Grin

I can't believe it's nearly September, really. I'm sure the Australian open has just finished. Grin

I'm going to spend the morning labelling school uniform . I really am.

I probably won't

Ah ferrier I hate that feeling and I know it well!! I thought that too about Federer, that he was much more likely to lose to Kyrgios. It's strange the way things go. I really think the men's tournament is up for grabs for almost anyone left in the draw tbh.

PrivateParkin · 04/09/2018 17:07

Jane I was reading something earlier that was saying we should all be planning our autumn reading lists now as a way to stave off the end of summer blues... So you could be onto something there...

PrivateParkin · 04/09/2018 17:35

Just watching Stephens v Sevastova while I do the tea...

Sevastova is an interesting player isn't she? I've not really seen her play before I don't think. She's hitting a lot of slice, unpredictable shots etc. Early days though.

Raahh · 04/09/2018 17:43

She's doing well so far- but she was unhappy with something at the change of ends, grumbling to the umpire.

The commentators do not know how to pronounce Sevastova. The umpire is getting it right- Virginia and her mate aren't, and it's bugging me.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 04/09/2018 17:50

Yes it's bugging me too! Why don't they just copy what the umpire says - at least then it's consistent!!

Hope back to school went ok Raahh. It's tomorrow for us - not looking forward to it.

Raahh · 04/09/2018 17:57

Private dd2 came home full of beans, and most of all she enjoyed being on packed lunches HmmGrin (she's just gone into year 3, and had free dinners up until now. Since the older 2 at secondary cost me a small fortune, I wasn't paying for her to have disgusting school dinners tooGrin).

Ds is in tomorrow, at 11.30, and then dd1 is in on Thursday. It's lucky ds is not totally reliant on the school bus- since they aren't running at such a daft time.

And Sevastova has the set.

Back to school is tomorrow here. I work from home 99% of the time. Naturally I have a meeting in Manchester (am in York) tomorrow...

Children should be with their dad tonight but they’d rather start back at school
from here so DH can deal with it. Feel a bit bad that I’ll just get to waltz off Blush

MirandaWest · 04/09/2018 17:59

They are 14 and 12 so perfectly capable just late nights over the summer won’t have helped. Especially not for 14 year old DS who is a pain to move in the mornings anyway.

And I keep staying up too late to watch tennis Blush

PrivateParkin · 04/09/2018 18:04

Miranda sod's law isn't it?? There's nothing you can do is there?? V annoying though.

Raahh I agree with those staggered starts in theory, but they are also annoying to manage as a parent!! Argh!

Meanwhile in the tennis, Sloane just hit a great shot, but she's not looking v comfortable overall.

Hantuchova is a good analyst, isn't she? Enjoying her commentary.

I hear the extreme heat rule is in force again today. Did anyone hear Roger mentioning his sweaty shorts after yesterday's match?!? Tmi Rog!! Grin

Raahh · 04/09/2018 18:07

Eww, Roger. Grin

I think a lot of rules will be looked and and amended after this tournament, the heat has caused so many issues.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 04/09/2018 18:18

It makes me a bit sad to see Sloane like this. I mean, Sevastova is playing brilliantly, but Sloane looks so dejected Sad

Raahh · 04/09/2018 18:21

Sloane played really well the other day, so it is a shame she can't find a way into this match.

But Sevastova is playing very well, and fully deserves the scoreline .

OP posts:
Raahh · 04/09/2018 18:22

She could still turn it around...maybe

OP posts:
Mama1980 · 04/09/2018 18:23

Sloane is in real trouble here, I don't think she has looked herself all tournament.
It quite made my day to wake up and see the overnight score, wasn't expecting that from Millman at all, but yay!
Looking forward to watching delpo later, haven't even glimpsed his matches so far , but don't think I'll be staying up for Rafa.
We home ed so no back to school here but I'm happy to hear your dd had a great day raahh haha, I remember my school dinners....packed lunches were definitely a real treat :) good luck to everyone else's children heading back, I hope they all have wonderful first days.

Raahh · 04/09/2018 18:25

Mama the overnight scores made me very happy too.

I've got everything crossed for a repeat of good results tonight.

PrivateParkin · 04/09/2018 18:46

Wow, great win for Sevastova.

I can't believe they're making them play in this heat, it looks awful.

Raahh · 04/09/2018 18:47

Well, Sevastova was not phased, and won the match. And Virginia started getting her name right at the and Grin

Hopefully it won't be ages before the Delpo match starts. I just wish he wasn't playing Isner- who chews his shirt, and carries his towel in his mouth like Kyrgios does. Bleurgh.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 04/09/2018 18:57

Come on Delpo!! Make tennis great again!! Grin

Mama1980 · 04/09/2018 18:58

Grin private

Raahh · 04/09/2018 18:59
Grin

Isner's shirt offends me.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 04/09/2018 19:01

Mama I always think I'd love I home ed, I feel that DS is lost to me once he goes back into the school system, and he's an August birthday too, so I always feel he went to school too early anyway. But it's just not possible for us unfortunately (plus I always think DS would not listen to me and just play with Lego instead Grin )

Anyway. Sorry for the derail. DelPo and Isner are warming up...

PrivateParkin · 04/09/2018 19:04

Petchey: "this should be a classic"
Isner: double fault Grin

Raahh · 04/09/2018 19:10
Grin

More doubles faults would be great.

It won't be a classic sadly, not with Isner involved. He bores me.

I really wish Milos had beaten him.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 04/09/2018 19:13

No, it's really not Raahh. Completely agree!!

Wish they wouldn't keep purring about Isner's "soft hands" - bleurgh to that too!!

I'm already thinking I might have to mute Courier...

Mama1980 · 04/09/2018 19:16

GrinIsner matches are always boring.....too much serve and not enough tennis. Not a strong start from either player here.

private home ed works for us....my son is unusual, school isn't applicable reallyGrin and he thrives but I accept it isn't for everyone. I'm very fortunate to be able to afford to do it. My eldest went to school though my younger two won't either.
