Fognini is having such a great season. It would be great if he made the World Tour Finals. He could do it if he keeps this form going into the US Open.

I want him to keep the hairstyle though!!

Jane Judy Murray has been tweeting about the Irish women's hockey team. Didn't they basically have to pay their own way to the tournament?? It's amazing what they've achieved.

Raahh · 05/08/2018 21:02

Private he's 10th in the race at the moment, so in a with a good chance.

At least Juan is comfortably in the running this year, be great to see him there- it was nailbiting at the end of last year, literally only a few points in it as to whether he would qualify or not .

Looking forward to seeing how Rafa gets on this week.

Raahh yes agree, I've got my fingers crossed for JMDP in London. Hopefully he'll make it. I'm hoping to go if possible, I've seen Novak there twice so it would be amazing to see Delpo.

We were out having dinner earlier (last night of hols) and there was a wasp buzzing non-stop around our table. Suddenly the waiter appeared brandishing a fly-swatter, and said "Look: Nadal" in a really deep serious voice, then swatted the wasp dead with a lethal forehand. It was great Grin

Raahh · 05/08/2018 21:22

Private Grin

that is very funny Grin.

Private that is great! Would love to have seen the forehand!

Raahh I have PFGC here atm & the books are going down a storm - I know them all off by heart now!

JaneJeffer · 05/08/2018 23:22

Private I love your waiter Grin

The hockey team did get government funding this year but they're all amateurs, a lot of them are at uni, and those who work have to use up their holidays when they have to travel. They did really well to get so far and the goalkeeper won an award.

Sascha has retained his title and was presented with their brand new trophy which seemed to weigh a ton and had a lethal looking pointy bit. Sascha could barely lift it and then they made him hold it for ages while photos were taken. He ended up leaving it on the ground and kneeling beside it Grin

Magi that's great! All of mine have loved them, and it was funny when they were little getting them to say the dinosaur names.Grin

I think I've read Harry goes on holiday 6 times today........................ Grin

Grin

You will soon be reciting all the names in your sleep. I'm sure I did after a while. They are good books thoughGrin.

Jane I've just noticed the dodgy trophy! Were they trying to kill him?

Rafa would have had trouble biting it Grin.

Back from hols and dad about that, but on the plus side: tennis on TV Grin
Just watching Djokovic v Basic, who I have to say I've never heard of. Cheung, who Novak was due to play, had to withdraw through injury.

I tell you what though, I will not miss the Sky coverage - the ads are awful.

PrivateParkin · 07/08/2018 18:50

Dad?! Don't know what he's got to do with it - should have said sad!!

Honestly, I think I - or my phone - am getting more and more prone to typos...

PrivateParkin · 07/08/2018 18:52

Basic looks basically knackered already - it's only 2-all first set...

I've only just had chance to catch up on the scores properly- I'm delighted to see that Stan beat Kyrgios- that's got to have felt good.

OP posts:
Raahh · 07/08/2018 19:56

Basic seems to be holding his own really, in his match. Not quite the walkover it looked like being.

Thanks for the update Raahh - my tennis viewing didn't last long, as DS came along and asked to watch the Lego Batman movie! So that was the end of the tennis, for now. Never mind.

Yes, great win for Stan!

Btw - not sure if anyone else saw this, but apparently Ferrer has announced he will retire next year, last tournament to be Madrid or Barca. Sad news, although not surprising after recent results/injuries etc. He said the US Open will be his last slam.

Raahh · 07/08/2018 20:23

Very Sadabout Ferrer. He's always been one of my favourites, but the past few years haven't been great.I can't remember the last time I saw him play,

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 07/08/2018 20:45

Same. I saw one of his matches at Eastbourne on TV, but other than that, I haven't seen him play for ages. I saw him in the flesh Grin at Wimbledon v Dolgopolov, as I've probably mentioned 100 times, sorry. It was a great match! I know he (well, his wife, should I say) has had a baby recently, and his announcement about his retirement said he was "happy" with the decision... so fair play to him. But I am sad about it too.

Raahh · 07/08/2018 20:50

Oh, I didn't know know they'd had a baby , how lovely- they are another couple who I think have been together for ages.

I do love him, a real fighter, A shame he didn't win more, but actually he has has had a very solid career, as one of the players not to win a slam.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 07/08/2018 20:56

Yes definitely Raahh - one of the best scrappers out there. Do you remember his QF v Delpo at Wimbledon (2013)? One of the most exciting matches I've ever seen.

PrivateParkin · 07/08/2018 20:58

Well Batman has finally finished so I'm back to the tennis! My DS is impressed with Felix A-A!!

Raahh · 07/08/2018 21:03

Private I really thought Delpo was going to default that match because he fell into the side lines(did he fall over a chair?) or something and there was a problem with his knee /leg . I really didn't think he would risk the match.

But the semi with Djok ended up being one of the best matches ever.

Delpo always ends up in the best best matches Grin

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 07/08/2018 21:12

Raahh yes Delpo did fall over a chair or something like that. So because he was injured he was trying to end the points quickly with all these crazy shots that Ferrer somehow kept chasing down. And yes then of course Delpo had that amazing (now second longest ever!) semi against Djokovic.

PrivateParkin · 07/08/2018 21:13

What is Pouille wearing in this match?! He looks like something from a 1980s cover of Smash Hits Grin
