Ha - true! It doesn't sound like the lap of luxury does it?!

I saw a video of Fed signing autographs as well - he was absolutely surrounded by fans all shouting to him and jostling etc - it wasn't exactly scary but I don't think I would find it enjoyable either if I were him! Confused

That's funny about Kyrgios - I kind of see where he's coming from though.

kazzaD66 · 18/08/2018 19:45

Love the Djokovic clip private Grin

PrivateParkin · 18/08/2018 20:01

Ha I know, it made me laugh. "Mamma Mia!" Grin

PrivateParkin · 18/08/2018 20:32

Ooh Novak got away with it there - thought Cilic was going to break him in that last game. Hmm. I would have thought Marin would have to get the first set to win this...

Raahh · 18/08/2018 21:23

am glad to see Marin has levelled the match.

What time is it in Cincinnati? They've still got 2 more semis to play after the Cilic match.

PrivateParkin · 18/08/2018 21:48

They're five hours behind I think, so almost 5pm over there. It must go into a "night session" - I don't really know tbh.

kazzaD66 · 18/08/2018 22:26

Thanks private . I can't get to grips with the US hardcourt season, esp as I can't watch any of it. I think it was discussed on here the other day how the yanks are in thrall to the tv cos and advertisers, to the detriment of the players and attendant fansHmm . Can't get my head around playing in the early hours of the morning!

I see that Djokovic has beaten Cilic unfortunately Sad

PrivateParkin · 18/08/2018 23:16

kazza it is crazy. The time difference makes it worse, but I think it's pretty bad anyway. Roger v Goffin is scheduled as "not before midnight" our time, so I'll definitely be in bed by then!

Yes it was a shame about Cilic as he is playing really well. That match was very close, points-wise, but the result felt inevitable throughout, do you know what I mean? I think there were only two points in it at the end, but it never felt like Cilic really could have won it.

If Roger wins later, this will be the first final he's played against Djokovic for almost 3 years apparently.

Raahh I forgot Novak was going for the Masters complete set. So if he wins this, he's won everything basically (except Olympic gold - any others missing??). No-one else has done it, I didn't realise that - just assumed someone would have. No wonder he's so mad for it.

Fizzywinegum · 19/08/2018 08:32

Ooh it’s going to be Roger v Novak in the final at 9pm uk time I think - should be a good match. Novak will definitely want this one - would be a pretty amazing achievement - but Roger will also want to send a message out before us open I’m sure.

Cilic has criticised the tournament saying that his match against Djokovic was the first of his match on the grandstand court which put him at a disadvantage as it played differently from the outside courts.
I always feel that Cilic gets a bit of a rough deal - at Wimbledon he was always on the outside courts and I think the same thing happened at the Australian Open. It’s the first time I’ve heard him complaining about it though.

magimedi · 19/08/2018 08:45

Come on Rogger! (And I don't often say that).

Agree re Cilic - he always seems to be sidelined.

Raahh · 19/08/2018 10:15

I fell asleep as usual Grin.

I agree re- Cilic, I really like him- but I always get the impression he isn't taken seriously , by the media or even other top players as a real 'top' contender, despite what he's achieved.

Private yy- I think an Olympic gold is basically all he's missing, big titles wise. (if he wins this).

I see that Murray and Soares are in the doubles final. Despite what he has achieved and seeing him play at Wimbledon this year with Azarenka, I always think Jamie is not that great Confused . He can play some great shots but he also makes some dreadful shot selections and often seems to continue with a tactic that clearly isn't working (return of serve placement usually!). He often moves across the court too soon at the net and ends up leaving a gaping hole down the tramlines for his opponents to fire down a passing shot! Plus, he walks funny, as though he's wearing in a couple of new hips for someone Grin
Aside from that, I hope he wins. You have to feel a bit sorry for him having to watch his younger brother achieve all that he has. Did I read somewhere that he was going great guns until his early teens and then Judy or someone switched something around and it put him right back? Something happened, I think, but I can't remember exactly what Hmm

PrivateParkin · 19/08/2018 13:33

That's really interesting about Jamie Murray Kazza. I've seen him play as well - at the O2 when he was partnering John Peers. Tbh I can't remember much about it, it was about 3-4 years ago I think. And I have to say I rarely watch doubles on TV either - I hadn't even realised Cincinnati included doubles until the mentioned the final last night!

I don't know about the sibling dynamic. To be fair, JM has had a good career himself. In a way I think I'd rather have his career than Andy's - less pressure etc. Actually what am I saying - I don't think anything can beat winning a singles slam in your own country!

JaneJeffer · 19/08/2018 13:49

I had a rare night out and the tennis was over when I got in. My attempts at being French were a failure as I drank too much beer and feel a bit groggy today. Merde!

Fizzywinegum · 19/08/2018 15:04

Grin Jane hope you didn’t have to resort to using one of those outdoor urinals! Hope the hangover isn’t too bad.

PrivateParkin · 19/08/2018 15:25
Grin Hope you had a good night Jane. I ended up trying to sort out toys Hmm as my DH went to Ikea yesterday and bought about a hundred Kallax organisers! So I was trying to sort that out while watching - it's still not done.

I'm glad the final is on at a decent time. I've hardly seen Roger play this week so I don't know what his chances are, but Djokovic is looking very good.

I agree about Cilic and I'm glad he spoke up about the court scheduling. He needs to be more ruthless! No more Mr Nice Guy!

Fizzywinegum · 19/08/2018 21:14

Why does the tennis always start later than advertised? Don’t they know about my bedtime!

Raahh · 19/08/2018 21:15

just seen the scores for the women's final- sadly it looks like Halep has once again thrown away a match she looked like she was winning ( going off the scores). Bertens is running away with the 3rd set.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 19/08/2018 21:28

Yes the women’s final took longer than expected - Bertens won in the end.

JaneJeffer · 19/08/2018 21:29

Is it raining there? I thought it would have started by now.

JaneJeffer · 19/08/2018 21:37

Annabel has another lovely orange dress.

PrivateParkin · 19/08/2018 21:41

It must be because of the women's final going on for so long. Halep must be exhausted tbf - didn't she win in Montreal? That's a lot of matches, but yes you'd expect her to have won today.

Now, where are Roger and Novak?? I've got my wine and twiglets all prepared Grin

Raahh · 19/08/2018 22:21

I'm following the scores, whilst watching more rubbish episodes of 'Tales of the Unexpected'. Grin

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 19/08/2018 22:23

I haven't had twiglets for years! I'd love some crisps but they've all disappeared. Might have to settle for toast and marmite.

Looking good for Djok at the moment.
