at magi's request here is the first grass thread ( we will probably need more than one!).

Can't believe it time for Queen's again. Hope the weather holds out- bit gloomy in the north west.Grin

( can't link to other thread as on my phone).

See you all later- the only thing I'm not looking forward to is the likelihood it will be Mr Castle in the commentary box.Grin

There were definitely technical issues on the court Monfils played on- dodgy speed gun, broken mic Grin

Poor Gasquet.

Come on Stan, you can do it!

ladymelbourne1926 · 02/07/2018 18:54

I remember the dodgy ponytail but even that always looked depressingly neat Wink
If Stan can just break here.....

Raahh · 02/07/2018 18:55

Ooh- match point! Come on Stan!

Yaas!!

ladymelbourne1926 · 02/07/2018 18:58

Yay!

Raahh · 02/07/2018 19:01

Good day for Stan - bet he didn't that would happen two weeks ago.

Raahh · 02/07/2018 19:03

I like the aerial shots of the people milling around like ants.

I wonder how Ones day at the tournament has been?

Right I must apologise to Richard Gasquet as I obviously jinxed him with my over-optimistic predictions! I had better not make any more for players I actually like!

Great win for Stan - Dimitrov looked so edgy throughout that match.

Raahh · 02/07/2018 19:18

Private Grin

He looked very elegant, though. As usual.

Delighted that Fed is through so comfortably. I hate the fact that he seems to be such a heavy favourite. I really don't see it that way as he hasn't anywhere near hit the kind of form he was in in 2017. So will be keeping my fingers crossed all the way through.

Equally delighted that Stan got such a big win. Shame it was at the expensive of Grigor though I really don't like Grigor's new short back and sides. At least Stan still has his tously bits even after a tidy up!

Not surprised at all that Cilic was on no.2. He's not in the 'always on Centre or no.1' echelons yet and Cilic vs someone nobody's heard of is not the draw that Raonic against a Brit is.

Sad for Gasquet 😕

Pleased for Katie Swann and Donna Vekic. I also like Coco despite her manner sometimes. At least she puts her heart and soul into it. Looks like she's going out though.

Come on Cam!

ferrier · 02/07/2018 19:22

Ps. Loved the lustrous (not greasy Hmm ) ponytail.

Raahh · 02/07/2018 19:40

Was watching the Radwanska match, which seems to have flipped around now.

I just showed DD1 the Cilic flossing video. She rolled her eyes in an 'adults are just embarrassing' kind of way. Grin.

She agreed he is too tall to floss.

Maybe they can get the the 'diminutive' Schwartzman to try next? Grin.

Raahh · 02/07/2018 19:52

And it's one set all.
Will be time for 'Today at Wimbledon' soon.Grin

(I'm a bit numb from all my watching todayGrin- but I know I won't be able to watch as much tomorrow, so making the most of it!).

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 02/07/2018 20:26

Haha Raahh - I love that your DD finds Cilic old enough to be embarrassing!! He's such a youngster!

Raahh · 02/07/2018 20:34

private I know! I'm just about old enough to be his mother!

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 02/07/2018 20:39

Oh Raahh don't Grin Same here. I'm in total denial about how young they all are!! In my mind, I'm the same age as them!

Raahh · 02/07/2018 20:43

I have been out with the dog, come back half an hour later, and it looks like Radwanska could be on her way out.

Raahh · 02/07/2018 20:45

What gets me ,Private is on Thursday it is 30 YEARS since Edberg won in 88.

30 years!

Cilic wasn't even born at that point!

OP posts:
Raahh · 02/07/2018 20:47

(Marin was born on the 28th September that year)

OP posts:
Raahh · 02/07/2018 20:59

I feel very sorry for Ruse- she had her chances there, definitely. She must be gutted.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 02/07/2018 21:27

It's unbelievable how time flies! And now I'm officially ancient for saying that phrase!

Ah what a shame for Ruse - I do like Radwanska but it must be devastating to get so close! Tennis has a very cruel scoring system!!

Looking forward to tomorrow now!

PunkrockerGirl59 · 02/07/2018 21:36

Probably been said before, but am I the only one that finds John Lloyd and his style of commentary really irritating? He was an average tennis player in his day and somehow landed the commentary job, But dear God, his nasal delivery and the 'advice' he gives to the top players is quite frankly embarrassing. Confused

ferrier · 02/07/2018 21:45

I think he's OK. At least he offers some kind of analysis. There's one commentator whose name I haven't found out (he's usually on Eurosport) who says almost nothing more than the score or 'It's another break point for x'.
