Wasn't the shouty hospital guy her angry ex husband, who is also the chief whip and earlier had been mouthing off about a reshuffle after she'd been to chequers?

I agree there are too many similar characters, it's hard to keep track of who's who

I thought the blast came from the front so from police lady running to get close to Julia? But I actually like her so I'm hoping not!

MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 02/09/2018 22:32

Katie I also wondered if the policewoman running toward the front was wearing the bomb, and SlashDave realised and run after her to try to stop her.

raisedbyguineapigs · 02/09/2018 22:37

I enjoyed that episode and I'm still enjoying the series despite the nonsensical plot lines! I fear a rubbish ending though that will annoy me intensely Grin. I think it's too obvious to have Asian Beardy guy as the bomber and ridiculous that Rob would have planted a bomb in the bag. He wants to humiliate Beardy or Julia I think and it's a red herring.

KittyOSullivanKrauss · 02/09/2018 22:38

Just joining thread. Couldn't decide last week if I was going to get into it but found I wanted to watch again tonight.

I think the tablet contained scandalous information about the PM. M15 gave it to her and in the private exchange after the meeting she agreed to wait for their word before acting on it. She blew that out of the water by going to Chequers and confronting the PM herself which is why M15 guy was angry with her.

Not sure if its a coincidence (or just me) but they have cast the PM to have a bit of a resemblance to ex PM TH.

Belindablinks · 02/09/2018 22:41

Wasn't the tablet info some medical notes about DavidslashDave?

Almondio · 02/09/2018 22:41

So, poss theories:
Didn't Lavendar's ex husband threaten some sort of action due to her attempt to take the PM's job?
Could be Dave/id saw a bomb in the case but let it go as actually he does want her dead
Could've been the female PPO who was legging it towards Lavendar and who Dave tried to stop.
The slimey aid is not at all trustworthy and is being puppeted from above
The sniper would definitley be id'd by now, being so distinctive, and then a connection will be drawn between him and David. Maybe Lavendar will protect him from prosecution...

KnotsInMay · 02/09/2018 22:45

“Not a decent human in the place.”

So far, my faith is in SlashDave as a decent bloke.

I don’t think he is part of any of the plots so far as there are things that would make no sense if he was. He tries to look after his wife and kids, and to be a caring ex even though his ex is shagging someone else. The very first thing he said after StrangleGate was ‘do I need to call a doctor’.

Signs of dodginess:
Has hiddden the id of Scarface. Reason unknown.
He is almost certainly now shagging Lavender for expedient / cynical reasons only, however prime reason seems to be because his police bosses are blackmailing him to spy on her and his main motivation is to protect his kids and ex.

AnnPerkins · 02/09/2018 22:47

PeteHornberger I came to ask the same thing. I didn’t hear all of the conversation before so thought I missed who it was about.

DickensianHysteric · 02/09/2018 22:50

Ah, I completely forgot about the Chief Whip being her ex husband, thank you! Makes a bit more sense now...

ScoobyGangMember · 02/09/2018 23:01

We haven't seen any more of the disgruntled former employee and her mysterious chauffeur in expensive car. Surely she'll be back.

forgivenminds · 02/09/2018 23:01

Have we seen the PM in any episode yet ?

NoisyBrain · 02/09/2018 23:04

Katie Yes, of course! Well, not quite 'of course' if LoD storylines anything to go by, but I'm liking that theory given where the blast came from.

DoryNow · 02/09/2018 23:09

I think Rob set up the new Asian PA as he hates the fact that Julia has another aide not just him being Mr Indispensible & he fancied Julia & was crushed last week. Whether or not he knew there was a bomb in the case (concealed so Dave didn't see it?) or nearby is debatable.

I agree Cockney female bodyguard saw Asian PA approaching from side with suitcase & panicked, Dave was trying to intercept (or did he see something else).

Surely he'd have shouted a warning to Julia if he thought she was in danger?

All the men around Julia are trying to stitch her up - her Ex the Chief Whip who thinks she has eyes on No 10.

The security chief who is trying to double cross everyone it seems but doesn't like Julia doing her own thing.

Rob trying to elbow the new PA out the way as his ego is hurt that she rejected him

The women police chiefs too, both trying to get info out of David who is deperately trying to give them enough to keep his family safe, without betraying Julia & he doesn't know WTF she is up to either!

