at magi's request here is the first grass thread ( we will probably need more than one!).

Can't believe it time for Queen's again. Hope the weather holds out- bit gloomy in the north west.Grin

( can't link to other thread as on my phone).

See you all later- the only thing I'm not looking forward to is the likelihood it will be Mr Castle in the commentary box.Grin

Jason Issacs is so lovely! Sweet guy ‘ shout out to jason’

kazzaD66 · 21/06/2018 15:10

Just realised that Djokovic vs Dimitrov is on after this match, so AC obviously saving himself for that. I'll do the hoovering then cos Novak's ball bouncing irritates me and, obviously, AC just irritates full stop.

The80sweregreat · 21/06/2018 15:19

Is Djokovic playing at Wimbledon?
It’s on late this year. I was surprised as I thought it started on Monday!

kazzaD66 · 21/06/2018 15:45

Bugger it! Glad Kyle won the set but I really need to get the hoovering done before school pick up Confused
Wimbledon was moved back a week a while back to give the players an extra week between the French and Wimbledon.

Raahh · 21/06/2018 15:52

80s As far as I know, Djok is playing Wimbledon, he is still listed as playing at least. He still has time to make up his mind fully, I suppose.

They changed the dates of it a couple of years ago now, to give a week extra between Wimbledon and the French. It did used to start next week- ish. My sister's birthday (30th) was always somewhere near the middle.

x -post Grin

I've just got back from the school run. DD2 doesn't feel like going to Rainbows, which suits me, as I really don't want to have to go out again.

Come on Kyle, break back!

Raahh and kazza / thank you.
I’ve lookrd it up and men’s final and World Cup Final all same day!

Raahh · 21/06/2018 16:00

I did think the world cup would clash- but presumably the football final will be on in the evening- and dh knows better than to disturb me during Wimbledon.

Or any tennis really Grin.

I've managed to avoid all World cup football so far. Grin

I'm pleased to see (looking over at the Halle scores) that Paire has taken the second set against Federer, and it's gone to 3 sets.

Grin Castle has just mentioned the padded seats again.

He must be getting bored.

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 21/06/2018 17:26

I don’t mind football (World Cup only) when it’s decent countries playing, but I’m not keen on it generally and get a bit bored - I don’t know many of the England squad any more.

84CharingCrossRoad · 21/06/2018 17:27

Am pleased my bad boy won. Does anyone know if Tsonga is playing Wimbledon? He's my other favourite!!

Raahh · 21/06/2018 17:30

84, I don't think Tsonga is playing Wimbledon, no. He's currently still recovering from the knee injury that caused him to withdraw from the French, I think.

Fizzywinegum · 21/06/2018 17:31

He needs to think about comfort in his advanced years Raahh Grin

Not seen any tennis today but kept an eye on the scores - was Krygios any less annoying today?

I also noticed that he carries his towel round in his mouth Kazza -most unhygienic! I’m sure I heard that ball boys/girls wouldn’t be allowed to give towels to players from next year but not sure if I dreamt it?

Does anyone listen to mayo & kermode film programme on R5? They always say hello to Jason isaacs - he is supposed to be a top bloke.

Raahh · 21/06/2018 17:31

I don't think he's actually played since quite early in the year, come to think of it.

My brother went to school with Gareth Southgate and played in the local football team with him, but that's about all I know, apart from Harry Kane. When I wandered in to the living room at the end of the match the other night, the England team looked like they were all 15 years old! Or is that just me now, when teachers, policemen and just about everyone else looks like they are just out of school?Confused

bookbook · 21/06/2018 17:35

Hello - Wimbledon is nigh, so joining in to keep abreast . I'll be reading with interest, don't seem to get much time to actually watch anymore

Raahh · 21/06/2018 17:35

I didn't see too much of the Kyrgios match, but I've seen the towel thing before, he chews the top of his shirt a lot too. Eww.
I did notice he was stretching his leg at one point and someone mentioned his hip. But he seemed to be actually 'playing' , and not just pissing about.

Castle is obviously planning on being a bearded old bloke, with the need for a padded bath chair in his dotage.

So he's taking notesGrin

Grigor is having a bad day.

Hi all, I've not seen any tennis today because of work, but I've just been catching up on all your chat Smile

I think that's right about the towels Fizzy - finally! Then the ball boys/girls can do their jobs instead of handling rank towels! Yuck. Apparently they are going to have towel hooks at the back of the court. I hope they're going to use those IKEA ones that sort of grab the towel (haven't described that very well) otherwise there'll be all sorts of faffing around with towels falling on the ground etc. Something for AC to muse on, no doubt!

84CharingCrossRoad · 21/06/2018 17:40

I like him because he has a cool name.
Also will share this with you!!! wink grin

84CharingCrossRoad · 21/06/2018 17:41

WinkGrin

Raahh · 21/06/2018 17:42

Private the towel thing could end up up being a nightmare, there will be all sorts of angst about time between points etc Grin.

There will be people tripping up over themselves and slipping on the towels on the court. There will be carnage. Grin

And what if the players decide to bring their own? Will they need name tags? Like at nursery school? It will be like a mad scramble at the end of each gameGrin.

I think they should all just wear towelling shirts Grin

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 21/06/2018 17:43

Thanks private glad it wasn’t just me! The towel hooks sound like a recipe for disaster - Rafa will need to have his lined up in a certain way Grin

I really don’t like Djokovic - my DH thinks I’m being harsh but the thing he does to the crowd at the end of his matches really winds me up.

kazzaD66 · 21/06/2018 17:43

Fizzy I thought I read somewhere a while ago that they were thinking about ball boys and girls not having to continually handle the sweaty towels (and saliva strewn towels!) . Not sure if this was on a generally yukky unhygienic point or whether it's so they can concentrate on doing the job they are there for - the balls! - so as to try to keep the game moving in line with the focus on the time keeping between points.
