Really hoping Series 2 opens with Budd being interviewed by Ted from LoD! ‘Ah c’mon David, we both know that sounds a bit far-fetched.’ Also, having navigated such a convoluted plot line to break in and replace live rounds with blanks, and to manufacture a highly complex and sensitive bomb, it was schoolboy fingerprints and Nadiya’s DNA that pinned them. Gloves, anyone?

SnipSnipMisterBurgess · 24/09/2018 22:42

Bring back paragraphs!

Missushb · 24/09/2018 23:45

So..was the 1st October train incident a set up to reel Budd in so be would be put on the home secretary's security detail?

Egghead68 · 25/09/2018 00:38

No

incywincybitofa · 25/09/2018 00:43

I was really disappointed by the end it was all a bit flat.

Gersemi · 25/09/2018 07:35

How could anyone have found the entire bomb vest sequence "a bit flat"?

southeastdweller · 25/09/2018 07:38

Because there was no tension involved. He was never going to die.

QuaterMiss · 25/09/2018 07:51

I felt it was entirely possible that he might die - leading to extraordinary revelations that would throw the focus onto someone else. This is, after all, the writer of LOD. But the story as told was utterly gripping - and such a neat turn-around after all the chasing and snooping and focus on him looking potential baddies - to suddenly find him still and everyone looking at him ... It was brilliant. (Though I don’t quite see why, logically, they couldn’t have let him defuse the bomb first and then go to his flat. Credulity stretched for the sake of plot. Great though!

grumiosmum · 25/09/2018 07:54

I thought the series was a bit meh. The set pieces were great - full of tension; but the plot was too complicated & had too many holes in it, and stretched credulity too far. And there wasn't enough character development. Found Budd's multiple police colleagues very confusing.

Or that could be the opener for the new series of LoD!

PaddingtonBearHardStare · 25/09/2018 08:13

Bold fail!!

SuburbanCrofter · 25/09/2018 08:41

Definitely needs more Daniel Chung in the next series. I want him to follow me around all day and calmly tell me how to do my life Grin

QuaterMiss · 25/09/2018 08:50

Now, that would be living ...

QuaterMiss · 25/09/2018 08:55

Not sure I’ve ever seen a better portrayal of combined intellect, empathy and bravery on TV. (Has he been in anything I should watch?)

Sidge · 25/09/2018 09:14

I really enjoyed it. The vest scene was tense because it wasn't beyond the realms of possibility that SlashDave got blown up - after all JM had already killed off a principal character.

Sidge · 25/09/2018 09:16

Argh why don't I have paragraphs? Anyway despite some artistic license I found it compelling. I did hold my breath at the end wondering if the car would blow up!!

Sidge · 25/09/2018 09:17

Oh and I think many of you will really enjoy this!! Great tweets about Bodyguard

DontCallMeCharlotte · 25/09/2018 10:56

So disappointed that car didn't blow up. Talk about a damp squib.

Clawdy · 25/09/2018 10:59

Can't believe people wanted the whole family, including two children, to be blown up ! Sad

DontCallMeCharlotte · 25/09/2018 11:05

Well of course I didn't.

But equally, I was disappointed that it had such a corny ending. Normally, these series have highly unsatisfactory endings because of what you don't know (The Missing 1, Keeping Faith etc) but this was the other way around, we were spoonfed everything and then they delivered a happy Hollywood ending which really didn't tie up with the angsty feel of the rest of the series.

QuaterMiss · 25/09/2018 11:13

Mmm ... Except it was only a happy beginning ... There’ll be so much in the next series to perturb the fragile peace. Assuming the next series is about David Budd. He may be too busy filming Bond ...

DontCallMeCharlotte · 25/09/2018 11:19

Ah now, I see your point but no, it was a happy ending for me as I won't be watching again. Fail to see how they can make another series to be honest.

Whole thing left me a bit cold (and that was even with my beloved Keeley in it).

PollyFlinderz · 25/09/2018 11:24

It’s not real. But that said I have a horrible feeling about them driving off like that and I wouldn’t be surprised if the next series starts with something happening to the car.

QuaterMiss · 25/09/2018 11:26

I’m possibly the only person on Earth who liked the show better after Julia stopped being in it. Hated the drab, safe hotel, her drab, safe clothes and ponderous character. Everything was lighter and zippier without her!

southeastdweller · 25/09/2018 11:40

The titular character dying would have meant no second series which is something the writer would have an eye on. So I felt that protracted scene was about as tense as watching an episode of Toosy and Tim.
