I thought there was an implication that Cassie's biological dad could also be Alan's biological father - he's the right age, was seen getting friendly with Alan's mum at the beach party and then Alan's mum seems to be trying to keep Cassie and Alan apart. But then that would mean Cassie's dad's DNA was on Lizzy's body and would implicate him in the murder.

But who is Molly's father?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/03/2018 10:38

I definitely need to watch it again from the beginning of this series, and concentrate. The more I read here, the more baffled I become!

ReelingLush18 · 08/03/2018 10:43

Definitely seemed to me that Cassie's dad could be involved, hence his general shiftiness when talking with Perez (after they'd had a family meal together)? Hope he's not a murderer though; I like him as a character, and the dynamic that he and Perez have together.

eloisesparkle · 08/03/2018 10:43

SirSidney
I was thinking the same

ReelingLush18 · 08/03/2018 10:45

I almost wondered if Sandy was Molly's father the way he was behaving...

Clawdy · 08/03/2018 10:58

Pretty certain Cass's dad won't turn out to a really bad guy - he features in all the Shetland books as a bit of a shallow, flawed but charming man, so not sure Ann Cleeves would be happy with that, as presumably she is still writing the books!

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 08/03/2018 11:20

Even if Cassie's dad is also Alan's dad, his DNA on Lizzy doesn't mean he definitely murdered her though. Do we know what form the DNA was found in (saliva, hair, semen)?

ktel1 · 08/03/2018 17:34

I think Kate is acting very oddly in respect to Malone, very hot and cold

Perhaps she killed Lizzie- or perhaps she is Lizzie and it was Kate who was killed- I believe they were identical twins.

I've started to invent some pretty way out theories now.

SpringHen · 08/03/2018 20:33

Its not Cassies dad.
I wont allow it.
I love his dynamic with Perez.

BossWitch · 08/03/2018 20:56

Me too. Best bit of this series was the two of them waiting to collect Cassie from the airport,

Sandy: Do you think she's pregnant?

Perez, with horrified face: Well I do now!

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 09/03/2018 15:08

I think Sandy is a good character I hope this isn't him bring written out. The actor has a big part on Catastophy could this be the issue?

ReelingLush18 · 09/03/2018 15:16

Isn't Sandy the policeman rather than Cassie's 'other dad'? Getting confused Hmm.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 09/03/2018 16:34

Yes slip of the tongue Sandy is the policeman.

Melamin · 09/03/2018 16:38

Sandy is the policeman. Cassie's dad is Duncan.

Kate has huge guilt about something.

I like the idea that Duncan is Allan's father - it is certainly in character. He won't have done the murder but he is forever getting mixed up in things for better or worse.

lilydaisyrose · 09/03/2018 16:49

Does anyone have any sneaky ways I can catch up on Shetland please? I've only watched this series and I am now desperate to watch more (why does Cassie have 2 Dads!?) but I am trying to avoid buying the DVDs. I have Sky, netflix and Amazon prime.

ReelingLush18 · 09/03/2018 17:36

The link to Cassie is the dead mum (Fran). I think Cassie is Duncan's biological daughter (with Fran) but Perez was latterly married to Fran so became Cassie's step-dad? (I may have got it totally the wrong way round though...)

If Duncan did turn out to be Allan's father it might explain why Cassie has an affinity with A.

Yes, Kate's behaviour is very odd. I feel sorry for Malone.

I like DH and MB so finding Shetland very easy on the eye Wink.

SpringHen · 09/03/2018 17:59

Duncan is Cassies biological dad. Perez is her step dad but also her "main" dad as Duncan was busy being a player in her former years and only became more involved since cassies mum died and since Perez moved them back to the Island.

Perez & Cassie used to live on the mainland. Part of moving back was the weird but good co-parenting dynamic he has with Duncan

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/03/2018 18:10

@lilydaisyrose - Shetland is available on Amazon Prime - the first series was pretty cheap, and the second series wasn’t too expensive.

eloisesparkle · 09/03/2018 18:32

If Alan is Duncan's son that's perhaps why Alan's mother sacked Cassie. To keep them apart.

Clawdy · 09/03/2018 18:32

In the Shetland books, Cassie is a little girl at primary school, but living with stepdad Jimmy. Not sure why they turned her into a teenager for the dramatisation.

Kikashi · 09/03/2018 18:43

I thought that eloise - although from Alan's comments it seems his mum has form for interfering in his relationships.

Was the hooded guy who jumped from the wharf window ( after perhaps killing Mati) the hoodie Norwegian from the festival? (can't be Lars then)

Melamin · 09/03/2018 19:43

I just googled Shetland series 1 and episode 1 and got a site with it on on the first page. It was really good. My computer hasn't died yet...............

HappydaysArehere · 10/03/2018 18:54

DH says they missed episode 3 when they replaced it with football. The following week continued with episode 4 so he turned to catch up to get episode 3. Anyone notice this?

CoolCarrie · 10/03/2018 19:21

Episode 3 was on at 9.00 on the Wednesday of that week, because of the football.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 10/03/2018 19:22

Episode 3 moved to the Wednesday of that week, Happydays.
