Yes I think so Private - should hopefully get to see some of it if it starts at 9pm our time.

Raahh · 25/08/2018 17:51

I've remembered I can't record it now, which has annoyed me.

And I upset my mum yesterday, who had not idea about the whole Amazon prime thing (although I'm sure I've told her), and it's one thing she doesn't have (despite spending a small fortune on sky sports packages/ virgin/netflix etc).

She's not happy.

But she goes to Portugal on Monday for a few day and will miss it anyway, so it is moot.

My granny, on the other hand, is another matter. No-one has told her yet. ShockHmm.

Bloody Sky/Eurosport messing up the tennis. Angry.

So is the US Open only available on Amazon Prime?

How I long for the day when all TV is available as pay per view.

PrivateParkin · 25/08/2018 19:41

Raahh I feel annoyed on their behalf! It makes me really mad - we pay so much for Sky (as I've probably ranted on about before) and now there will be no tennis on there at all. They pay a ridiculous amount for the Premier League as though it's the only show in town! Argh!! It makes me so mad.

PrivateParkin · 25/08/2018 19:48

magi yes it's only on Amazon prime in the uk. It's not that much per month (I think it's £5.99 or £7.99) but obviously it's a faff if you don't have a fire stick or whatever they're called Angry

I suppose in fairness, I remember the days when you couldn't get the US Open over here at all - just had to check Ceefax for the results! So it could be worse. It's still annoying though.

Raahh · 26/08/2018 20:45

I'm getting excited- even though it's my least favourite slam. I'm not as confident about being able to watch, though.

I've been reading a lot - I think Djok is probably the favourite really (not that I want him to be). Federer desperately wants to win it- even though he hasn't since 2008. Fed fans on facebook are moaning about Rafa's 'easy' draw- never happy, are they? Federer now has Djok in his draw, like Rafa had at Wimbledon. And he's avoided Delpo. They ought to be pleased. He can't just be given the trophy. Grin.

Rafa winning would be amazing - but it's not really likely. I'd love it to happen though.

I want Stan to have a good run.

I'd love Delpo to have a shot- but I think his recent wrist injury might be significant.

The ATP site has a couple of articles that are trying to big up Murray- but I'm not convinced- even given how Djok regained his form, I think Murray is still a way off . But I'm probably wrong Grin.

Private oh, the days of checking CeefaxGrin. And then waiting aaaaages for the pages to scroll when you missed somthing.

And they always made the page purple and green for Wimbledon! Grin
I remember , as well, calling really expensive phone numbers from a call box to get tennis results in my teens . ( my parents thought I was at the library).

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 26/08/2018 21:32

I think Djokovic as well Raahh. They were saying on the Tennis Podcast today that they don't think he'll win it - that it's mentally too tough to win two Slams in a row etc. I think they picked Federer but I can't remember now.

I would put Cilic as a good dark horse though: playing well, former champ, has a good draw. The main concern is how ruthless can he be??

I fear for Delpo as well. Still, he seems to be enjoying himself, what with the astronaut chat, going to see Bruce Springsteen on Broadway etc Grin

PrivateParkin · 26/08/2018 21:36

Yes it's like another world, thinking of Ceefax/phone boxes etc. I remember my sister and I ringing the BBC (! Don't know how we got the number) and asking them if they were going to be showing the US Open one year! It seems mad now.

Btw Amazon has got an "explanation" on their website of how to tune in to the tennis... But I just felt overwhelmed by technology when I read it!

PrivateParkin · 26/08/2018 21:38

PS podcast also said that amazon coverage starts at 4.30pm tomorrow - Stan v Dimitrov at 5pm, first show court match! But to be fair, they didn't seem that convinced of the timings, so I think I'll double check!

BagelGoesWalking · 26/08/2018 22:06

I'm really pissed off it's on Amazon. 😩 I guess I'll have to see if I can pay for a month but, even then, time difference make it a bit of a bugger.

JaneJeffer · 27/08/2018 08:25

Not going to get to see these two or anyone else Sad

First full week of school and of course it's raining, you lucky lot having a Bank Holiday!

(The app is playing up again so sorry if this posts twice.)

magimedi · 27/08/2018 08:27

Private - I feel exactly the same. Do I want more tech in my house that I don't fully understand? Am I a luddite?

PrivateParkin · 27/08/2018 08:40

Jane omg that picture!!! Grin I've never seen that before - hilarious!! Hope back to school goes well. The weather's rubbish here as well, so I doubt we'll be doing much.

That's the thing magi and Bagel - setting up Amazon requires effort and cash, for something which is not what I want anyway (I have still done it though - albeit reluctantly). Why can't we just have one thing that provides everything - such as tv?!?! With no ads!

