And Kyle is out.

Shame for Kyle, I thought he could do well here.

Raahh · 27/08/2018 19:41

Well done to Stan!!

I knew he'd do it.

Grigor's nightmare year continues.

Yeah he's having a shocker old Grigor - it's a shame - I love his style of play. But... Go Stanimal!!

Fizzywinegum · 27/08/2018 19:55

Oh dear Kyles’s not had a good run recently.

Well done to Stan - Dimitrov looks a bit lost these days.

Murray pulled it back to 1 set all - not sure how he’s going to cope with a long match - there was some discussion about Duckworth taking a too long toilet break and changing his underwear - tmi!

Raahh · 27/08/2018 19:59

Fizzy ewwwwGrin

I don't know how Murray will cope with best of 5, he'll need it to be over quickly, I think- he really got tired the other week as the matches went on.

I’m still not convinced about amazon prime - moving between matches seems to take ages. Teenage DS is telling me that this is the future - I feel old!

The crowd are being annoying already - taking ages to sit down with mountains of food. Murray is complying about them - it’s not like Wimbledon.

MirandaWest · 27/08/2018 20:14

DH said that Duckworth’s shorts looked soaked with sweat so he may well have needed to change them I suppose

Raahh · 27/08/2018 20:20

Fizzy if this is the future, bring back Ceefax Grin

Yes please Raahh Grin

Fizzywinegum · 27/08/2018 20:27

Miranda yes it does look very hot and humid out there - think it’s about 31 degrees.

Could be another tiebreak in the third set for Murray.

Fizzywinegum · 27/08/2018 20:30

Ooh third set to Murray - just needs to get one more for the match.

Raahh · 27/08/2018 20:30

OK, I'm being a bit of a grump, and I know it's the US open, so they are the 'home' players- but I still think it's wrong that Halep (world number 1) played on Armstrong (still a show court, I know, but still), and both the Williams' sisters (neither of whom are defending champions, or seeded close in the top 10) are playing on Ashe.

It would not happen to Federer. And probably never has.

(It would happen to Rafa).

This crowd is getting on my nerves as well. It is all about the food though!!

Is this Jim Courier commentating on the Murray match?

PrivateParkin · 27/08/2018 20:35

This camera angle is giving me vertigo Envy

Fizzywinegum · 27/08/2018 20:36

I’m not sure who’s commentating Private - don’t think it’s Courier.

PrivateParkin · 27/08/2018 20:39

It sounds a familiar voice but I can't work out who it is!! It's bugging me Grin

Raahh · 27/08/2018 20:41

Definitely all about the food- it must be a cultural thing . I asked dh (he was brought up in the US - American father/British mother, came over here when they divorced, he was about 12?, went back briefly in his late teens- his brother lived there for a ling time - came over here a few years ago before MIL passed away) No delicate strawberries- it's big pitchers of beer, and corn dogs. And it's noisy. Which is fine at the base ball. At the tennis, not so much.

I wonder if they make more money in food than ticket sales? Like cinema chains?

I wouldn't be surprised Raahh! Last year we went to a baseball game (apols if I'm repeating myself) an it was just a massive pigging out session!! The food was really good too - but people were constantly getting up to get stuff, and/or the guy would come around with stuff pretty much constantly. As you said, at baseball it's ok, at tennis it doesn't seem a great fit does it?!

MirandaWest · 27/08/2018 20:46

I am also feeling slightly dizzy with the camera angles

Fizzywinegum · 27/08/2018 20:47

They probably do Raahh - I’m sure it says no strong smelling food court side at Wimbledon Smile. Can’t see that going down too well at the us open.

PrivateParkin · 27/08/2018 21:33

Why are they suddenly calling it "Lewis" Armstrong?! Hmm I thought it was pronounced as in Louie??

Maybe I need a short break from watching tennis?!

PrivateParkin · 27/08/2018 21:35

Aw Lopez is out, to Verdasco. I hope he carries on playing next year. Tough on him losing all those points from the grass season and his ranking dropping s much over the summer.

I think Verdasco is Murray's next opponent, is that right?

Mama1980 · 27/08/2018 21:37

I think it is cultural. I spent sometime in the states a long while ago now but I was amazed at the sheer amount of food everywhere, I always remember people coming and going to buy hotdogs etc during a performance in LA And at sport it was even crazier.
Nothing wrong with it but definitely a cultural difference there. Wimbledon would never stand for it though!
I'm really trying not to get too irritated with the broadcast but it's difficult........

Raahh · 27/08/2018 21:44

Mama I'm getting very frustrated. It's spoiling it for me- and I had low expectations, because it has always been my least favourite of the slams , anyway.

The Aussie Open was annoying this year too, from purely a tv armchair spectator point of view- again a lot of wandering spectators/food/noise. I didn't see it quite as much at RG (but they are martyrs to their meal times over there, and I can't imagine a lot of snacking going on).
