Breakfast my husband commented on that as well!
I was in the hairdressers today and saw a photo in an old Hello of RM wearing a kilt at a celebrity wedding. Never has my national dress looked so sexy Blush

Papergirl1968 · 04/09/2018 20:25

Really enjoy reading your theories but I’m more confused than ever now!
Two things have struck me..
Firstly, that the police have referred several times to not being able to get much info out of the train bomb couple. So the obvious answer is to send SlashDave in to speak to the woman as he clearly had a rapport with her. Why hasn’t this occurred to them?
Secondly, didn’t the HS say she wanted SlashDave to be with her, not just because he was paid to be her bodyguard? Which suggests it’s not just sex, at least not for her. I don’t think he answered though.
I thought episode three had definite echos of the film Bodyguard, with the speech before a packed audience reminiscent of Whitney’s awards ceremony, and SlashDave racing towards her just like good old Kev Costner did [sighs]
I don’t think Julia will die but I suspect she’ll have PTSD now too!

buttybuttybutthole · 04/09/2018 20:31

Yep she's dead. Poop.

tribpot · 04/09/2018 20:37

Yes, I got the impression Julia was telling SlashDave she was having him taken off her protection detail, so that if they were together it was because they wanted to, not because they had to. Equally, that could just have been a test to see if he was there in order to spy on her.

I think the sex scenes are deliberately awkward and unsexy. These are two people who are desperate to feel a connection to someone else, thrown together in extraordinary circumstances, like wartime. Plus neither trusts the other. A fine romance this is not.

If you're right, Papergirl1968 we should have Keeley warbling one of Dolly Parton's greatest hits shortly!

Papergirl1968 · 04/09/2018 20:54

Indeed tribpot 😂

Oblomov18 · 04/09/2018 20:58

Makes note to add this up sky+ planner.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/09/2018 21:49

I think she’s alive. She can’t die with another 3 episodes

I also think she knew he couldn’t be her bodyguard and lovers so said she wanted him as a lover

Again like bodyguard film and Whitney gets the old bloke as bodyguard as Kevin couldn’t love and save her

Useless fact. Bodyguard film is almost 26yrs old

Bibstersgirl · 04/09/2018 22:25

Random unconnected theories in our house...the briefcase containing the speech did contain a bomb and SlashDave allowed it. We never saw inside the case. Home Sec is blackmailing PM re cocaine and sexual assault (he’s powerful enough to have it suppressed). Leak is via Chanelle and whoever picks her up in the Range Rover. I’m out of theories for now

Bibstersgirl · 04/09/2018 22:39

Must explain, just binged all 3 episodes hence being late with the theories Grin

VanGoghsDog · 05/09/2018 01:21

I watched ep 3 again tonight. No way was the bomb from the side of the stage, it was right in front.

Kim saw something, Dave saw Kim run and ran towards her, presumably to meet her and stop whatever she had seen along with her.

KH was still alive according to news reports at the end of the episode.

Still think the briefcase was empty.

Charley50 · 05/09/2018 07:16

I've never seen The Bodyguard. Blush Is that weird?

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/09/2018 07:51

Surely he would have checked brief case before giving it to home SEc

So if he had known it was Empty he wouldn’t have tried to give it to her

Don’t think bomb was in it

Gre8scott · 05/09/2018 08:00

Travelled the world I have had the displeasure of working with Adrian Dunbar. He has no rescept of women whatsoever

DurtySarf · 05/09/2018 09:10

Watched the most recent episode on iPlayer last night so am now able to join this thread. Loving all the theories!

Having watched the first two episodes I was motivated to start watching Line of Duty. Two episodes in to series 1 and I am hooked.

Cheers to all who recommended it. Grin

I realise many will already have seen LoD so please may I make a small plea for no spoilers?

Thank you!

VanGoghsDog · 05/09/2018 09:14

He wasn't trying to give the briefcase to the Home Sec, he was going to warn her that the speech want fact checked.

wowfudge · 05/09/2018 10:16

We can't play that drinking game - too many potentially crucial bits of information would be missed.

I don't know how anyone can equate this with the truly lousy film The Bodyguard!

The80sweregreat · 05/09/2018 11:46

aww, i like the old 90s film the Bodyguard as Costner is so dishy in that film and the songs are not that bad even if it is overblown rubbish!
I am enjoying this drama but havent a clue what is going on.

Gersemi · 05/09/2018 11:51

Julia already knew the speech wasn't fact-checked, I assume he was aiming to give her a corrected version of the relevant section.

Papergirl1968 · 05/09/2018 11:53

Oh, you must Charley - I love it.
Fudge! Shock

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 05/09/2018 11:58

But how could the aide have warned Julia that the facts were unchecked?

She was in the middle of a speech.

I do think the briefcase was a red herring.

Gersemi · 05/09/2018 12:20

She knew the facts were unchecked, she'd had a conversation with the aide about it earlier. I suppose she ploughed on with the speech on the assumption that if they found serious errors they would have warned her. If he's innocent, I guess he could have been psyching himself up to braving her wrath by interrupting the speech and giving her the corrected passage.

wowfudge · 05/09/2018 12:35

Jed Mercurio has said they decided not to show what was in the briefcase after agonising over it (or whatever it was he actually said) so my belief is that it was just papers/files. Otherwise we wouldn't be speculating whether her aide had the bomb in the case.

changingname18 · 05/09/2018 16:37

Yay duty I've just started watching LOD too after this thread. I've only watched the first two so far but I'm hooked. I'm clock watching until I can get the boys to bed! Grin

I remember coming across the second series of LOD by chance and binge watching it in one go! Jed Mercurio really knows how to write for television.