Gahhhhhddd ....going to watch it again tomorrow think I missed some bits Grin

KnotsInMay · 02/09/2018 23:11

I think Kitty is in to something.

So if the info on the tablet revealed the PM to be a cocaine using rapist, did she go there to blackmail the PM into supporting her bill?

Or, re ‘the big reshuffle’ did she go to Chequers to tell the PM about another senior person. Such as her ex husband?

Beardy aide is a red herring, BUT slimy Rob did set Lavender up to give a duff speech. Why would he do that?

KnotsInMay · 02/09/2018 23:14

It wasn’t disgruntled intern who ran in late to the talk, was it? Nah, SlashDave would have recognised her.

FermatsTheorem · 02/09/2018 23:15

Also: surely there is no way the person on duty outside the home sec's door over night wouldn't hear a) the shagging and b) the scared noises when he nearly strangled her?

I've been wondering that too.

Also think beardie guy was being set up to take the fall, and that the aim last-minute switch was humiliation rather than a bomb threat. And I'm pretty sure the mystery tablet had dirt on someone who'd been guilty of a sexual assault, not Dave/David's medical records. I too think it's dirt on the PM.

I am however very puzzled as to why they can't ID a former soldier - surely prints/ photos/ etc. would be on file.

It's tosh, but very enjoyable tosh. I'm rather enjoying the "not one good person among 'em aspect": you can't work out who's up to what and to what end.

thenightsky · 02/09/2018 23:18

I think I'm going to have to re-watch bits coz I thought the cockney female bodyguard ran to the front and blew herself up!

Gersemi · 02/09/2018 23:20

Well at least we know now about the gun behind the panelling in: it’s scarface’s.

Do we? Unless I've missed something, why would David take the gun away from the scene? Surely that's one of the first things the investigators would have picked up.

I can’t take David’s boss seriously. Just remembering her as the hr director in green wing

You need to watch Scott and Bailey, she was very good as a senior police officer in that.

Also: surely there is no way the person on duty outside the home sec's door over night wouldn't hear a) the shagging and b) the scared noises when he nearly strangled her?

I don't think there was anyone on duty, was there? There wasn't anyone in evidence when David went out to confront Longcross. Presumably they don't think it's needed because that's David's job.

I'm reasonably sure the stuff on the tablet was blackmail material about the PM, hence the fact that the PM wouldn't say what Julia had come to talk about but was also talking about a heavy duty reshuffle.

Gersemi · 02/09/2018 23:21

I thought Rob was setting beardy aide up rather than Julia.

MissEliza · 02/09/2018 23:24

I don't believe there was a bomb in the briefcase - the Asian guy wouldn't have opened it up to David.

KnotsInMay · 02/09/2018 23:25

“Do we? Unless I've missed something, why would David take the gun away from the scene? Surely that's one of the first things the investigators would have picked up.”
They said they had not been able to find his gun!
I would guess the gun was military issue or very indentifying in some way.

DoryNow · 02/09/2018 23:27

Knots Bc Slimy Rob was slapped down when he tried to get Julia on her own for that intimate lunch that never happened last week.

Don't think he wants to kill her but he wanted to humiliate her & land his rival (as he sees it) in hot water so he can be Golden Boy again. Possibly having his strings pulled by higher ups?

DoryNow · 02/09/2018 23:29

"Well at least we know now about the gun behind the panelling in: it’s scarface’s.

Do we? Unless I've missed something, why would David take the gun away from the scene? Surely that's one of the first things the investigators would have picked up."

No Scarface's gun was kept by the investigating team & at one point hey commented that the gun was untraceable & the guy was too & so they smelt a rat.

sheepsheep · 02/09/2018 23:30

I think I'm going to have to re-watch bits coz I thought the cockney female bodyguard ran to the front and blew herself up!

That is what I thought too.

He told her to go back to door two, and then suddenly she is running towards the stage.

I am confused though. Is Gina McKee trying to kill her? Wasn't it Julia's ex husband who said something "needed done" after she went to chequers?

Getting mixed up with all the similar looking male actors and who they all are meant to be.

Who is the older man with the glasses that sits in on her meetings? I think I am going to have to watch it again from the start.
