Oh this series has been SO good! So many twists- I too was wondering why they didn't just finish David off....I think the guy driving the Land Rover is the same guy at the veteran's meeting. Also think he might be the blacksmith in Jamestown ( Sophie Rundle was in Jamestown too...? Grin

FloralBunting · 16/09/2018 22:39

I don't know if anyone's seen the film No Way Out, but it's twist upon twist, and I'm getting the same sort of vibe from this now.

I think Budd has a hand on the tail of the wolf, so to speak, and is at the moment appearing to be the wounded lover seeking justice and vengeance. But the wolf is about to turn and bite him - he's running out of time before they link him to the dead attempted assassin at the very least. At which point he's the patsy completely.

I can't help asking myself if he's at the eye of a storm he didn't intend - but that he's got a whole other agenda beyond what we've seen.

I can't go too much into why No Way Out is making me think this, because it would give away the big shock plot spoiler. But if you've seen it and know what I mean by Yuri, then let me know!!

And then I take a breath and think, one episode to go, I bet there won't be any more twists and all the cleverest theories will end up being far more interesting that what actually happens.

DickensianHysteric · 16/09/2018 22:39

Paddington, I assumed that the USB he took out of the hiding place in the boiler was the same one that had been in the light fitting and he'd moved it like he'd previously moved the gun.
Of course there could still be a different USB up in the light fitting waiting to be found...

DoryNow · 16/09/2018 22:40

it was def Tom his DC who worked alongside Kim the 3 of them on the Protection Detaill with Dave being the PPO, & Tom reported his concenrs about Daves MH to the boss.

wineusuallyhelps · 16/09/2018 22:40

Did somebody upthread wonder if Budd is responsible?

I'm thinking why is it relevant he's got PTSD and is angry at decisions made by government re. combat/war etc - and was friends with the shooter guy - if he ended up putting all that aside, shagging her and then having feelings for her when she died? Is this the big twist - that he's in on it? Whatever "it" is? My mind is boggling.

Also I don't know why it's in the storyline that his ex wife has another partner that kept being mentioned, but we've never seen him/her and that hasn't come to anything.

So many red herrings...?

PaddingtonBearHardStare · 16/09/2018 22:41

Dickensian do we know what's on it though??

SavageBeauty73 · 16/09/2018 22:41

@FloralBunting ohhh I love No Way Out. Good point. I get what you mean

DoryNow · 16/09/2018 22:42

think Julia is most likely dead but the only thing now giving me a small amount of hope is the big deal they made of her having a ‘small private funeral’. Clue?!?! Wouldn’t she have had a bigger sending off given her status and the circumstances of her death?

YES! I was thinking this, doesn't add up.

Next weeks ep is 75 minutes long so a big finale....eeek.

DickensianHysteric · 16/09/2018 22:43

Paddington the USB from the boiler had the recordings he made of Julia's secret meetings, including the one where Longcross gave her the tablet.

DeRigueurMortis · 16/09/2018 22:45

I'm not convinced by the Yuri analogy tbh.

I think the insider is likely to be Tom or Kim.

ElenaGreco123 · 16/09/2018 22:46

Roger Penhaligon is MP for Surrey North. It is not a real constituency, but the sitting MP for Surrey Heath is Michael Gove.
I know it is no help, but I am checking out all clues.

tribpot · 16/09/2018 22:47

The USB, along with an increasingly large amount of contraband, is now hidden in the boiler. The USB contains recordings of the HS through the wall that Slash made with what appeared to be a stethoscope when they were in the hotel together.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 16/09/2018 22:47

I think i suggested from the first shag that her hotel room would have been bugged

DoryNow · 16/09/2018 22:50

Anyone got the link to the Guardian recap that usually appears about now? Can't find it. Grin

KnotsInMay · 16/09/2018 22:50

But if the SS killed Julia and are on the side of the PM (alongside Roger, who is in cahoots with the SS) why did the SS give Julia the material with which to blackmail the PM?

FloralBunting · 16/09/2018 22:50

I'm not convinced by the Yuri thing necessarily, but it just feels like there is something else bubbling under the surface that could jump out and slap us in the chops in the last half hour next week.

NorthernLurker · 16/09/2018 22:52

There's no way she's dead. If she was dead we would have seen that. Instead we saw her alive. I'm kind of hoping Kim is still alive tbh. The whole college bomb was a red herring. Julia is waiting for David to crack it/admit to his own dodgy links. Then she will come back from the dead, reveal all she knows about the PM and assume power....leaving David in a total mess

Urbanbeetler · 16/09/2018 22:54

I agree it seems odd that no one has connected slash Dave to the Sniper through regiments/time in Afghanistan.

I am flummoxed as to why Nadia and her husband were being manipulated into setting of a bomb in a train by the secret service. That would support Julia. Was Slash Dave supposed to be there to disarm Nadia or was that a coincident?

Is Chanal who is really Sam actually a Samia - a Muslim Terrorist?

Will it climax in slash Daves kids being taken hostage?

And I still think Julia is alive! Maybe she was behind the whole thing.

Graphista · 16/09/2018 22:54

CoolCarrie - umm yea I knew that 😂😂 combining the Machiavellian character she plays in that to the simplicity of JB Fletcher with clear denouement scripting (and frankly viewer spoon feeding plots).

"I don't know if anyone's seen the film No Way Out, but it's twist upon twist" one of my favourite films. Now to have a similar twist finale here would be HUGE! Do you mean like 'is David Mohammed?' Be a bit 'homeland' too wouldn't it?

"he's running out of time before they link him to the dead attempted assassin at the very least. At which point he's the patsy completely." Have you seen Arlington road?

KittyOSullivanKrauss · 16/09/2018 22:55

The tag for the series was something along the lines of "what if the person who is supposed to protect you is your biggest threat?". I've wondered what this might mean over the past few weeks, and whether it means David has been the threat all along. Now I think its referring to Tom, but no idea what his motive might be.

David is going to be royally fucked when the connection to Andrew is revealed (surely it must come out). It might be the piece of information that frames him.

FogCutter · 16/09/2018 23:00

I'm also wondering why Dave isn't more concerned about Vicky and his kids given Longcross visited her at work and the 'safe house' was searched by people Dave thinks are somehow involved in the case.

I definitely think her new partner is connected in some way and wonder why Dave hasn't asked her anything about him- especially given how dangerous the situation is, how his kids seem to have been targeted and how info Vicky knows about has been leaked (she was the only one who knew he had self harmed and this info made its way back to his boss- could this be via her boyfriend/ Tom?).

I actually cannot sleep now trying to work it all out!

DoryNow · 16/09/2018 23:01

Urban

Is Chanal who is really Sam actually a Samia - a Muslim Terrorist? She told Dave she used Sam when they asked her name for the coffee cup, as it was easier to spell.

NorthernLurker · 16/09/2018 23:02

I think it means Julia. She's supposed to protect us but she's actually totally sociopathic.

Mrsmadevans · 16/09/2018 23:02

What is a PSL ? I am racking my brains Smile

KnotsInMay · 16/09/2018 23:05

Supreme moment;
Rob: “we are politicians, not murderers”
Close up of SlashDaves face with the slightest ghost of a reaction.
Given his Afghanistan experience.

And yes, ‘relaxed flirting ‘ with ChanelSam was definitely an act, not once has he appeared actually relaxed , or shown any emotion whatsoever.
