I do think Sampson is involved in the organised crime thing. Maybe Craddock has taken the blame (obv was involved too) as Sampson was higher up than her and could maybe navigate an early release for her? I was never clear exactly what they were heads of. Counter terrorism? The met? Or the whole police?

EvilRingahBitch · 24/09/2018 07:29

OMG Nadia is Rani from SJA!

This will blow DD’s mind. Because this is a U.K. drama she was watching it saying “what do I know that actress from… oh yes, Dr Who” for pretty much everyone (Miss Delphox, Heather the wet alien lesbian, Mels). We never spotted that secret evil mastermind is Rani.

beanaseireann · 24/09/2018 07:35

What was Longcross up to ?
He was getting orders from the Secret Service ?
Is Craddock one rung down the career ladder from Sampson ?
The new Secretary of State- could somebody explain what he was involved in please, telling Julia's former suitor to stick to the story.

wowfudge · 24/09/2018 07:37

I have a question for those people who thought it was boring and/or not the right outcome: what should have happened in your opinions?

I thought the bomb vest scene was absolutely gripping and the tension just kept ramping up. Far from boring.

maxiflump1 · 24/09/2018 07:39

@TweeBee I think Sampson is head of the mets counter terrorism unit (met commander rank) and Craddock was head of the personal protection unit in charge of those officers protecting mps and royalty (chief superintendent rank) So yes Sampson outranks Craddock and I agree there's something not quite right there.....

wowfudge · 24/09/2018 07:40

The briefcase was a red herring - they were trying to discredit Julia via Tahir interrupting her speech. It was Machiavellian manouevering rather than murderous.

maxiflump1 · 24/09/2018 07:43

@beanaseireann the new Home Secretary and the curly hair guy tried to discredit Julia by giving her false information for her big speech. That's what he was trying to cover up and nothing to suggest he was aware/involved in the bombing.

Longcross was a secret service agent hence how they managed to get him released from custody with a court order.

Yep Craddock is a rank (or maybe two??) lower than Sampson.

TweeBee · 24/09/2018 07:43

Thank you maxiflump!

beanaseireann · 24/09/2018 07:47

Thank you maxi.
Why was he going after Budd - for the kompromat ?

tinstar · 24/09/2018 07:47

Unbelievable that people were bored during the bomb vest section!

Exactly! Especially when you know Jed Mercurio has no qualms about killing off major characters. My heart was in my mouth the whole time. It was a rollercoaster of emotion and fascinating to see how all the key characters responded in the situation.

HeresMeh · 24/09/2018 07:47

Can someone help me please, basically so I can get DH to be quiet about it!

How did the compromat get buried over the wall outside his flat when the last we saw it was in the boiler?

glamorousgrandmother · 24/09/2018 07:53

VanGoghsDog Slash Dave was apparently making the assumption about her bring submissive Muslim woman (stereotype ) Mercurio was playing with the idea as soon many people watching also fell for it. Although what KnotsinMay said about giving her a way out was also true. Just don't think it was anyone being PC whatever that means- I hate that phrase it gets bandied about and means whatever the person using it wants it to mean.

glamorousgrandmother · 24/09/2018 07:54

so many not soon many.

LillianGish · 24/09/2018 07:55

Loved it - though the least believable aspect for me (apart from Budd getting such a speedy mental health appointment) was that with all his bodyguard/army training, he agreed to go downstairs with Chanel and sat with his back to the exits. I realise he had to do this in order to fall into enemy hands, but having watched so many scenes of him doing his job on super high alert it seemed unlikely he would have made such an elementary schoolboy error.

Believeitornot · 24/09/2018 07:57

Dave moved the kompromat. We know from the gun incident that he never keeps something in the same place for long - always moves stuff about. You just never see him do it but the clues are there.

HeresMeh · 24/09/2018 07:59

@Believeitornot well would you mind phoning and telling my DH this cause I'm damned if he'll accept that answer from me 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

I cant BELIEVE people thought the best scene was boring in any way!! I was watching it through my fingers the entire time!! It was just brilliant... the whole thing!

DoryNow · 24/09/2018 09:13

Delores Thank you , I knew I'd seen Nadia before but couldn't work out where, SJA were a staple of my kids watching at one point.

Gersemi · 24/09/2018 09:15

I agree with Believeitornot about the kompromat being in the garden. Also, of course, we don't know that he put it in the boiler in the first place - that could well have been a dummy to delay/put searchers off the scent.

DanglyBangly · 24/09/2018 09:24

An also surprised by how many people expected Julia to reappear. It would have been ridiculous if her death was faked, it was better and more dramatic to have her bumped off halfway through.

MargoLovebutter · 24/09/2018 09:39

I'm so stupid, I can't quite work out the roles of all the badies! Help me!

Lorraine Craddock - obviously a baddie, who was being bribed / paid off by the organised criminals

Chanel - obviously a baddie, who was being paid by the organised criminals

Andy Apsted - had been turned by the organised criminals and was bonkers and was therefore a baddie

Rob Macdonald - horrible weak weasel, under the power of the deputy home secretary and Roger Penhaligon but was he just a political plotter or did he actually know about the bomb?

Mike Travis - again nasty plotter, but did he know about the bombs and the organised criminals?

Roger Penhaligon - nasty ex-husband and political plotter, but did he know about the organised criminals?

Stephen Hunter-Dunn - what exactly were secret services up to? I was really confused by their role in all of this.

Anne Sampson - again wasn't really sure if she was a proper goody or not.

Julia Montague - what exactly was she trying to do with the dodgy background stuff she discovered about the PM? Was she trying to become PM herself?

wowfudge · 24/09/2018 10:07

The politicians were being politicians it was the other things going on around them that made them look as though they might be involved in terrorism/killing the Home Secretary. The secret service wanted the PM discredited and out and a friendly face - Julia - in his place to support their extra powers. The secret service were also working to discredit SlashDave as he could expose their involvement in giving Julia the compromat and it looked as though he was involved with the terrorists.

wowfudge · 24/09/2018 10:14

SlashDave had an appointment with Occupational Health, that'll be internal to the police service and the starting point of getting treatment for his PTSD.

dogsdinnerlady · 24/09/2018 10:17

Craddock had to do a complete confession scene so she could explain the plot for us viewers.
How did the baddies wire Dave into the vest while he was unconscious? How long was he out cold for? He could have come round at any time. Surely you don't get whacked on the head so hard you're unconscious for some time then get up and start thinking.
Agree counsellor would have a confidential office. She wouldn't be sitting behind a desk either.

PollyFlinderz · 24/09/2018 10:20

I thought the bomb vest scene was absolutely gripping and the tension just kept ramping up. Far from boring

I didn’t find it boring and It made up for the very poor previous two episodes.

prh47bridge · 24/09/2018 10:23

MargoLovebutter - Macdonald, Travis and Penhaligon did not know about the bomb or the criminals. They knew Julia was plotting against the PM with support from the security services and wanted to end her leadership ambitions. It was purely a political plot.

The secret security services wanted Julia as PM and were helping her by supplying compromising material on the PM. Julia had made the PM aware of the compromising material and the speech where she was killed was supposed to be a pretty clear grab for the leadership.

Anne Sampson was on the good side but the possibility that she is also involved with organised crime hasn't been completely ruled out.
