Yes correct!! I was just about to post "when I say recent, I mean this century" Grin

Grin

I keep getting an ad on FB for the US open , going on about how Serena is going to make another amazing run there.

It's making me cross- especially as she isn't even the defending champion.

And there will be no clothing restrictions. She might turn up dressed as Wonder woman.

Hope your Gran is ok Raahh. It must be an anxious time Flowers

Also - "reward trips"? What fresh hell is this?! Grin

Raahh · 18/07/2018 14:47

private reward trips are something i discovered when we started secondary. If they have the right attendance/ merits / other stuff they can choose from a list of trips ( that we have to pay for) as a reward. Ds only ever qualified in year 7- the year there was the accident at Alton towers, so he decided to cancel, and then , randomly ( because he's had so many issues we aren't expecting it) he was told he could go thus year. There are different things- some are cheaper, and school based, most of the school go to Alton Towers or Blackpool.

Along with dozens of other schools, all on the same day.

Those that aren't allowed to go, have to do work in school.
Hmm

it never happened in my day!

Raahh · 18/07/2018 14:48

*we? I mean ds ( he's just finishing year 10, this would have been his last opportunity to go)

and thank you. My gran sounded quite chirpy. She was moaning about Andrew Castle.Grin

The rewards thing sounds a bit unfair Raahh.

Glad to hear your Gran seemed ok - there's always time for commenting on AC! I've missed his dulcet tones this week Grin

PrivateParkin · 19/07/2018 10:34

So Delpo scrubs up quite nicely Grin

Hope he doesn't trip over his laces.

PrivateParkin · 19/07/2018 10:44

Grin Jane Grin
Maybe tied laces would ruin the look?!?

Raahh · 19/07/2018 10:44

Ooh, Private very nice picture. GrinGrin

I've been half following Bastad/ Umag etc online this week- but it's not the same now I've got used to watching again.

I have to go to dd2's Sport's day later. They have changed the date twice. The weather has gone back to sunny again, but it's not at hot as it it has been, which is good.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 19/07/2018 10:45

But yes - you'd think he'd be a bit more cautious what with his history of injuries!

Raahh · 19/07/2018 10:48
Grin

I wasn't looking at the laces Grin

But yes, that would be dangerous. And he's very far from the ground if he trips Grin.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 19/07/2018 13:24

I've been half-heartedly following results as well Raahh but it's just not the same as a two week Slam is it?!

I see Rafa is in Ibiza ATM. And flew home from Wimbledon economy class! He didn't make much attempt to disguise himself - he was basically wearing a tennis kit, from the picture I saw.

Hope sports day goes well Smile

ladymelbourne1926 · 19/07/2018 17:25

Definitely not the same private we are missing the sport here too.
That pic of Delpo is fab Grin
How did sports day go raahh ?

JaneJeffer · 19/07/2018 17:36

I'm missing the craic on here as well as the tennis. I had a fairly good run of tennis viewing from the clay to the grass but won't get to see the hard courts now so I'm feeling bereft.

Raahh · 19/07/2018 17:45

Sports day was hot. Dd2 was not really into it at all.
Grin
dd1 has enjoyed her trip to Blackpool, and seemed to go on a lot more rides than I expected she would.

My gran is still waiting for surgery. No bed in I.t.u, which due to her age, she will need regardless of how the surgery goes. She's been there since 7am. which is a bit rubbish.

I've spent the day going backwards and forwards, and am a bit tired.

Rahh - Sending you love - your life sounds a bit hectic atm.

Love the photo of Delpo - but please remember that he is MINE - all mine!!

Am also missing the craic - this is just such a lovely thread.

Am also missing Delpo, Rafa & Shagavalov on my TV !!

Raahh · 19/07/2018 20:27

Oh, Magi thank you. It is a bit. Grin

I was talking to a friend at school and decided that hibernating would be nice. Even if it is July Grin.

Shagovalov had a good year last year, at the Roger's cup- he beat Rafa - be interesting to see how he gets in this year.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 19/07/2018 22:04

Ah that's tough on your Gran Raahh - hopefully it will all be sorted out soon. I feel a bit like hibernating myself - somewhere with loads of Wimbledon highlights on a constant loop!

It's annoying about the US Open - not only being on Amazon now, but also the pesky time difference! I had a lot of late nights last year watching it. Which was ok but a bit tricky when you have to try and function the next day!

I see Azarenka will need a wild card to play. I hope they will give one, I think it's so awful what's happened to her. She's one of my favourites on the women's side (despite the owl-like hooting on each shot!). It still seems a long way off though! Sigh.

PrivateParkin · 19/07/2018 22:05

PS Shagavalov makes me laugh every time Grin

Fizzywinegum · 20/07/2018 09:53

What is Rafa doing in Ibiza when I’m in Mallorca! Grin - can’t imagine Roger flying economy (or doing his own shopping at Tesco!)

We fly back tomorrow - DH did offer to drive me to the Rafa museum today but I don’t think I’ll bother. According to the guidebook Manacor has no real reasons to visit (apart from being where Rafa lives!)

Raahh I hope that your Gran gets sorted out soon at the hospital - hopefully all will be well Flowers

Hope that the school holidays are ok for everyone - DS2 did his GCSEs this year so he finished a while ago and DS1 is at uni (both are on holiday with us - there’s no escape!)

Liking the Delpo pic - he’s got such a nice face. Looking forward to us open - usually only watch last few days due to time difference - for some reason find it very confusing and last year missed some of Rafa’s matches.

Shagavalov also makes me Grin

Raahh · 20/07/2018 10:10

Flowers everyone- still waiting to hear what is happening with my gran. She's very annoyed today. It's really stressing my mum out too.

Utterly pointless half day for dd1- 2 hour assembly, then an hour with their (useless) form teacher. And no buses. So I have to pick her up at 12.

And then it is dd2's school summer fair.

I wish I was in Ibiza. Or anywhere. Grin

I hope Azarenka gets a wild card- all the fuss over 'super mother' Serena- it would be make the powers that be look crap if they didn't let her play after the year she has had- after all, her career has been affected due to being a mother too- and if they are going to set a precedent and bend rules for one...

OP posts:
Raahh · 20/07/2018 10:16

I'm cross about the US open- I do have Amazon prime- but I can't figure it out Grin.

It's not my favourite slam. The spectators annoy me, and the ludicrous scheduling. it's not exactly done with the players in mind, just, ironically, the tv broadcasters.

OP posts:
OneInAMillionYou · 21/07/2018 00:19

Raah I'm thinking of getting Amazon Prime for the US Open, so when you've figured it out, can you tell me? 😀👍🏻

Will I be able to use it on my tv or do I have to use a laptop or tablet, which frankly I will be less keen on.

We only have Sky Sports for the tennis but it seems now that only multiple subscriptions to different platforms will enable us to see everything. So annoying!
