Re the death star. In the first episode there was a mocked up picture of Keeley Hawes with David Cameron and Michael Gove. When David/Dave sees it, she says, 'ah there we are, building the Death Star' so I presume the Death Star is No 10.

raisedbyguineapigs · 03/09/2018 09:24

The Death Star in Star Wars is where the baddies try to destroy the universe or something. I have watched all the films. I'm none the wiserGrin

placemats · 03/09/2018 09:53

I have absolutely no idea what is going on now.

Can't quite put my finger on it.

PollyFlinderz · 03/09/2018 09:56

Ive no longer any idea whats going on but I'll watch it to its conclusion to see what it was all about. Last night was doubly awful because there werent even any scenes with him in his vest.

Gersemi · 03/09/2018 10:01

PollyFlinder, wasn't the naked rear view consolation for lack of vest?

placemats · 03/09/2018 10:01

But we did get to see his delicious naked derriere.

Gersemi · 03/09/2018 10:02

Two (dirty) minds with but a single thought there ...

wowfudge · 03/09/2018 10:02

I also think Julia's exH is involved in some way with the security services plot to do away with her - the actor has had very little to do so far and he often plays two-faced people. Remember when he was stalking Lesley Sharp's character in S&B?

But her ex is clearly against her perceived push to become PM and seems to be a supporter of the PM. So why would he and / or the secret service feed her info that seems as if it could destroy the PM or those close to PM?

Is her ex in cahoots with Secret Service? I am confused and agree with a PP: too many of those middle aged men in suits look the same.

glamorousgrandmother · 03/09/2018 10:16

David strangling Julia in his sleep seemed a bit too much lifted straight from the plot of Grey's Anatomy (Owen does the same thing to Cristina due to PTSD).
In the early 80s I worked with someone who had to sleep in a separate room from her husband because he had been in the Army in Korea and used to try and strangle her in his sleep. I don't think the term PTSD was used at that time but that scene was totally realistic imo.

VanGoghsDog · 03/09/2018 10:17

Odd how the PM does not feature on that BBC list of characters - so his is not going to be a bigger part.

Very odd that MI5 would give the Home Sec a tablet that does not have fully encrypted passwords on it (they would not, it would be unhackable, let alone just give up the goods at the press of a single button).

I think Dave is 'good', inasmuchas he just wants to provide for his children. So, he'll do what he has to - shag the Home Sec, spy on her, double-cross his boss etc.

Am I the only one who thinks Dave looks like C3PO (but with a nicer bum)?

wowfudge · 03/09/2018 10:24

I suspect Julia read something she knew to be untrue or that someone couldn't possibly know unless xyz (I don't know what that might be). I think that's why she made an unannounced visit to Chequers, to warn the PM. I think she's ambitious, but a good guy.

wowfudge · 03/09/2018 10:25

He's not tall enough to be CP30.

wowfudge · 03/09/2018 10:26

SlashDave reading the info on tablet could turn out to be useful btw. Someone will try to tell him something contradictory to get him to do something.

FreezerBird · 03/09/2018 10:28

I'll be very cross if Kim the cockney police officer is dead or a baddie. I liked her.

Polarbearflavour · 03/09/2018 10:29

What happened to ex PR assistant Chanel? She got into the Range Rover with the blacked out windows and hadn’t been seen since!

Gersemi · 03/09/2018 10:34

VanGogh, I don't think Dave accessed the tablet at the touch of a button - he seemed to get the code off the accompanying piece of paper. Which admittedly is still pretty terrible security, surely they could just have given Julia a reasonably memorable codeword.

VanGoghsDog · 03/09/2018 10:38

@Gersemi

I did wonder what was on the paper, but yes, that's daft too - they could have set it up with biometrics anyway.

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2018 10:45

I'd have to watch it back but wasn't the person who got Chanel into the range rover the same guy who had the dodgy meeting with Julia yesterday? Whatever he was clled....

MissEliza · 03/09/2018 10:52

I think Julia is basically good. She seemed to care about David when he attacked her during the night, understanding it was caused by PTSD. I've thought David was a good guy from day one from the way he dealt with the female suicide bomber. I think I fell a little bit in love with him then Blush.
I thought the police had it in for Julia but Gina McKie looked deeply shocked following the bomb last night. Now I think it's Julia's ex.
Btw did anyone else recognise Kevin from Motherland (one of my all time favourite shows) as Julia's aide?

FermatsTheorem · 03/09/2018 10:56

I wondered if the "Death Star" was an in-joke about Glasgow - I believe the new hospital is nicknamed "The Death Star". But I agree, the earlier reference Julia makes to "building the death star" is more likely.

placemats · 03/09/2018 11:00

The information on the tablet was about sexual harassment allegations (though against who is another question, one of many)

So was the bomb in the briefcase?

What did Kim see that made her run?

I'm going to have to watch it again. Sighs.

QueenoftheNights · 03/09/2018 11:03

I have watched the final bomb scene several times on iPlayer now and find it hard to see who had the bomb.

If it was the Asian guy with the briefcase, was he entering from Stage left and spotted by the WPC? It's very dark and hard to see- there is only a slight profile of someone in the wings. If he entered the room with the briefcase, why didn't we see him go to the stage? (even if there was a back entrance.)

And of course we arent sure if Dave was complicit and knew there was a bomb in the briefcase- he didn't move any papers around and the camera shot purposely didn't show us what was in it.

Charley50 · 03/09/2018 11:09

It also looked to me like the cockney female cop was the bomber.
I think the relevance of coffee spilling PA getting in a chauffeured is to make the point about the rich and well-connected getting all the opportunities.
I also wondered who is the bald Asian-looking guy with round specs, who is disturbed by the Home Secretary getting into bed with Secret Service.. is he another Minister?
Dave/David i find good looking but mainly unsexy.
