What was the dodgy deal with the bloke in the rain all about also? Was it something to do with keeping his links with Andy quiet?

KnotsInMay · 16/09/2018 23:08

what if the person who is supposed to protect you is your biggest threat?".
Police
Security Services
The army
Your mate and colleague
Etc
Or most chillingly
Your Dad

FloralBunting · 16/09/2018 23:08

Graphista, no, I don't think I have seen Arlington Road. Honestly, I'm so used to clever twists I'm not sure if I've spoiled myself for basic storylines. I think I will be disappointed if there isn't a proper, eyebrows-popping-off-my-forehead shocker.

I still think there's definitely something to the UntrustworthySlash thing. His animosity towards the Home Secretary, the conversation with Nadia on the train, the talk of being the one right next to the people responsible for war - the dead assassin telling him he needs to follow through with the task or mission or something, can't recall the exact wording, but there was also the suddenly going to that meeting with assassin man who said he hadn't seen him for ages; an interesting thing to do at that stage, the rapport he has with Nadia, particularly the slightly leading questioning and the mega eye-contact.

The human 'I fancy Richard Madden so I'd like him to be the good guy' part of me doesn't like it, but the seasoned twisty thriller watcher in me has alarm bells going off all over the place.

TweeBee · 16/09/2018 23:09

Dory she would give an easy excuse wouldn't she? Somehow in on it in my opinion....
Can't wait for next week!

DeRigueurMortis · 16/09/2018 23:09

That would be a plot twist I suppose.

We all think Julia isn't/wasn't dangerous - we've sort of been lulled into thinking that she was probably ok (if very ambitious).

What if Budd discovers that she actually was for example in cahoots with the SS in setting up the train/school bombings to further her career and their relationship was to draw him in and thus be used as a patsy.

Thus she endangered him and his family.

KnotsInMay · 16/09/2018 23:12

Brett: he was buying / ordering a gun.

We assume to see where Andy sourced his.

But sadly he is setting himself up. The gun will be delivered, will be intractable just like Andy’s, and at that moment the link between him and Andy will be discovered an lo and behold the Ss will find the gun in his tardis like boiler.

( he really will have an accident with a gas boiler if he keeps stuffing stuff in there!)

DeRigueurMortis · 16/09/2018 23:12

Sorry meant about the tag line - so that's basically a twist from the start.

We assume the person "whose supposed to protect you" and is duplicitous is Budd, but it's actually Julia.

TweeBee · 16/09/2018 23:13

And someone was asking for this
www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2018/sep/16/bodyguard-recap-series-one-episode-five-the-calm-before-the-storm

Really hope the kids aren't involved next week!

FloralBunting · 16/09/2018 23:13

DeRigueur, quite. I've been saying since it started, Who is fucking whom?

Charley50 · 16/09/2018 23:16

Shit. Slept the whole way through.

Yellowsunredroses · 16/09/2018 23:17

Why does Dave want the psl? Which i think someone said is a long range shooting gun.

I agree longcross gave the material - why then kill her to keep it quiet?

So longcross and ss on Julia’s side as they were to get more power

Longcross set up Nadia bomb to aid ripa going through too - did they mean for him to foil it tho? Maybe they’d infiltrated and the bomb was actually a dud?

The shooter on the roof we know his motivate but who gave him the leak?

Chanel def leaked the kids school details as I’m sure she’s the one that arrNged the special school. Julia knew she was the leak and why she fired her - although was she fired before the car shooting can’t remember?

His boss and Anne are def dodgy

Charley50 · 16/09/2018 23:18

I'll watch tomoz.

Yellowsunredroses · 16/09/2018 23:18

Could Julia still be in cahoots with her ex? Want to put him in power??

DickensianHysteric · 16/09/2018 23:22

I keep thinking that the last thing Julia said to David about wanting them to be together because they chose to be, was really strange and jarring. There was no suggestion that they were in love, they'd never discussed the future of their relationship. And, you know, he'd tried to strangle her. It just seemed to come out of nowhere. Confused

Yellowsunredroses · 16/09/2018 23:23

Dicken - I think she knew about the bomb and that he’d be sacked

Yellowsunredroses · 16/09/2018 23:23

But didn’t expect it to be so bad

FloralBunting · 16/09/2018 23:27

Oh and aside from conspiracy and plotting, can I just say how much I am enjoying Madden's acting. The intensity, the coldness, the fake casual flirting, the genuine flashes of constrained grief. I particularly enjoyed the bit in the interview with Nadia, when the assassin's picture was being shown to her, and Budd's face was impassive and showing calm concern, but his hand was held in a clench he was doing his best to disguise, but the viewer could see all his tension being focused on that clenched hand. Superb stuff.

DeRigueurMortis · 16/09/2018 23:31

I think Julia and SS are responsible for the bombs on the train/school. They cut a deal that if she gave them more power they'd give her the intel to topple the PM for her to take his place.

Budd's ex-Army mate made the bombs having been manipulated by the SS (probably working with the criminal mafia) not realising the agenda they would be used for. Realised what's happened and that's why he tried to kill Julia and told Budd to finish his work.

I think the criminal mafia (who Channel is involved with) planted the bomb that killed Julia (they had access to the bombs because they'd been used by the SS as intermediaries between the ex-army guy) and the inside person in the police is Tom (who is also Vicky's new boyfriend).

I've also changed my mind again, I think Julia is alive (guarded by the SS) and we find she's a nasty piece of work and has played Budd from the beginning and in the end he has to "really" kill her.

However I'm most likely wrong!

MamOfTwo · 16/09/2018 23:33

Enjoying this series a lot but need to read this thread and Guardian blog afterwards to check exactly what is going on! Was bothering me where I had seen Rob McDonald before but realised tonight it is same guy who plays Kevin in Motherland!

Graphista · 16/09/2018 23:34

"I'm not sure if I've spoiled myself for basic storylines." Know the feeling! I watched the whole of season 1 of dr foster expecting a clever twist and it was just banal!

"Thus she endangered him and his family." Would certainly explain his "fuck this!" Reaction he seems to be having in next episode. He thought he had it sussed and now realises he knows nothing? That the people he thinks are the good guys patently aren't, that maybe he was less cynical than he thought?

"The shooter on the roof we know his motivate but who gave him the leak?" Excellent point

KnotsInMay · 16/09/2018 23:36

Nobody ever eats anything in this series. Not since the takeaway.

Yellowsunredroses · 16/09/2018 23:44

De I like your theories!

Yy and Vicky and David will realise they’ve been played and get back together

KnotsInMay · 16/09/2018 23:54

I realise I have been hearing SlashDave’s boss in my head as Haddock, not Craddock, all series.
