Oh no Grigor!!! Argh I jinxed him Shock

PrivateParkin · 17/08/2018 01:05

Ah it's raining - really coming down. The players are still on court Confused

JaneJeffer · 17/08/2018 01:11

That's some rain! There's no getting away from it for most of the spectators.

PrivateParkin · 17/08/2018 01:33

I know, it looks terrible! The tennis has been good but I think I'm going to call it a night. Stupid weather!

Fizzywinegum · 17/08/2018 08:44

I didn’t get to see any tennis in the end but I’ve enjoyed catching up on your Christmas film chat Grin

The Holiday is my secret guilty pleasure at Christmas time - not sure if I could watch it in August though. My DH is a big Love Actually fan ( but I’m not!)

Delpo v Krygios should be interesting if they ever get back on court. Kyrgios admitted to tanking in one of his matches - don’t know how he gets away with it. He must have to pay more out in fines than he gets in prize money.

Yes I bet Rafa is really pleased that he passed on Cincinnati - wonder how Roger is coping?

PrivateParkin · 17/08/2018 10:07

Fizzy Grin I do love The Holiday although it's so cheesy. I like all the references to and clips of old films especially. But yes it was a bit much watching it in August, I don't know why I ended up doing that!

Looking forward to Delpo-Kyrgios too. Come on Delpo!!

PrivateParkin · 17/08/2018 10:09

PS the schedule for today in Cincinnati is crazy - they have to fit in all the women's matches as well (which I've sort of forgotten about, because I haven't seen any of them). I think everyone who wins will be playing twice in one day, in theory anyway - including Roger Shock

JaneJeffer · 17/08/2018 11:35

That's madness. Why not let them do rock, paper, scissors instead so they can get caught up? Grin

We have Cincinnati style rain here today. Horrible.

PrivateParkin · 17/08/2018 12:50

Grin they should definitely do that.

It's quite a nice day here for a change, but DS just wants to stay in and play with Lego Hmm

Raahh · 17/08/2018 14:51

I think the main problem with US schedules is the insistence on starting matches so late to please the tv broadcasters. If they really wanted to avoid he weather problems then they would play earlier in the day and pack more in, but then they might risk not getting the audiences I suppose. I always feel the US swing is far less about the players and more about sponsors , networks and money.

Which is probably the case at most tournaments, but it seems heightened during the US hard court season.

Rock paper scissors definitely sound like the way to goGrin.

It's mad isn't it? They refuse to start play before 11am even on a perfectly nice sunny day, but it's fine to play into the early hours?! Confused

PrivateParkin · 17/08/2018 15:39

They should start at about 7am, like golf Grin

Fizzywinegum · 17/08/2018 16:21

Looking very damp again in Cincinnati - I think the whole tournament should be decided by riock, paper, scissors now!

I agree Raahh US tournaments definitely seem to be more dictated to by tv, advertising and sponsorship - usually to the detriment of the players and the fans.

Not sure about the 7am start though - Foggy wouldn’t be impressed Grin

Just wondering if I’ll ever get to see any of this tournament.

It’s really tough for the players if they do have to play 2 matches in a day. Don’t know what will happen if it rains again today.

Fizzywinegum · 17/08/2018 16:23

Hurray Delpo and Krygios (boo!) are on court - it’s looking very gloomy Sad

PrivateParkin · 17/08/2018 17:24

DelPo is hitting a lot of sliced backhands in this match

PrivateParkin · 17/08/2018 17:25

Ha as I said that he hit a 2handed BH winner

Raahh · 17/08/2018 17:31

I'm glad to see he's got the first the set.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 17/08/2018 17:33

Yes - by hitting the ball right at Kyrgios! Grin

Raahh · 17/08/2018 17:47

That sounds like a good tactic- Private Grin

Kyrgios is giving it everything in this match - it's great to see.

PrivateParkin · 17/08/2018 18:20

Annoying to play a third set though when whoever wins will have to play again later. Time to bring in the rock, paper scissors Grin

PrivateParkin · 17/08/2018 18:21

Omg there are only about 10 people watching Cilic-Kachanov!

Raahh · 17/08/2018 18:37

I really wanted Juan to win the match easily, if he's got to play later.

Come on Delpo!

OP posts:
Raahh · 17/08/2018 18:53

Well, he closed out the third set quickly enough.

That's good.
