Thought I'd start a new one as we're not far off and there'll be much to talk about this week, I I fear.

OP posts:
ajandjjmum · 09/05/2018 09:29

I noticed that! Wasn't she Mrs. Tanner at one point though? I love this thread - I think I know Corrie but someone always remembers the smallest detail.

Monday night's episodes have stayed with me - pathetic as it's a story, but I feel genuinely sad.

Optimist1 · 09/05/2018 09:37

She was married to Dennis (Tanner), wasn't she?

ChocolateDoll · 09/05/2018 09:38

Yes, she was Mrs Tanner when she married that Dennis guy.

Not sure, but maybe she never changed her name back when he left?

Clawdy · 09/05/2018 09:39

Yes, think she married Dennis when he returned a few years ago.

woolythoughts · 09/05/2018 09:43

I didnt realise THAT DEnnis was the DEnnis Tanner of old - I've just spent too much idle time on wikipedia.

You learn something new every day!

The scene with Jenny grieving over her son and confiding in Johnny, who "could only imagine" the pain of losing a child, now also now appears to be part of the build-up. I believe it was known as "dramatic irony" in my English O-level days!

Housewife2010 · 09/05/2018 11:42

I can't feel too sorry for Eva. Her revenge on Aidan was vitriolic and far too extreme. He cheated on her which was unforgivable, but she schemed to completely ruin and embarrass him. Due to her, his family's business was ruined and most of the women on the street ended up unemployed. Without her revenge, Aidan would not be in this situation.

ChevalierTialys · 09/05/2018 13:14

Fair point about Eva.

Professor Green wrote a besutiful song on the subject of depression and male suicide:

Clawdy · 09/05/2018 13:59

Yes, I agree I will never feel particularly sorry for Eva. She took revenge in the most extreme way ever, and is paying for it now.

blueskypink · 09/05/2018 16:11

I believe it was known as "dramatic irony" in my English O-level days!

In your (and my) O'level days it wouldn't have been dramatic irony. No spoilers back then so the significance of the remark would have been lost on the audience!

Housewife2010 · 09/05/2018 16:54

There were spoilers back then. I remember watching Coronation St when Renee Roberts was killed. We knew about it beforehand.

bringbacksideburns · 09/05/2018 16:54

Watched it again. I definitely think he knew about the surrogate baby as he says to Toyah " Your secret's safe " but maybe he thought it was Adam's?
Just as upsetting watching it a second time.

Akire · 09/05/2018 17:00

I still any tell he has killed homself in fact I’m off this thread as sick as spoilers! We saw him crying on sofa no way that was hinting at suicide. When David was upset few weeks ago he nearly cut his wrist, now IF he had done that it would been hinting. Guess have watch today go find out properly. Good luck with thread.

flopsyrabbit1 · 09/05/2018 18:10

im buying a large bar of chocolate to eat why watching and no doubt blubbing

Housewife2010 · 09/05/2018 18:14

I have to take my son to cubs partway through which may kill the moment.

nottwins · 09/05/2018 18:27

Looks like I'm one of those people who lives under a rock but I'd genuinely managed to avoid any spoilers about the Aiden storyline whatsoever - and still hadn't realised what was going on by the end of the last episode.

Not sure whether I feel disappointed in there being a whopper spoiler in the 'no spoiler' thread, or stupid for not having worked it out...

flopsyrabbit1 · 09/05/2018 18:27

oh noooooooooo, but maybe you we welcome the distractionSmile

flopsyrabbit1 · 09/05/2018 18:28

ffs,you will welcome

ChocolateDoll · 09/05/2018 18:59

I’m also ‘under a rock’, and am massively pissed off with this so called, no spoilers thread.

I’m usually a lurker, and really enjoy everybody’s chat Smile.

I do wonder though if on this occasion, the episodes were actually written with the intention that the audience knew what was going to happen.

Now that the cat is out of the bag for me anyway, and having read all this thread, it seems there is a lot of small, but significant little things going on, which would pass you by completely if you didn’t know the story.

The portrayal of how ‘lost’Aiden was, without anyone around him noticing, and all the small signs that his family missed are probably an important message to the audience. But if you watch it without knowing, then you also miss all the signs, just like his loved ones (and me, as I watched it without having a clue - and still wouldn’t know if it wasn’t for this thread!)

I hate spoilers of any type, but I just wonder if that’s how the writers intended it for this one.

blinkineckmum · 09/05/2018 18:59

I'm also surprised the title says 'no spoilers' but the whole thread is about a story that hasn't happened yet. I had no idea.

Johnnie’s sobbing is heartbreaking.

Liza27 · 09/05/2018 19:41

This is so heartbreaking to watch. They're all doing really well.

CaptainHammer · 09/05/2018 19:41

Just about to say the same Zibbidoo :(

TopBitchoftheWitches · 09/05/2018 19:43

This is close to home and I am not letting my dd's watch as too recent and they were more closer to the person who died than I was but they are doing this so well. Johnny's sobbing and Carla's shock.
