Well ... I thought the first LOD series was ‘about’ the Lennie James character - until the final episode. But it wasn’t. Bodyguard could essentially be about the various governmental services and the people who intersect with them.

IntentsAndPorpoises · 25/09/2018 12:06

@southeastdweller but he's done that before. They could have a second series with deepak and Louise.

prh47bridge · 25/09/2018 12:24

Though I don’t quite see why, logically, they couldn’t have let him defuse the bomb first and then go to his flat. Credulity stretched for the sake of plot.

They could have but at that point he was in control of the situation because his wife was standing next to him, taking away the option of shooting him as she would be killed in the explosion. He was therefore able to decide what happened. It was his choice to go to the flat before the bomb was defused. His motives in doing so seem to be to ensure they didn't shoot him when his wife moved to safety as he was no longer in an open space, and to give himself the opportunity to escape when the bomb was defused.

SoupDragon · 25/09/2018 12:27

The titular character dying would have meant no second series

The title is just Bodyguard - it could be any bodyguard.

I have to say that I didn’t find the bomb vest sequence very tense for the same reason though

southeastdweller · 25/09/2018 12:49

It could be but it wouldn’t be the same, would it? A lot of the marketing (and casting, perhaps) was based on Richard Madden’s appeal. Similarly in episode one, I knew his character wouldn’t die because of the train bomb.

vjg13 · 25/09/2018 13:08

Disappointing ending especially with the baddie confessing everything. Very Scobby Doo!

Jux · 25/09/2018 13:32

Quatermiss, not the only one by any means. We were on the point of death by boredom when she was got rid of and the whole thing perked up.

Gersemi · 25/09/2018 15:26

Because there was no tension involved. He was never going to die.

He might well have. Mercurio has a track record of having no compunction about killing off important characters.

And Mercurio really doesn't have to worry about a second series. Anything he chooses to write will be snapped up, will have brilliant actors fighting to be in it, and will attract a very large audience. I don't think he's that dependent on Richard Madden, who, rightly or wrongly, comes over as a bit wooden and is nothing like as charismatic a lead character as, for instance, Aiden Turner.

PhyllisDietrichson · 25/09/2018 16:43

Sorry if it's been said but why did Jihaddy Jane not trip the switch in Ep 1, she had every reason; and being in custody's not going to help her cause?

prh47bridge · 25/09/2018 16:56

She chickened out.

PhyllisDietrichson · 25/09/2018 17:30

No but she was faking it, she was hard as nails!

HannahnotAgnes · 25/09/2018 17:39

I thought it was great & loved the ending.

diddl · 25/09/2018 17:59

"Well ... I thought the first LOD series was ‘about’ the Lennie James character - until the final episode."

Maybe there was initially only going to be the one series?

QuaterMiss · 25/09/2018 18:04

Possibly. I can’t remember the interviews/chatter at the time. But it’s precisely those stunningly unexpected shifts in focus that distinguish JM’s stories. When we find we’ve been looking in the wrong place and things turn from a personal story into a state of the nation type thing.

CoughArghCoughArghCough · 25/09/2018 19:13

Question! Totally not plot related, but how did they film SlashDave and gun toting entourage (fictionally) walking down a London street in a bomb vest without anyone seeing the filming (in real life) and posting a spoiler on (real life) social media? I thought they must have done it early in the morning but if anyone saw that from any of those buildings and filmed it, surely they’d put two and two together and some point and put something on Twitter? How? And if you woke up and saw that out of your window you would surely cack yourself? It’s really bothering me.

Suburban can we have a timeshare deal on Daniel Chung. So calm, so handsome and would only walk away when things were literally explosive Grin

KnotsInMay · 25/09/2018 19:23

CoughCough: sane way they film you ‘flying’ on a broomstick in the Harry Potter experience. Film the actors in front of a green screen and then overlay it on a film of a London Street.

prh47bridge · 25/09/2018 19:58

No but she was faking it, she was hard as nails

In her confession she said she had atoned for her failure to detonate the bomb on the train. I stand by my view that she chickened out.

Elderflower14 · 25/09/2018 20:09

I watched the end again earlier. Nice to watch it without the fear of them going bang!

LostInShoebiz · 25/09/2018 21:23

Filming usually takes place insanely early and under a different name, not that it would matter months and months in advance for a new show like Bodyguard with no existing following. A lot of filming goes on in the City of London at the weekend when it’s dead. A few months ago we actually walked right through the set of a Ryan Reynolds movie.

LostInShoebiz · 25/09/2018 21:25

Also, v surprised at all the people in the press saying the nice tidy ending was a cop out. Clearly they’ve never seen another JM show. Best thing about LoD is the little text update at the end: Kate’s got a promotion, the villain is in prison for life and so on.

CaledonianSleeper · 25/09/2018 21:29

Is there going to be a season 2?
There has been filming again in the last few weeks at one of the locations where series 1 was filmed (Budd’s offices). So I assume they’re already making series 2.

LostInShoebiz · 25/09/2018 21:34

Exciting!

Elderflower14 · 25/09/2018 21:40

I heard on the radio the other day that the writer won't make another BG until he's finished another LOD.

LostInShoebiz · 25/09/2018 21:54

LoD is pretty much done if they’re filming episode 3 of 6. Could it mean a new series? immediately starts praying for new new series

Jux · 25/09/2018 22:22

So is LoD good then? I never saw it - in fact, had to Google LoD to find out what it was Blush
