convinced that she is guilty, but will wait and see.

abacucat · 01/10/2018 16:49

I did not think it was realistic that the Air Hostess would speak to her negatively about the babies crying though.
