I agree - Murray has been unlucky with his opponents, but it's definitely true that these Masters fields are packed with tough players. Eg Feliciano Lopez had to enter qualifying both in Toronto and this week, and he's lost in qualifying both times! So if even a player of that quality (I know his ranking has gone down a fair bit this year) can't get directly into the tournament, that shows how tough it is, I reckon.

Maybe it would be a good shout for Murray to play Winston Salem - I don't know how many of the top players are going to be there, so he might have more of a chance of a run of matches. Maybe.

PS good win for Shaggy earlier, over Tiafoe (who I also really like)

PrivateParkin · 14/08/2018 18:33

So Chung has beaten Jack Sock (who's having a stinker of a year) and will play Delpo. Tomorrow presumably. Should be good.

I can't get to grips with these first round "byes" and who's playing when Confused

Raahh · 14/08/2018 18:45

Private I think the players who get byes are basically the top 8 seeds(?), so everyone else plays an extra match.

I saw Raonic won his match- he'll be glad to get that out of the way.

Sock has had a bad year, in singles at least. He seems to be doing ok in doubles

What happened to Jack Sock? I saw a tiny bit earlier and he was trashing Chung but then got the trainer out. It obviously went downhill after that.

JaneJeffer · 14/08/2018 18:53

And now Kygrios has the trainer out. What a shame...

PrivateParkin · 14/08/2018 19:00

Yes it looks like the top 8 get a bye, but then some people already seem to have played loads of matches (well ok, 2! But it's confusing me - not too difficult to do, I admit).

I think Federer plays tonight.

PrivateParkin · 14/08/2018 19:00

Jane did you see Kyrgios' volley "tweener"? He just can't help himself.

Raahh · 14/08/2018 19:04

Kyrgios has the trainer out.

That's a real shame.

JaneJeffer · 14/08/2018 19:28

I didn't see that Private. Just catching bits and pieces.

PrivateParkin · 14/08/2018 21:52

So Kyrgios won. And Tsitsipas is out - tough draw getting Goffin in the first round - just 2 days after the Toronto final. Can you imagine doing that?! I'd be knackered just from the travelling, let alone trying to play top level tennis Grin

Raahh · 14/08/2018 21:55

Was a rough deal for Stefanos, and he came through some really big matches last week.

Fizzywinegum · 14/08/2018 22:01

Just saw the end of the Goffin/Tsitsipas match - think Stefanos must still be recovering from last week.

In non tennis news I won the work bake off with my gin and tonic cake Shock. I was so shocked that I forgot to take a picture.

Raahh · 14/08/2018 22:04

Fizzy well done you! Cake

Fizzy - Can we have the recipe? Pretty please.

Can't keep up with the Tennis as don't have BT/sky/eurosport but love hearing all about it from you lot.

JaneJeffer · 14/08/2018 22:12

Well done Fizzy

One of the commentators said Goffin was known as the Justin Bieber of tennis Confused I have no clue what he was on about and could barely hear properly thanks to my noisy DS's.

Fizzywinegum · 14/08/2018 22:13

Thanks guys Smile. I got the recipe from the bbc good food website and followed it almost to the letter apart from the juniper berries and I didn’t use all of the gin syrup. It really did taste like gin and tonic!

PrivateParkin · 14/08/2018 22:26

Congrats Fizzy! That's brill. Am definitely going to check out the recipe!!

I wonder why Goffin is the Justin Bieber of tennis?! Because of his boyish good looks??!

JaneJeffer · 14/08/2018 22:28

When I googled this came up. Looks like they have been drinking the gin Grin but when I clicked on it its just a normal recipe!

Ooh Fizzy - as a lover of G&T, I'll have to search for that recipe Wink . Well done!

JaneJeffer · 14/08/2018 22:32

I'm not a gin drinker but the cake looks lovely.

PrivateParkin · 14/08/2018 22:43

It looks great! I like the sherbet lemon decorations!

Fizzywinegum · 15/08/2018 00:02

Thanks for putting the recipe up Jane that’s the one I used - I didnt put cucumber on mine though!

I also want to know why Goffin is the Justin Bieber of tennis.

magimedi · 15/08/2018 06:53

That cake looks amazing - thanks for the link.

PrivateParkin · 15/08/2018 09:27

Just catching up with the tennis podcast this morning. They're saying Tsitsipas is a bit of a renegade among the "NextGen" gang because he's a bit artsy fartsy and they're mentioning how he went on holiday by himself after Wimbledon and took loads of artistic photos etc (which he posted on social media). I love that. He's a bit unique, that's for sure.

They're also asking: where is Rafa?! Has he gone home or is he hanging around in the States, waiting for the US Open to start??
