Craddock ending was a damp squib for me. She hadn't been featured enough beforehand Imo. Got a bit bored with Slash and the bomb vest too.

Gersemi · 23/09/2018 23:54

I thought that long scene with the suicide vest was classic Mercurio and absolutely brilliant. It's reminiscent of the long interview scenes in Line of Duty. Very few writers would dare to write a scene where the tension goes on and on and on, and even fewer have the ability: most opt for either a series of quick crescendos to the conclusion, or leave it right to the end of an episode with, again, a last minute lead-in. People professing to be bored during that section have to have attention deficit problems.

SunsetOnTheHorizon · 23/09/2018 23:56

Wow! Just catched up on the last episode. Mind well and truly blown! The detonation scene had me glued! Budd crying at the end.... Had me going! What a drama!

Gersemi · 23/09/2018 23:57

I'm not sure that Nadya was meant to be a bombing mastermind, just someone who was good at making bombs. She has to have made them all in advance of the train bombing, and I'm not sure that it actually takes that much training to become a bomb maker as opposed to, say, a bomb defuser.

Urbanbeetler · 24/09/2018 00:24

Do you think the character Dave would have then gone on to tell his wife about his affair with Julia, or do you think he would bury that with her?

VanGoghsDog · 24/09/2018 00:38

@glamorousgrandmother. 'he' being who, exactly?

Defrack · 24/09/2018 00:38

I think she was the main bomb maker and therefore the leader of the group.
She built lots of bombs for subsequent attacks for the group to use in future.
She bottled blowing herself up, so played the sweet innocent pressuredmuslim women card.

That kind of explains why she had an appropriate adult. We were all asking why she needed one. It was to reinforce the stereotype that she is vulnerable and was forced and pressured. And by taking the appropriate adult away st the end he showed us that she can think for herself and isn't actually vulnerable.

I'm feeling a little chuffed I totally called the Nadia twist on the previous thread (although then I doubted it) - I'm usually completely oblivious to these things until they happen.

I'm going to have to rewatch it, I watched it an hour or so behind on catch up and I'm tired, so must have missed bits. I can't work out the timeline of when Nadia got into business with Luke; was it pre or post the October train attack-attempt?

VanGoghsDog · 24/09/2018 00:45

I don't think any discussion of what a suicide bomber or jihadi might do, should contain the word 'logical' or any claim it doesn't make sense. We can never understand that psyche.

palmfaceouch · 24/09/2018 00:54

I'm in love with Deepak I think 💭

PollyFlinderz · 24/09/2018 04:11

I felt unsettled by the last moment when we saw them going off in their car. I’m hoping it didn’t blow up when they drive round the corner and that’s what we’ll see in the next series.

tribpot · 24/09/2018 05:48

So I guess, among the many things we'll never get to understand, we'll never know why Kim ran towards the stage and why Slash apparently ran to intercept her. Do we think it was that she'd seen Tahir and feared the worst? What about new Home Sec telling Traitorous Rob telling him 'that's your story and you stick to it'? It featured in the 'previously' recap at the start of the episode and was never referred to again.

We never learnt who Charlotte Foxfield was, although the actual detail of the kompromat doesn't seem to have been the point. Not sure why you have wasted an actor like David Westhead in a role like the Prime Minister but then again that seems to be part of the Mercurio MO - keeps the audience guessing about which way the plot is going to go, as you assume person X can't die as why would the actor have turned up for a one episode part, etc.

Powergower · 24/09/2018 06:01

Both me and dh nodded off during the best scene. So bloody boring. It's pretty obvious they weren't going to kill him off so there was zero tension for us. In fact I thought the last 3 episodes were a crock of shit. And all that bloody fuss over longcross.... for nought.

Not believable at all that organised crime would kill the home sec. The ending was full of stereotypes and that bloody happy ending was a bit naff. Love Richard Madden though. The series went downhill as soon as home sec was killed off.

Elderflower14 · 24/09/2018 06:01

@Urbanbeetler. He DID tell his wife about Julia last week!

Urbanbeetler · 24/09/2018 06:08

Whoops missed that.

PollyFlinderz · 24/09/2018 06:24

The series went downhill as soon as home sec was killed off.

Yes. I agree.

MissMarplesKnitting · 24/09/2018 06:34

I'm still trying to work out security services involvement.

They gave Julia the kompromat.
They knew Budd was the fall guy.

Why would they give her the kompromat when it implicated the head of the security services? Or was it that the HOSS was in on it with Craddock? In which case, why did they give Julia the tablet with the kompromat on?!!!

Was the HOSS trying to oust the PM?

Comenext · 24/09/2018 06:35

I clapped when Longcross got a face full of
Was it acid?

sofato5miles · 24/09/2018 06:36

That was a ball tearer! SlashDave is a great character and I thought he was an emotional actor. Bit disappointed that he got back with Vicky, but for the probable best think he goes better with an older woman Wink

Also called the Luke connection but missed the Nadia evil mastermind bit.

Gersemi · 24/09/2018 06:39

So I guess, among the many things we'll never get to understand, we'll never know why Kim ran towards the stage and why Slash apparently ran to intercept her.

I never thought Slash was trying to intercept her, I thought he ran because she did: he ran to help her because he assumed she'd seen something dangerous. I also assumed she ran because she saw Tahir.

Gersemi · 24/09/2018 06:42

Did the compromat implicate the Head of Security? I don't recall hearing that, but I could have missed something. I thought it implicated only the PM, but that the HOS had to resign because Julia could only have got the material from his service. They wanted her to oust the PM because she favoured them over the police.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 24/09/2018 07:14

On a separate note it would be good to see a Muslim character who isn’t a terrorist for once,.

However Anjli Mohindra was brilliant as Nadia but not sure Sarah-Jane (Sarah-Jane Adventures) would approve. Wink.

Believeitornot · 24/09/2018 07:17

Sleeping on it I still think this was good.

Looking back the Nadia twist made sense - they didn’t know which school the kids were in hence the chatter at first about possible schools.

I’m still left with the question mark about Sampson and the criminals - Deepak was suspicious about her as well. That kind of whimpered away.

David Budd was put in the PPO role because of the link to Andy the gunman not because of the bomb on the train. That just made it easier to move him.

Slash Dave shagged JM for the same reason she shagged him. Lonely, scared and they’d just been through a scary experience so bonded a bit

There could be a second series because the whole Sampson thing isn’t solved in my head and I’m not convinced that Luke (?) was the head of the criminal mastermind outfit. Why would he recruit Andy and not one of his minions?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 24/09/2018 07:22

Unbelievable that people were bored during the bomb vest section!

TweeBee · 24/09/2018 07:26

I always thought Kim had run because Tahir was at the side of the stage and she thought no one should be. She didn't necessarily know it was him, but perceived a threat because the area should have been clear. Slash Dave hadn't mentioned to her who had just come in and why.
Then I guess Dave went because he's the kind of guy!
Still can't over Nadia and his children!
