Oops sorry for the messy link...

PrivateParkin · 13/09/2018 17:58

Gah, it didn't work - trying again Blush

Goran

Raahh · 13/09/2018 18:08

I just saw on FB it was his birthday! it was one of my favourite finals, mainly because I loved Patrick Rafter too, a very underrated player really.

it was such an emotional moment when he won.

Same here Raahh. Against anyone else I would've wanted Rafter to win - fantastic grass court player.

Kazza that's v funny about Henri!

Is Davis Cup on TV this weekend does anyone know?

PrivateParkin · 13/09/2018 18:19

magi have there been any more Delpo Doppelganger (Delpoganger?!) sightings?!

ferrier · 13/09/2018 18:53

I really don't think I'm with my people here! I hated that year. Goran snuck past Timmy - without that Timmy could have had the Wimbledon trophy and then there wouldnt have been so much hype about bloomin Andy Murray Hmm

As for top 5 nice guys -
Goffin Federer Dimitrov Edmund Raonic

And I believe Nole had to forgo his extreme diet as one of the conditions of getting back with Marian Vajda. Not sure what it now entails exactly but it was certainly one of the things Vajda spoke if in the aftermath of his Wimbledon victory.

kazzaD66 · 13/09/2018 18:55

Private apparently, it's on the BBC red button. Fingers crossed, although I can't count the number of times Friday dinner has been massively delayed due to me being unable to tear myself away from a close second rubber Grin

kazzaD66 · 13/09/2018 19:04

ferrier it was the AELTC's fault. The order of play cttee put Tim on last on the Friday night to maximise viewing figures and then of course it rained, pre-roof, so off they trooped and Tim went from a dominant winning position to Goodnight Vienna upon resumption!!
Me and a colleague bunked off work on the Mon afternoon to watch the final in a nearby wine bar - completely contactable, as we had our mobiles Wink Well, employees were allowed to watch the flipping World Cup every 4 years, so it was only fair Grin

PrivateParkin · 13/09/2018 19:23

Tim Henman would never have won a Slam, rain or no rain.

PrivateParkin · 13/09/2018 19:30

Thanks kazza. That's the GB tie I presume? Is it right they are only playing for ranking points because of the format change?

ferrier yes Raonic should be included - might have to make it a top 10...

ferrier · 13/09/2018 19:34

Tim Henman would never have won a Slam, rain or no rain.

Why could he not have won it that year? He would have been in the final without the rain.

kazzaD66 · 13/09/2018 19:42

Yes private the GB tie

PrivateParkin · 13/09/2018 19:44

Well ok, maybe that was a bit harsh. But... I don't think he would have beaten Rafter. Rafter was a better player. Ok, anything can happen on any given day. But I just can't see that he would've gone out there, taken the game to Rafter and won Wimbledon. Who knows. Maybe I'm biased because of my love of Goran.

I do like Tim's commentary though.

PrivateParkin · 13/09/2018 19:48

Ok I just looked up the Rafter-Henman head to head - sad. It's 3-2 in Rafter's favour. But Henman won their only meeting on grass.

Huh. Stupid facts!

JaneJeffer · 13/09/2018 20:34

I never thought Henman could win Wimbledon. I always thought Andy could win. Anyway I love Tim on the commentary. It's a shame Rafter never won but I was happy for Goran that year.

Raahh · 13/09/2018 20:56

Private Henman and Murray commentating on the Rafa/Delpo match was one of the highlights of Wimbledon - they were very funny together (and you know I'm not a Murray fanGrin). I'm glad they chose that match to commentate on- it was the best of the tournament, and the commentary just added to it. It was brilliant.

That, and the 'most boring ' poll Grin.

I love Andy's sense of humour. I can relate to people taking you seriously when you're not being serious at all! I think he's often misunderstood Grin Tim is very witty and I love him and Mac together as well

Raahh · 13/09/2018 21:08

Jane I much prefer him off court, than on it Grin
Sometimes I like Mac, sometimes he bugs me. But I|fdSW]@{~

Yay happy birthday Goran! That was my second favourite Wimbledon final after the Rafa/federer final of 2008. I was so happy when Goran won - I also don’t think Tim Herman could have won a slam.

I want to be on holiday with a Delpo look a like Smile

ferrier · 13/09/2018 21:23

I don't agree with Raahh much(!) but I can agree that Murray is much better off court than on!

ferrier · 13/09/2018 21:31

Timmy got to 6 grand slam finals. He also won the Paris Masters beating a whole host of fancied players along the way. I think he had as much chance as many others - Stich, Krajicek, Cash. A very similar game style to Edberg and he won six Grand Slams. Timmy was always a joy to watch anyway. Such an athletic mover and beautiful soft hands.

ferrier · 13/09/2018 21:32

Doh - semi-finals! I do know he never made it to a final!

Raahh · 13/09/2018 21:33

sorry about my rambled last postGrin.
major laptop disaster, as my dog decided to knock my coffee over as I was typing.

I think i have rescued the laptop.Grin
