Had guessed wrongly Gina McKee was a wrong 'un.

Oh, no, she IS (or has been in the past, at least). She's been involved in covering up or colluding with organised crime.

I love her and her grim visage and her perma-polonecks. I want her to have her own series.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 24/09/2018 12:53

Although I was frustrated that yet again the Muslim character was a terrorist (I guess 30 years ago they would have been Irish) I was taken by the high powered women (and men) making the assumption that Nadia was a put upon Muslim wife being told what to do and having to obey.

Loved that she turned that on its head “no I am an engineer”....go Nadia.

RandomlyChosenName · 24/09/2018 12:57

I don't get Nadia masterminding everything from jail.

How was she making bombs for money and delivering them around whilst in custody? I know security in prisons can sometimes be a little lax, but surely nothing like that extent that would be needed to run a bomb making business and especially not with a suicide bomber...

And why did she want to bomb Slash's children anyway? Revenge for being stopped?

TheVonTrappFamilySwingers · 24/09/2018 12:57

While I enjoyed watching I thought the end just didn't make sense.

Why would organised crime want to kill Julia Montague in order to halt the RIPA thing? Because RIPA gave greater covert access via secret services and organised crime preferred power to remain the in the hands of (corruptible) police. Buuuut, by killing JM surely that gives greater reason for parliament to pass RIPA, as the public could demand greater security etc etc, so surely would have the end result the crime syndicates didn't want??? And, once they had killed JM why bother framing anyone? Because surely at that point they had done their job. By framing Budd, again they are pushing power to SS as people could argue police were incompetent etc etc.

I am overthinking this Grin

MargoLovebutter · 24/09/2018 13:02

TheVon I keep getting stuck on the logic of it all too!!!!!! I couldn't bloody sleep last night for running through it all in my head, convinced I was missing something and came to the conclusion I was a bit of a dimwit, but actually I think the plot may have been a bit holey!

Whatthefoxgoingon · 24/09/2018 13:07

The plot is more than holey. Making bombs is very dangerous and you’d not want to waste your expert bomb maker when you could send any old terrorist to do it instead. Plus I’m pissed off at the old “ah look you all thought muslim women were weak and oppressed but they’re not aha!” thing again. Lazy stereotyping.

tribpot · 24/09/2018 13:15

Indeed the Nadia thing doesn't make a lot of sense. As you say, hackmum, first of all why would you use your expert bombmaker as a suicide bomber. Then let's suppose she decided to put it on when her husband didn't, or something (he seemed to have it when they got on the train?). Then Slash turns up and without blinking Nadia decides to play the victim, although for what purpose? Why not just blow herself up? She couldn't possibly expect to get out of jail or build any more bombs for the cause at that point, so why not go for it? Even if there was a specific target (maybe Euston?) and you weren't going to get there because the train was diverted, you could still cause some serious mayhem.

I also agree, I don't see how killing JM was really meant to kill RIPA. You needed to discredit the security services to do that, to have public opinion turn against greater surveillance.

In the bomb vest scene I was about 50:50 as to whether they'd off Slash as well and it would be a standalone series. V hard for the programme makers, who can't very well say 'we've decided this will be a one series thing' and have everyone go into overdrive assuming that means Slash Must Die. I think the jeopardy could have been higher, though, if they'd put Vicky in the vest. Actually keeping Julia alive and putting her in it would have been even better.

I love your '....... I was a bit of a dimwit but actually the plot may have been a bit holey.'
Love it - my sentiments too Smile

Graphista · 24/09/2018 13:19

But again - we're making assumptions. The only person who's word we've got re nadia being the mastermind - is nadia! A known terrorist/extremist already proven an unreliable narrator - that assumption could bite us on the arse in season 2.

I really struggle to see how people thought it was boring, I thought it was tense and well paced.

SirVixofVixHall · 24/09/2018 13:23

I don’t understand how the dead man’s switch thing hadn’t already gone off as David was unconscious ? Did I miss something ?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 24/09/2018 13:35

it must've been bloody strong masking tape keeping it down. But who fitted it? If it was so dangerous and needed a skilled bomb-maker, who actually handled it?

DarlingNikita · 24/09/2018 13:51

Is there going to be a season 2?

And why did she want to bomb Slash's children anyway? Revenge for being stopped? That's a good point. She didn't say/no one said why.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 24/09/2018 14:02

Ummmmm because she is a crazy bomber? He hugged her? Stopped her going to heaven and getting... 72 virgins (or whatever the female equivalent is. Probably 72 husbands socks to darn for eternity whilst they are off with the virgins).

dannydyerismydad · 24/09/2018 14:17

I enjoyed it. I found it tense and exciting. But it was a bit of a modern day Agatha Christie adaptation - lots of intrigue and red herrings, but as soon as the finger of blame is pointed the culprit confesses all. That would surely never happen.

catornot · 24/09/2018 14:18

Is there a season 2 planned?

FloralCup · 24/09/2018 14:18

Do we know why Kim ran up to the stage when JM was giving her speech? Was it just because she saw someone (Tahir?) walking towards JM?

QuaterMiss · 24/09/2018 14:30

Ah, thanks re location.

It’s true though, that if you’re a master bomb maker, you’d surely want to carry on enjoying the mastery of your craft. Definitely holey plotting.

DurtySarf · 24/09/2018 14:33

What I don't get is why the criminal kingpin was driving Chanel around. Surely he would get a minion to do that?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 24/09/2018 14:36

Maybe he is her boyfriend?

Gersemi · 24/09/2018 15:14

Surely you don't get whacked on the head so hard you're unconscious for some time then get up and start thinking.

I think with a bomb strapped round you, you start thinking pretty fast. Also, we don't know whether Dave was unconscious due slowly to the blow to the head, or whether the baddies used gas or something to keep him under whilst they put the bomb vest on.

Gersemi · 24/09/2018 15:18

David Budd was put in the PPO role because of the link to Andy the gunman not because of the bomb on the train. That just made it easier to move him.

What link? They didn't discover that he knew Andy until the last episode.

Andy knew about the link ...

DarlingNikita · 24/09/2018 15:28

Sorry, I'm being really dense but what link...?

Gersemi · 24/09/2018 15:30

How was she making bombs for money and delivering them around whilst in custody? I know security in prisons can sometimes be a little lax, but surely nothing like that extent that would be needed to run a bomb making business and especially not with a suicide bomber

She'd made the bombs before she was arrested, and she wasn't doing any of the deliveries.

And why did she want to bomb Slash's children anyway? Revenge for being stopped?

I'd guess that her co-conspirators wanted to send a message that you don't get away with frustrating their attempts at mass murder.

Gersemi · 24/09/2018 15:31

Nikita, the link between Dave and Andy.

DarlingNikita · 24/09/2018 15:49

Why/how did Andy and Dave knowing each other lead to Dave being put in the PPO role? At the start of the series no one except Andy and Dave knew about the link between them.
