Thought I'd start a new one as we're not far off and there'll be much to talk about this week, I I fear.

OP posts:
Littlebunnyboy130 · 13/05/2018 07:25

@randomuntrainedcuntowner it was very hard watching it but not something I regret watching. I sobbed and sobbed and it hurt but I guess it's an important part of the grieving process and recognising I carry that hurt and I need to acknowledge it's a very hard thing to have gone through. I think you focus so much on the loss of the person and that distracts you from looking at the trauma YOU have gone through too. Hope you are ok.

FlowerOfTheValley · 13/05/2018 08:32

To those of you who've lost loved ones in this way I'm so very sorry for your loss.

Zibbidoo so very pleased to hear you're in a better place now. Johnny was on the phone to Tim not a Jamie. Subtitles had it wrong, I watch it with them and couldn't work out who Jamie was too and when Streetcars was mentioned later in the phonecall I rewound and it was Tim.

FlowerOfTheValley · 13/05/2018 08:49

I think the last few episodes have been very moving and well acted. I'm another one who was in tears when Aidan was saying goodbye to an oblivious Eva. They have both been superb as has Johnny.

I thought it was better Johnny discovering Aidan out of sight. The anguished cry you heard when he found him was so heartfelt and conveyed his pain and shock.

I think the story as had more effect by Aidan ending it now than if he had a while back when he had fallen out with his family, lost Eva and the factory and was sleeping rough. I think people would have seen reasons then for why he did. Now, having reconciled with his family, the chance to have got back with Eva and their baby and having the factory back on track it is so much more poignant.

On paper he had a great life there for him but his despair and state of mind were such that he still felt the way he did it.

Aidan had clearly been troubled for a while and I was intrigued by the letter he had posted to his dad which he retrieved. Clearly now a suicide note which I am assuming will be found by his family at some point. I was shocked and disappointed when I found out Aidan was going to commit suicide. Having now watched it and seen the reaction I think the producers have done a good thing. Seeing a man cheerful to those around him and with a lot going for him do this is sadly not unusual and I hope the story does some good in real life.

FlowerOfTheValley · 13/05/2018 08:52

The David storyline was also very well done. Quite realistic David feeling how Aidan did and the effect on him of hearing about Aidan making him blurt it out to Shona. So pleased he has finally told her. Loved Shona's exchange with Josh "rapist"

kikashi · 13/05/2018 09:47

I suppose Vinnie's mum has been brought in for light relief but it's a bit bonkers. You can't just take an old person from their care home (surely?) when you have no familial or legal link to them. Also, we still don't know where Phelan moved Eileen to when she was missing at the care home when Vinnie visited (she was moved later due to bills not being paid).

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 13/05/2018 11:10

Thank you!! I was baffled. Grin

eddiemairswife · 13/05/2018 11:44

Presumably Vinnie's mum was in a care home because she needed care. How is Daniel going to provide that?

kikashi · 13/05/2018 12:46

Where is she sleeping ? Are Sinead and Daniel going to sleep on the sofa?

IHaveBrilloHair · 13/05/2018 15:44

Yes, the subtitles were wrong, I was baffled too, but he was on the phone to Tim and mentioned, (according to subtitles), Jamie having put two lasagnes in the oven.
Later in the episode Jenny took two lasagnes out of the oven, so Jamie was Jenny.
I hope that makes sense !

Boswellox · 13/05/2018 20:08

Personally I thought they unnecessarily rushed the suicide storyline of Aiden and thereby ruined its potentially enlightening effect.

blueskypink · 13/05/2018 20:58

But it's been coming for ages Boswell. There was clearly something up with him when he donated his kidney, and then there's what was probably a suicide letter which he intercepted when he was first asked to consider donating. Not that rushed...

IHaveBrilloHair · 13/05/2018 21:06

I thought the whole point was to show that it can come out of the blue for family and friends.
It's been the main focus all week so not sure how it's rushed.
obviously we font yet know how it'll be dealt with from now

SumAndSubstance · 13/05/2018 21:17

I agree that the build up was actually done well. It feels like ages that we've been asking "What's up with Aidan?" on these threads. Agree as well that those signs should have been very subtle as too often it is the case that someone's loved ones don't notice.

hope80 · 13/05/2018 22:38

Littlebunnyboy130 and randomuntrainedcuntowner and others, I'm so sorry for your loss. My cousin died last year by suicide, it's been utterly devastating. I'm not keen the term "committed" suicide as it harks back to a time when it was considered a crime, rather than a mental illness.

Littlebunnyboy130 you mentioned that you haven't spoken to anyone in RL, have you tried SOBs group? You can contact them via phone, email, monthly meet-ups and they have a facebook page too. Has been helpful to us, it's run be people who are bereaved by suicide.

Glad Corrie has got this conversation going...sadly 12% of those bereaved by suicide go onto attempt, so support for them is crucial.

millimat · 14/05/2018 07:10

Hope that statistic is frightening.

Frillyfarmer · 14/05/2018 19:44

Is Rosie Webster preggo?!

Littlebunnyboy130 · 14/05/2018 19:51

@hope80 I haven't heard of SOB I will definitely check them out. Thanks.

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/05/2018 19:52

Rosie is pregnant in real life.

Frillyfarmer · 14/05/2018 19:58

Ah. So they’re not good at dressing actresses who are meant to be pregnant on the cobbles or in real life 😂

blueskypink · 14/05/2018 20:09

Well really, what sort of response did Sophie expect from Johnny? Confused

cloudyweewee · 14/05/2018 20:12

At least Johnny remembered he has MS. I feel quite sorry for Jenny as he is treating her in such a brutal way. Understandable, I suppose.

Optimist1 · 14/05/2018 20:17

Sophie was ridiculous to tell Johnny about that text message. It's not as though she was aware of his state of mind, or even that the text was obviously asking for support.

Frillyfarmer · 14/05/2018 20:23

I know you would think either her mum or her sister would tell her how much of a non event the text was and to not burden Johnny with it. Outrageous behaviour. Want to know whether Michelle hands will over...