JaneJeffer · 27/08/2018 08:46

Private I'd put up with ads if it was on TV! DS informed me Amazon are having a free trial when I was moaning about US Open not being on. It's just for a week and then you can get it at a reduced rate for a while but like you said it's all so confusing! Bad time of year money-wise too so I think I won't bother.

Raahh · 27/08/2018 08:48

It's a pain in the neck, is what it is, magi .Grin

I have been trying to work out Amazon Prime, but because the tournament hasn't started yet, the bit it's meant to be on keeps flipping to something else. I can see that I'm going to get cross. And tired.

I'll miss FerrerSad. Rafa and David have a huge amount of respect for each other, and it will be a very emotional match, I think. As the defending champion, a lot rides on it for Rafa. Ferrer will want to give it his best.

The US open web site seem to have had a re-vamp- and is rubbish this year. I wish they wouldn't do that. It was never one of the easiest to use as it was.

We've had Amazon Prime for a while- dh got it for something ages ago- to be honest, the delivery service is no longer as good as it was, and (as discussed alreadyGrin) I've never bothered with the tv/video bit- so really it's not worth the £7.99 a month we pay. Well, I didn't think it was- but then I remembered all the stuff dh gets delivered for football, and he also gets a lot of audio books. It comes into it's own at Christmas, I suppose.

But I've never needed the video/tv bit! Til now. And it seems faffy and complicated, and I bet my youngest child, won't work all that well, or it will freeze constantly (like catch up tv does).
I'm not hopeful.

I get used to the Ads- I get immune to then during RG, when ITV4 seem to play the same advert for the whole fortnight, every 5 minutes. It's either that or having to listen to Andrew Castle's picnic tips, I suppose Grin.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 27/08/2018 09:09

Yes, and we all know which we prefer! The picnic tips, of course Grin

Raahh · 27/08/2018 09:24
Grin

And 'Nature watch- with Andrew Castle'.

Far better than Spring Watch.

'Ooh look, a butterfly. I think it's a cabbage white'

5 minutes later...

'Another butterfly...probably the same cabbage white' Grin

It's educational, tennis.

Yes it does look as if the Stan/dimitrov match will be on at about 5pm - the time difference is frying my brain already!

I also think it’s unfair that it’s on amazon prime - we’ve only got it because my student DS has it and we can get it on our telly (not really sure how!). We already pay a fortune for sky so reluctant to pay out any more.

Will be interesting to see how it all works - I’ve put it in my watch list - it looks as if there’s live tennis and a highlights thing. DHs face fell last night when he realised that the tennis was starting again - hee hee!

Was planning on going out for the day but the weather is a bit rubbish.

I had a dream about Andy Murray last night - I had to buy him a birthday present and didn’t know what to get him (very odd!)

Raahh · 27/08/2018 10:57

Fizzy GrinVery bizarre. What would you buy Andy Murray? Grin
It just hasn't stopped raining here. I've just taken the dog out. He wasn't happy.

We are off to sort out dh's new glasses- they were wrong the other day, so he needs another eye test. I also need to sort out school shirts for dd1- who discovered on Saturday that none of her uniform fit. Hmm

Rock and Roll bank holiday Grin.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 27/08/2018 11:35

Fizzy Grin to be fair, he would be a nightmare to buy for & he's surely got everything he needs, and you couldn't even use the old booze/chocolate fall backs as he probably doesn't eat/drink them.

It's a problem Grin

PrivateParkin · 27/08/2018 11:36

Raahh yes I'm about to start ironing on some name tapes while DH goes to the tip Hmm joy!

BagelGoesWalking · 27/08/2018 11:39

Thing is, we already have Netflix and Now tv. Had Netflix for ages and added Now a few months ago after we got rid of the Sky package and realised Now had some things I wanted to watch and gets Sky films etc. Neither is expensive but it all adds up when you include Virgin broadband etc. DH is rattling on a bit about Now as we gave up Sky Sports package to save money which had all his football (but he finds most online). I did remind him that's it still less that one ticket to our local cinema.

DD opened a new HSBC student account which gets her Student Prime. Should get it actually opened sometime this week so I may be able to nick her log in for a few bits of tennis.

Anyway, all those who have it, enjoy the tennis on Amazon! I'll enjoy keeping up with the news on here.

PrivateParkin · 27/08/2018 13:01

Bagel fingers crossed for student Prime!
If anyone has 4h 55m to spare Hmm Wimbledon has put the whole of the Rafa-Delpo QF on their YouTube channel today. I'm just watching it while I do the school uniform labels (which in fairness, probably will take me almost 5hrs).
