Very exciting but I have no clue what is going to happen now! I think that's exactly how they want us to feel at this stage! Will read the guardian round up later. Thanks for posting the link.

I'm going to try and watch it again too

VanGoghsDog · 03/09/2018 11:21

@Charley50

Bald Asian-looking guy>? Do you mean Vincent Franklin, one of the best British actors ever and distinctly un-Asian?

There was the journalist who arrived late at the speech as well, not sure what she has to do with anything.

It does look as if David was running to intercept the policewoman, but I interpreted that as to stop her from taking down Tahir the poor aide with the briefcase, although as they're miked he could have just told her if Tahir wasn't a threat.

VanGoghsDog · 03/09/2018 11:25

Interesting idea in Guardian comments section - it's a Tahir look-a-like and that is why Tahir was recruited, so they could plant a look-a-like to do the deed who would not be suspected.

Charley50 · 03/09/2018 11:32

@VanGoghsDog - I thought the actor was Asian/white heritage, not relevant to the story, just that's what he looked like to me.
And not heard of him before, philistine that I am!!

placemats · 03/09/2018 11:36

Perhaps Tahir has been shot/killed and him and his suitcase taken away so that he gets the blame. If it's a suicide bomber there will be little left of him. Then slashDave can testify (or not) that he checked out the suitcase but will definitely know something is up.

VanGoghsDog · 03/09/2018 11:37

He's such a great actor - he was in Cucumber (fab series, distressing though) and W1A, The Thick of It etc. He's underused here - so maybe more to come from him?

The whole thing is very dark (hilarious comment on Guardian website saying it's the best programme about dark hotel rooms and going up and down in lifts that we have seen for a long time...) and I really don't like that, find it hard to work out what is going on.

placemats · 03/09/2018 11:38

Sorry that was following on from VanGogh's suggestion.

Charley50 · 03/09/2018 11:50

It's not Line of Duty and it's never going to be Homeland but I suppose it's gripping enough.

wowfudge · 03/09/2018 11:54

I think it's great - keeps you guessing and wondering what is relevant.

CodLiverOil556 · 03/09/2018 11:57

I was in the Army for a long time and we were always told to keep your distance when you wake someone up as they're not responsible for their actions in the first 30 seconds.

The80sweregreat · 03/09/2018 12:12

It is gripping and catches you unawares. BBC are competing with the Netflix dramas and they are upping their game I think!
i love the main man and agree his eyes are beautiful. Bit distracting!

wowfudge · 03/09/2018 12:51

Line of Duty was first on TV in 2012.

glamorousgrandmother · 03/09/2018 13:04

What happened to ex PR assistant Chanel? She got into the Range Rover with the blacked out windows and hadn’t been seen since!

I think we'll see more of her, she was put there for a reason no-one could get that job and really be so incompetent.

QueenoftheNights · 03/09/2018 13:14

I've watched the bomb scene again. (and again...) and I can't see any reason why David would run towards the Home Sec other than:

1 he thought the female cop had spotted something he hadn't (someone in the wings just off stage)

2 he thought she had a bomb. (she was a bit chubby so not impossible she had a bomb on her under her shirt.)

The long lingering looks with the aide are meant to cast doubt as to whether they were complicit and Dave saw the bomb.

Curtainshopping · 03/09/2018 14:10

The female police officer can't be the bomber, where's the bomb? She was carrying nothing and a suicide vest is big and bulky, you wouldn't be able to hide it. (Though I wonder why she ran all the way to the stage, I'd have thought their training would be to pull out their firearm and shoot. Not sure whether it's significant, probably not)

wowfudge · 03/09/2018 14:23

I'm going to have to re-watch and pause it frame by frame!

Wingedharpy · 03/09/2018 14:28

My latest theory, as ever, based on nothing :
The Home Secretary is NOT the target - The Bodyguard is!
Discuss......

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 03/09/2018 14:28

The PM is the heavy set bloke with white hair sitting to the right of Julia when she's speaking in the House.
You see him briefly inside the door of Chequers.

What is messing with my head is that the actor was also in W1A, normally in meetings tersely saying Bollocks.
I was half expecting "Bollocks" when Julia turned up at Chequers

VanGoghsDog · 03/09/2018 14:37

The Home Secretary is NOT the target - The Bodyguard is!

That has been muted in the programme, that the cell that was trying to blow up the train found out who he was (hence the issues around leaks) and are out to get him - certainly that is what they thought about why his kids' school was targeted.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 03/09/2018 14:38

Yes, I'm experiencing a W1A crossover there too! I'm absolutely hooked on this series. Can't wait for next Sunday.

DoryNow · 03/09/2018 15:36

I've just rewatched & not much clearer but a few things seem more obvious.

Tahir was set up by Rob to take the rap for the speech being mucked up, possibly suggested by someone higher up ( the Chief Whip?) to ensure Tahir was in place for the bombing to take the blame.

Was Tahir nobbled before going into the auditorium & actually became a suicide bomber? I think the shifty looks between him & David were bc Tahir was so nervous & David was suspicious but couldn't tell why as the briefcase was empty/ files only.

Kim (chirpy blonde security officer) I think ran towards Tahir as she just caught a glimpse & as no one was expected stage side she thought the worst & legged it.

Was David trying to intercept her knowing she'd made a mistake or had he also seen whatever she had?

Bomb went off as they met at the front of the stage, but was it on Tarif or with the late arrival of the young girl "journo"?
( side note surely given the heightened security around Julia everyone would be invitation only plus frisked going into the venue that so that the protestors would have been spotted &the late arrival only allowed in after clearing with David?)

Basically clear as mud as ever .....roll on next Sunday!!!

VanGoghsDog · 03/09/2018 15:43

I think the shifty looks between him & David were bc Tahir was so nervous & David was suspicious but couldn't tell why as the briefcase was empty/ files only.

I felt this was a bit of sympathy from David to Tahir on the way horrible Rob (who was after Julia before) was treating him, because he overheard him saying he was only there to provide diversity.

I don't think the bomb was on Tahir, too obvious and lazy. I honestly don't think David would have seen a bomb and let it through knowing lots of people, including his colleagues and himself (his main aim in life seems to be to work and provide income for his kids, he'd not put himself at risk physically), were likely to get hurt - I reckon the briefcase was totally empty! Rob had double-crossed Tahir and NOT given him the research etc. Hence the looks.

But, you're right that no-one should have been able to get in with a device, so the only answer is that it was there already?

KnotsInMay · 03/09/2018 17:03

It was mooted by the police / security services that SlashDave could have been the target, hence the police wanting to remove him from his HS detail.

4 attacks:
Train: /Dave present
School: /Dave's children present
Sniper attack on car: HS and /Dave present
Bomb: HS and /Dave present.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 03/09/2018 17:19

I rewatched episode 3 again this afternoon.
Last night I thought the document on the laughably protected tablet was background info on Slash dave, mainly because Julia looked upset by it and glanced towards Slash Dave's roo.
Now I realise the drinking cocaine using sex pest in the document was the PM. Which is how Julia was going to oust him
Cue " bollocks"
