Azarenka's been given a Wild Card for the Canada Masters so fingers crossed for the US Open.

I’m not the most technical person but we have an amazon fire stick so that we can watch Netflix etc on our tv. I think this is also how you can watch amazon prime but not tried it out yet.

We’ve had the firestick for a few years now so there might be something more advance out now.

I watched the Roger/Rafa documentary last night - it was so good. They were both very humble and surprisingly vulnerable when they were being interviewed. It was also nice to see Rafa age 12 and 16. He still has some of the same mannerisms as he had when he was 12.

I had heard about Roger having tantrums when he was younger but was surprised at the level of racquet smashing. At least he’s grown out of it unlike some players ....

PrivateParkin · 22/07/2018 11:55

Welcome back Fizzy - hope you enjoyed the rest of your hols.

I've just been googling fire sticks - I hate thinking about anything like that but it does look good. We have dipped in and out of Prime, and usually just connect the laptop to the TV with an old school hdmi cable when we want to watch. However the fire stick sounds much better and less faff.

The documentary was good wasn't it - tennis rivalries are fascinating. I liked that they had Chris Evert on talking about her and Martina, McEnroe/Borg etc.

One good news about Vika - fingers crossed for the US Open.

Fizzywinegum · 22/07/2018 14:54

Thanks Private - yes we had a good time - now back to reality and laundry!

I thought the documentary was really interesting - the interviews with Chris evert, Martina, McEnroe and Borg were great. I think you sometimes forget that they are real people even though they seem superhuman on court. Was nice to hear more than the blandish post match interviews.

From what I remember the firestick was relatively easy to install - can’t remember too much swearing from DH anyway Grin

ferrier · 22/07/2018 14:58

I thought everyone knew that Roger was a hothead in his youth. He's very open about it and comes across as quite embarrassed to be honest. He also goes hiking etc so I can well imagine he'd go to his local Tesco(!) if it's the kind of place where he won't get mobbed. I'm sure he'd want to lead as normal a life as possible.

I'm definitely following Bastad. Just a shame it doesn't seem to be anywhere on TV. Fognini vs Gasquet in the final. Now that's a match for the tennis purists! I do hope it gets put up on YouTube. And Fabio has just won Grin
Now he gets a bit of a break before playing the doubles final with Bolelli!

Raahh · 22/07/2018 15:12

Fizzy dh has just sorted out Amazon prime onto the tv. I'm not asking questions,Grin, but at least it's there.

Just got back from the hospital. Granny a bit confused today. Still in hdu, as no beds to send her to a ward. But she thinks she has been moved, due to the drugs she has been on. It's going to be a long week!

Re. the Pointless question- was it Henin-Hardenne. She won the French a few times.

Interestingly Wimbledon this year was won by the best returner. That aspect of the game really has improved over the last 20 years. Doesn't stop the big servers dominating most of the tournament.

Really looking forward to the US swing. I'm a night owl, I love NY, and it's the best surface to balance out serve and baseline. Now if only we could bring back wooden (or similar) rackets everything would be great. There's a video floating around somewhere of current tennis players trying out wooden rackets. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet but it will be interesting to see how they get on.

PrivateParkin · 22/07/2018 15:39

ferrier correct about JHH!

Djokovic is a great returner of course, but his serve is pretty good too - wouldn't all him a big server at all, but v reliable, placement etc.

Sounds good about the fire stick Raahh! Am definitely going to look into it. Hope your gran gets on ok this week Flowers

PrivateParkin · 22/07/2018 15:42

PS Fognini is having a good season isn't he - he's 11th in the race for the world tour finals!

Raahh · 22/07/2018 15:46

Private thank you. Hopefully she will really be moved later today.
I need to sort my head out- I'm very confused - now 2 of mine have finished school, I'm sat here merrily forgetting that dd2 still has another week.

And I've no idea where half her uniform is, as she wore p.e kit all last week, for a sports week.Grin

That's late to break up Raahh

Raahh · 22/07/2018 16:24

Private it's pretty normal for the primaries around here- they get 5 weeks off (2 weeks at Whit). The secondaries finished last week, and get 6 weeks.

Will be September before I know it Grin

PrivateParkin · 22/07/2018 16:27

Ah I see - yes, it flies by either way. We're off on hols next weekend but I'm seriously lacking energy/motivation to do much before then! Argh!

ferrier · 23/07/2018 05:07

Djokovic is a great server, as is Federer but I wouldn't call either of them 'big' servers. The big servers are usually very tall and regularly hammer it down at 130mph+.
Djokovic and Federer are good servers because of placement and variety. And coming up with a bit extra when it matters.

PrivateParkin · 23/07/2018 19:10

Apparently Federer is out of the Toronto Masters... Not sure why Confused

PrivateParkin · 23/07/2018 19:36

And... Jo Wilfried Tsonga got married, wearing a lovely powder blue suit and bow tie!

All this news is from Twitter btw Grin

Raahh · 23/07/2018 20:26

Private Jo Willy looks very happy. He has a beautiful family.

PrivateParkin · 23/07/2018 20:39

He really does Raahh. I hope we see him on a tennis court again soon.

Speaking of people being off-court, did you see that Berdych will miss the American hardcourt season with the same back injury he's had for a while? I can't remember if it's already been mentioned on here or not!

Raahh · 23/07/2018 20:53

I wonder how long it will be before Berdych calls it a day. It felt like the writing was on the wall, when he said he wasn't doing Davis cup anymore.

Mind you, it's hardly surprising that some of the top players don't want to risk Davis Cup, given the schedule.

Rubbish evening here, Ds has had his bike stolen. Buggering bollocks.

I'd like one nice, uncomplicated day. Just one Grin.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 23/07/2018 21:12

Oh no, how annoying about the bike!! Utter sods, whoever did it Angry

Re Berdych, yes that's what I was thinking too - an ongoing back injury isn't easy to recover from I'm sure. How old is he - about 32-3?? (I could Google but... meh!) I feel for him though, I hope he doesn't have to end his career over it - that would be rubbish.

PrivateParkin · 23/07/2018 21:13

Ok I googled him and he's 32. And ranked 59. Hmm.

Raahh · 23/07/2018 21:20

Private I'm really annoyed, it's just another thing to add to the growing list of rubbish Grin.

Berdych is getting on a bit, and bar the odd result, has slipped a fair bit - he's a player I tend to forget about Grin.

Sadly, Ferrer lost the other day- and I remember thinking it is ages since I watched him play.

I do hope Tsonga is back playing soon though- I do like watching him.

OP posts:
ferrier · 24/07/2018 04:49

Roger's statement just cites scheduling.
He's another that suffered with back issues for quite a while. I'd imagine it's quite common with the twisting it goes through in the service action.

PrivateParkin · 24/07/2018 09:15

Yes, didn't he say something like it was about his "longevity" on tour? Fair enough. He is almost 37 after all. still younger than me though

JaneJeffer · 24/07/2018 14:58

I've just realised Hamburg is on Sky Sports Arena. I feel like an addict who's just got a fix.
