I'm loving the scenes of Mike phoning Alma from Harrogate on a payphone, feeding in 10ps. How times have changed!

They went to three episodes a week a while ago. It was when Alan Bradley met his maker under that Blackpool tram.

I’m a bit behind at the moment. I’d forgotten how amusement arcades were seen as a den of iniquity. Iirc Zammo from Grange Hill hung out and bought drugs in one in the Just Say No days.

Watching it now it makes no sense that he was with her. He was desperate for kids surely he would want to be with a younger woman

I don’t remember Mike Baldwin ever being desperate for kids. I thought he was all about his business and trying to gain control of Ingrams

Ironic that he haf three sons that he had littlecto do with that car phone i remember my parents friends having one and my paremts phoned me on it once thinling it was the height of sophistication

He was desperate for kids when married to Susan (Ken's daughter). It was part of what drove them apart as he expected her to be a SAHM and move to a big pile in the countryside that he had bought.

I do hate how Alma twitters around him, approving of his nastiness though. "Oh, Mike".

I think Alma is the "good enough for now" girlfriend. She saved his bacon by moving in with him as it allowed him to keep hold of his flat.

Housewife2010 I was about to say the same thing. I am enjoying seeing how life turns out for the characters.

I remember my main Christmas present from 1990. No 7 Treasures. It was No 7 make up in a box shaped like a treasure chest. A Christmas present from DM.

I remember the lipsticks had little pictures or drawings of Christmas candles on them. I cant remember what little pictures were on the other items as it was so long ago. Obviously the items are long gone but i still have the treasure chest shaped box. DH uses it to keep bits + bobs in.

I was always struck by how glamorous and beautiful Alma was. That glorious cloud of dark hair and those amazing eyes. Stylish too.

It always seemed wrong, somehow, to see her working in the cafe - especially being a co-owner.

In fact, I always thought that she and Mike were quite well-suited.

Quite a handsome 'power couple' for the brave new 1990s!

The actress that played Alma was in her mid fifties at the time(which i think i knew) the actress that played Jackie was only in her 30,s they look around the same age

AamdC they do!! Alma was very stylish, never any grease
spots on those silk shirts. I think Johnnie Briggs (Mike) must have liked Alma a lot better than the Susan actress. He always went in for a big kiss with Alma and wide smiles for her but with Susan he held back with chaster kisses and no smiles. He claimed he ate garlic before having to kiss Susan as they disliked each other so much.

The scenes where Mavis met Victor's new wife and later in the restaurant, soo funny, totally classic!

i cant believe this is 28 years ago.
