Grin

I can't believe it's nearly September, really. I'm sure the Australian open has just finished. Grin

I'm going to spend the morning labelling school uniform . I really am.

I probably won't

Just as well I don't have it Private as I'd probably stay up to see Rafa and I need to be semi-awake in the morning to usher DS2 out the door and remind him of everything he needs to take with him. He seems to have inherited my night owl tendencies and is useless in the mornings.

JaneJeffer · 03/09/2018 23:12

Or is it tomorrow Rafa's on next? I've got time difference confusion.

Raahh · 04/09/2018 05:55

just that Federer is out. I've been score checking on and off whilst not being able to sleep.

well done to Millmam

I just woke up and score checked too

PrivateParkin · 04/09/2018 06:59

Omg!!! Now that is a shock. But Milkman seems like the nicest guy. Fair play to him. Wow, a Milkman -Djokovic QF, who would have thought it?!

magimedi · 04/09/2018 07:02

Could not believe the Federer result. Sad, as it gives Djock more chance.

Marian Keys certainly beat Cibulkova, didn't she?

Raahh - You have my sympathy. DH woke me with snoring last night.

And I dreamt that I was at the Korean Open tennis (wtf?) about to watch Roger & Rafa playing doubles together AND you lot were all there watching with me!!

What a meet up that would be!!

PrivateParkin · 04/09/2018 07:09

I see Sharapova is out as well. And Andy Murray is out of the Davis Cup tie in Glasgow. Can't keep up with all this news!

Jane I hope your morning goes well getting your DS to school! I know what you mean about night owl habits, I'm the same, and when tennis is on its just too tempting to stay up.

PrivateParkin · 04/09/2018 07:12

magi that would be a great meet up! Quite far to go but I'm sure it would be worth it!

magimedi · 04/09/2018 07:18

Was delighted to see Shrieky was out.

I do wonder if Andy will ever come back to top form again?

PrivateParkin · 04/09/2018 07:42

I'm just watching the Fed-Milkman highlights. Fed is a set and a break up, and the commentators are casually predicting he'll win - which you can't blame them for really, as that's how it looks. He is starting to bunt a lot of stuff into the net though now. What a shocker.

I was thinking that Djokovic has an easy draw now, presuming Milkman can't pull another big win out of the bag that is (although you never know...)

MirandaWest · 04/09/2018 07:52

I have no idea - I suppose that’s a good thing about tennis that things can be unexpected.
Djokovic didn’t look great physically in his match yesterday but still won in 3 sets I suppose

Fizzywinegum · 04/09/2018 08:01

Federer losing is a bit of a shock - my DH told me when I woke up that Milkman had won - pleased that he’s getting on board with the lingo Smile

It’s strange how tennis infiltrates the brain Magi that would be a good meet up.

I’m not sure if Andy Murray can come back to his former level - it must be frustrating for him.

Hoping that I don’t wake up to a similar shock result tomorrow morning in the Rafa/Thiem match.

JaneJeffer · 04/09/2018 08:04

Well done Milkman!

Raahh hope you got some sleep. Nothing worse than dripping water to drive you mad.

Private he gone off on the bus, which sounded like it could break down at any minute!

magi that's hilarious! I wonder what your dream versions of us look like Grin

JaneJeffer · 04/09/2018 08:06

Fizzy I'm impressed with your DH Grin

MajesticWhine · 04/09/2018 08:09

Big shock about Fed. Sounds like he had a horror show and really struggled with conditions.
Magi - I can't see Andy Murray getting back to the top now and I think he might quit within a year.

magimedi · 04/09/2018 08:14

Jane It was one of those dreams where you don't actually see the people but you know they are there.

So hope Delpo can beat Isner.

Raahh · 04/09/2018 08:23

Oh, I'm glad about Shrieky.

Magi that sounds like an amazing dream. Grin. No opportunities for doubles this year, sadly, as Rafa has Davis Cup the week before Laver Cup so won't be there (but he made that clear months ago).
Wise move, I think.

Dh got up at 3am- I was still awake. The noise from the loo was awful, so he switched it off. We are having to manually flush it with a jug Grin, but at least I managed about 2 hours sleep, with out the noise!

Dd2 is ready for school - I just need about 3 pints of coffee.

I have been reading about the Fed/Millman match. Most of the reports, as usual, are not keen to credit John with the win, but focus on Fed's errors- of which there were a lot. But Millman still had to fight back, and win the match. When I saw the first set score, I figured it was business as usual- but when I saw how long the sets were taking, realised it wasn't.

I'm not very confident about the Rafa/Dom match- I think Rafa is vulnerable, he's not looked totally confident, but has found a way to win. Two players who have only ever met on clay- will be an interesting match.

Djok did not look well- I imagine his next match will be a late one, but if he gets to the final, whoever he plays, that will be slightly earlier- and could be more problematic for him if it's hot. they might close the roof.

(I'm putting off leaving the house. I can't face the whole school playground thing this morning misery). Grin

Can't watch Delpo / Isner because I am working late this evening. Will have to rely on you all to post updates.

Fizzywinegum · 04/09/2018 09:16

I’m hoping to watch some of the Delpo/Isner match - should be on about 6.30pm depending on Sloane Stephens match.

I agree Raahh I wouldn’t be surprised if Rafa loses - he has seemed a bit vulnerable in his last two matches and Thiem has beaten him before. Hope you get your toilet sorted - I hate it when things go wrong in the house.

Raahh · 04/09/2018 09:55

Fizzy it was so loud and annoying. I was ready to take a hammer to it Grin.

Rafa has looked vulnerable- a bonus will be he is familiar with how Thiem plays, but has Thiem modified his clay game significantly to suit the hard courts?

I will probably miss most of Delpo/Isner- DD1 has football and Bake Off is on Grin. I really want Juan to win it.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 04/09/2018 10:31

Thiem is a bit of a surprise in the QFs I think. He hasn't done much since the French (has he? Or am I massively overlooking some tournament he's won or something?!) and I'll be interested to see how he plays against Rafa. Clay is his best surface too I suppose, but I think he can give Rafa a good match and he's not scared of going "toe to toe" with him, as they say.

JaneJeffer · 04/09/2018 10:47

Thiem had gone off the boil a bit lately but I think playing Rafa might actually help to spur him on.

Fizzywinegum · 04/09/2018 10:56

I think you’re right Jane Thiem does seem to raise his game against Rafa (apart from in the RG final). Will be interesting to see how they play against each other on a surface that’s not clay.

Oh yes it’s bake off tonight as well - my DHs patience is wearing a bit thin at watching tennis every night so will see how much of Delpo I can watch.

JaneJeffer · 04/09/2018 11:06

I miss having the tennis to watch. I tried a couple of dramas Vanity Fair and Age Before Beauty but I couldn't get on with either of them. I need to get back into reading now that I've had my eye fixed and can actually see a book in artificial light.

ferrier · 04/09/2018 14:58

Well my interest in the US Open has ended. Federer hasn't really played well since Melbourne but I had hoped the victory against Krygios would kick start his season. Sadly not to be. Not sure who I want to win now. Maybe Thiem or Raonic at a push. Or Nishikori but that's a real outside bet.
