K-Drama recommendations

A K-drama thread was suggested on the Netflix subtitled gems thread so we can discuss in more depth without swamping the other thread. There are a lot of Korean films & boxsets on Netflix and I’m discovering the quality is variable, so I thought this would be a goid place to swap recommendations (and ‘avoids’). So far, I have hugely enjoyed:

  • Something in the Rain
  • Mr Sunshine (new episodes still dropping weekly)
  • Live

Would also love to hear how closely these dramas represent real life in Korea from anyone who has lived there. Its fascinating learning about another culture.

I don’t think Bea has watched Prison Playbook yet. That surely is mention-worthy.

Oh yes Prison Playbook is a must! Firmly on my favourites list and glad to see baseball player in Memories of the Alhambra with a better haircut. Speaking of which, what was the giveaway for the hotel room filmed in Korea? No windows?

I think Bea is on a Ji Chang Wook roll though! These things have to be done. I recommend Healer before The K2 as a warm up to action-man JCW. The K2 is good but the chemistry between the leads in it isn't as crackling, in fact the 2nd FL has a better noona spark with JCW.

Speaking of which, what was the giveaway for the hotel room filmed in Korea? No windows?

It was the signature chirrup of the electronic door lock. ML’s hotel room in Barcelona.

Oh! Yes! I'm on a JCW spiral at the moment but there's just not enough time in the day!!.... Me? Sit down? In the middle of the day?? To watch telly!? Inconceivable!!

At the moment putting up Xmas lights! Started watching Healer!.. Those first 10 mins with gratuitous hot bod shots! 😳😳... I was blushing!!

Finished Beautiful Gong Shim but really don't get the love for it. Also disappointed there wasn't much comeuppance for crap sister.

One more ep for Alhambra this week then it's a new drama for me.
Maybe Argon
or Arang and the Magistrate (drama cool)
or Radio Romance (drama bus)
or Where Stars Land (Viki)

I like The Master’s Sun. You’re about the FL when she’s drunk. Most entertaining. It’s right old fluff, but endearing fluff.

Healer.. Ep5!... 😳😎... Sooo many twists and turns!! That's what I love about these kdramas... They never head the way I think it's going... (cos basically it's usually implausible or highly coincidental!) but I'm thoroughly enjoying it! It's ace!!

Healer is great fun, all the other characters are great too, I love the dad's con-men friends. Took me a while to work out what the hell was going on though!

Yikes I dipped my toe into The Great Seducer (drama cool, based on Les Liaisons Dangereuses / Cruel Intentions) thinking it'd while away my coffee break but not be addictive as it has none of my favourites in but now I'm hooked!!!

Yes, and even though the plot may be recycled they seem able to put a new spin on it. What I'm watching has some lovely humour in it eg gorgeous young man giving old ladies in a retirement home piggyback rides to cheer them up. That definitely wasn't in the original Liaisons Dangereuses.

JCW can rock any look! The cold may be why they seem to wear full hoodies & knitwear to bed!

In the 7 months I've been watching kdrama I've just had my first sight of a packet of condoms Shock Shock Racy!!

What a lovely way to start the day! Though it did mean I had to refresh my memory & go look at the K2 shower scene again 😆😆

I’d post the link but it’s a bit tooo naughty though in typical kdrama style they have blurred the relevant bits. Must’ve been a field day for the special effects team ☺️😉😂
