The other night they were on about how Tsitsipas nearly drowned so I had a Google. His dad had to rescue him when he got dragged out too far to sea and couldn't swim back. I think he was 16 at the time.

Fizzywinegum · 15/08/2018 17:33

They were also saying that one of Tsitsipas’s friends had been injured in the recent Greek fires - I think he wrote a message about it on the camera at the end of one of his matches.

I like it that he’s a bit different - he looks as if he’s from another era. He’s also very articulate for a just 20 year old.

Where is Rafa? Is he hiding out somewhere?

Raahh · 15/08/2018 19:01

I remember thinking when I watched him at Wimbledon , Tsitsitpas looked like he could be immortalised as an an ancient Greek statueGrin.

Mannarino has taken the first set in his match against Djok,

I'm watching the Djok match as I love him now. He had the trainer out and took some pills (I've got the sound off so not sure what was up with him) but it didn't seem to affect him much as he won the second set pretty comfortably and has a break in the third.

He's wearing some nice green shorts also.

Zverev is out I see. If last week was "pathetic", what will he say about this week?!

Fizzywinegum · 15/08/2018 19:38

Yes he does look like a Greek statue Raahh

Djokovokiv has taken the second set and is 2-0 up in the third.

PrivateParkin · 15/08/2018 19:41

Btw, I was reading about Amazon's coverage of the US Open earlier. They are going to have Annabel, Greg etc and Jimmy Connors as analysts which sounds good. But they are not going to have any way to record or replay matches Sad I hadn't realised that. So if you want to watch it, it has to be live, AFAIK - which is a bit of an issue with the time difference.

Raahh · 15/08/2018 19:57

private that is rubbish about Amazon.

I saw Djok found his way back into the match- and yy- what will Sascha say about his loss to Haase?

OP posts:
Raahh · 15/08/2018 19:59

My mum will hate not being able to record things- she records everything and watches later ( I don't really like to not watch live- I get too impatient and check the scores anyway).

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 15/08/2018 20:06

Raahh same, I usually end up watching live as well to be fair, but say if I'd missed a really good match and everyone was talking about it etc, I'd still watch on catch up or highlights the next day even if I knew the score. So it feels a bit weird not to have the option, if you know what I mean.

Sasha did not look impressed with that loss (as you'd expect) and he had some problems with his shoes during it, apparently!

PrivateParkin · 16/08/2018 01:38

Waiting for Delpo... I said I wouldn't stay up this late but somehow here I am..

Meantime I watched Tsitsipas in the doubles (they lost) but he hit at least one diving volley - on a hard court!! Ouch.

JaneJeffer · 16/08/2018 11:16

If I'd known you were up Private we could have had a chat Grin they showed a clip of Kygrios the other night that you mentioned arguing with the umpire. Fergus Murphy won't be swayed!

I ended up watching Dimitrov. He looked relieved to win but he has a kind of desperate look to him these days. Looks like it's all a struggle for him at the moment.

Unlike Roger the other night who looked like he was just humouring his opponent by having a match with him. Gogowczyk was lovely and smiley and seemed delighted to be playing him.

PrivateParkin · 16/08/2018 13:35

Jane I don't think I'd have been much company for you tbh, as I ended up falling asleep... Mind you, a chat might have kept me awake Grin

I watched Grigor as well, I agree he looks under a lot of pressure with points to defend from last year. I didn't see Roger though.

Because Delpo-Chung was rained off, the winner will have to play twice today, although the forecast for today is rubbish Sad

Fizzywinegum · 16/08/2018 18:32

I thought it must be raining in cincinatti when they were showing the lendl/Sampras final from 1992!

The next time I tuned in there was more discussion about Greg and Annabel’s holiday together and they were talking about the inappropriateness of Greg’s swimwear Shock. The mind boggles!

I wish it would stop raining as I have the house to myself for a change and I would really like to see Delpo. The court was looking a bit like a swimming pool though.

PrivateParkin · 16/08/2018 19:14

Fizzy Shock at the swimwear chat!! They definitely must have needed to fill in time.

I'm so annoyed about this weather and missing Delpo - it was scheduled for a good time over here (ie about now). Typical!

Fizzywinegum · 16/08/2018 19:39

I know Private it’s not often that I get chance to watch tennis in peace - the schedule must be getting pretty backed up.

Greg said that his swimwear came to his knees but budgie smugglers were mentioned Grin

Raahh · 16/08/2018 19:58

ewww to Greg and budgie smugglers Grin

I'm cross at the Cincinnati weather. Grin

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 16/08/2018 20:30

We need to know more about this holiday Grin why is the music still on while they're playing? It's annoying.

JaneJeffer · 16/08/2018 20:33

And they're rained off already.

PrivateParkin · 16/08/2018 21:09

I bet Rafa is glad he gave this a miss.

Raahh · 16/08/2018 21:18

Private oh definitely, especially if it all ends up being back to back matches. That's not the best way to prepare for the US open. It would be his luck to end up injured. Wherever he is hiding Grin I hope he's resting up and keeping dry Grin.

OP posts:
Raahh · 16/08/2018 21:43

Looks like Delpo has finally started his match- hope he can get it over with quickly.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 16/08/2018 22:47

So Delpo has won pretty straightforwardly. He was so slow and ponderous around the court, especially at first, looking like he would rather be anywhere else, then starts reeling off these massive forehands and serves!

He plays thread favourite Grin Kyrgios next - allegedly today but I can't see that happening.

Raahh · 16/08/2018 23:09

thread favourite Grin

Raonic has just won the battle of the Canadians.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 16/08/2018 23:24

Wstching Cilic. The commantators are winding me up by mentioning his loss at Wimbledon and the rain delay!! Yes! I totally blame that scheduling - the only rain of the whole tournament. Arggghhh!

Anyway. Looks like Shaggy gave it a good go earlier, despite the loss.

PrivateParkin · 16/08/2018 23:25

They're now musing on the players' marital status(es)... How about just saying nothing for a bit, eh?!?
