Hi all

Here is the next thread for those who are watching The Handmaid's Tale Season 2 on Channel 4. Please don't put any spoilers on this - the other thread (for those in other countries who are watching ahead of the UK) is:

Thanks CruCru!

I remember Aunt Lydia talking about the difference between freedom to & freedom from. I found this interview with Ann Dowd really interesting (spoiler-free).

I am a bit scared to read that though, what if there are spoilers in the comments? (are there any?) I agree that Ann Dowd is an amazing actor.

Why oh why can't Channel 4 schedule the show closer to when it airs in the USA so we're not behind all the time? I think in Ireland they are far ahead as well. It's a pain having to constantly avoid spoilers and online discussion that might have non-UK posters.

Would it cost them more or something?

EmpressOfSpartacus · 27/06/2018 19:59

If there are any comments I managed not to notice them!

colouringinagain · 27/06/2018 20:00

Thanks! Love these threads Grin

It's annoying on twitter as you occasionally get US comments the same time as UK ones.

(Thanks for the new thread)

Hygge · 27/06/2018 20:08

Thanks for the new thread.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 27/06/2018 20:10

I need to give The Bridge a try obviously Smile

As a general point I think THT is lacking at the moment the bravery of something like GOT, in the sense that you feel kind of confident that :

Elisabeth Moss
Alexis Bledel
Madeleine Brewer
Yvonne Strahovski
Joseph Fiennes
Max Minghella
OT Fangbele
Ann Dowd
And
Samira Wiley

Are all SAFE in terms of their place on the show

Yes they all go through this torture, but to no apparent end and there’s no sense that though they are endangered they could die

Even the hanging scene, it was so early in the run that you knew it was just psychological warfare and Offred wouldn’t die. On GOT you know that if your character looks in danger, this might be it for them. Handmaids doesn’t have that - I think anyway

I’d like to see Serena or Fred go, just to mix shut up

kalapattar · 27/06/2018 20:24

I've been watching Resistance - a box set on Channel 4. Based on a true story, it's about a resistance group in Paris during the early days of the occupation. It's not about fighting - but more about the everyday life under the regime, the fear, collaboration, resistance and trying to lead a life knowing it could be ended at any moment - and the point where you don't care anymore what happens because the regime has made you hate them.

EvilTwins · 27/06/2018 20:33

Invisimamma · 27/06/2018 21:16

Just checking in, thanks for the new thread. I’ll miss a couple of weeks because of holiday and will need to avoid spoilers.

caoraich · 27/06/2018 21:45

Thanks, checking in!

Slightly off topic - are any of you other fans pregnant?
I'm due in October and have been finding this series really affecting. I loved the book and series 1 and objectively I think that series 2 isn't as good, but it's definitely playing on my mind a lot more as I just potter about my life and feel the LO moving around in there.
Particularly the scene where Serena creeps into June's room and touches her belly and the nursery scene in episode 6.

ReadytoTalk · 27/06/2018 22:16

I struggled with season 1 when i had a newborn baby. It was utterly harrowing. Im not finding this series quite as bad. The Janine/charlotte bits were the worst.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 27/06/2018 22:21

I was thinking about when June was in the Boston Globe

I know the novel is pre-computer but the internet is heavily credited with revolutions in the Middle East

I know that the Internet is probably down in Gilead but there could’ve been a secure server, a VPN, something to get a message out ? No?

Elphabaisnotwicked · 27/06/2018 22:25

Does anyone know how many more episodes we have this season please?

theredjellybean · 27/06/2018 22:27

I am enjoying it but beginning to wonder where the plot is going. The book ends ambiguously... And I feel this series now is veering towards sensationalism.
I hope they keep the plot tight and don't get too far fetched. Margaret atwood often says how nothing in the book had not already happened somewhere in the world.. The screen writers need to remember that.
For example where /how did ofglen2 get the bomb?
